@WillyLoman thanks for chiming in with some memories of those days!
To me this part of the WTS history is very interesting, and I feel it still suffers from a Governing Body black out about the events that took place.
Let the light shine.
for me, it was when they kicked out ray franz and ed dunlap.. .
i knew about the reform movement they started through ed's brother - and stupidly believed it could work.. .
the clouds were truly parted and i could see it for what it was when they were ejected for nothing but trying to ask for biblical reform.. .

Here's the link to Cris and Norma Sanchez, and Ed Dunlap's experiences during the inquisitions at Bethel back in the late 1970's and early 1980's.

Supposedly, as the rumor went, at that time a whole Spanish speaking congregation partook of the emblems when Ray Franz gave the talk. This was never the case but the rumor wouldn't die.
Kuilian and Sanchez's were the ones under a lot of pressure to confess and turn more people in. You can listen to their experience online too. I'll post the link when I get a chance to find it again.
it seems many are attending without wanting to be there at all.. what suggestions can we offer?.
i was wondering how this might pan out:.
"my dear wife/husband, i have a question which i am waiting on jehovah for an answer for.
Start missing more and more meetings.
Tell them you're depressed if they inquire.
And don't say anything about doctrine or
about the truth about The Truth(tm). Just
slip, slip, slip into the future and fade from

branch letter.
dear kingdom publishers:.
Must be new light that makes them do a 180 on the idea that more publishers requires more buildings all over the world. The way they've been closing branches and merging congregations so they can sell off Kingdom Halls, clearly manifests that the Governing Body has gotten a flash of new light these latter days. Perhaps it's the glinting filthy lucre they've found out they can accumulate by cashing in properties that the rank and file paid for out of their meager living.
a 5 min.
talk will be given from the kingdom ministry about "donating" more to the world wide preaching work.
remember the woman who gave 2 coins of little value?
Very reminiscent of the Bible quote about things that keep crying out more, more, and never get enough.
That's the WTB&TS always asking for more and never getting satisfied with money and pricey realties, like true lovers of filthy lucre that they are.
why do the some bethelites love to talk about the black mamba?
the answer is simple... fear.. have you heard about the "black mamba"?
yes, the "black mamba" and no, not kobe bryant, but the most poisonous snake known to man.. there was a big roar of laughter from some in the audience.. .
Why do the some Bethelites love to talk about the Black Mamba? The answer is simple... Fear.
Have you heard about the "Black Mamba"? Yes, the "Black Mamba" and no, not Kobe Bryant, but the most poisonous snake known to man.
There was a big roar of laughter from some in the audience.
Then Bethel speaker went on to talk about the dangers of "Apostates" who are handmaidens of Satan...
and who are just like a "Black Mamba" snake, with their "forked black tongue of poison" dealing a rabid death to the unwary and those that get too close.
This Black Mamba snake is known for "striking repeatedly at its victim" which is like "Satan who doesn't give up and tries different ways to poison his victims"...
Black Mamba is even a drug that some young people use nowadays... and have suffered endangering their lives...

Another Patterson Bethel speaker didn't quite have all his notes in order. Made a mess of his "special Saturday talk" and fumbled the illustration.
Black Momma... urh... Black Momba... Memba... Mamba. The most poisonous snake in the whole world...
Which is not really black but sort of a dark chocolate brown...
Despite the lacking Kobe Bryant reference, this illustration ignited uproarious laughter, at which the speaker seemed perplexed.
This other speaker went on to highlight the dangers for those who venture out into the jungles of worldliness of this wicked system.
The dangers for those who are enticed, mesmerized and fall prey to this wickedly deprived world, full of violence, drugs and fornication.
Are "we" surprised that most people fall out of the "Truth" because of fornication?
Showing that at Bethel they do research on Wikipedia... the speaker went on to quote about the 'killing' of this snake by 'humans'.
Fear, and killings of black mambas: With the increasing encroaching of its territory by humans, the black mamba often finds easy prey. It will display fearsome tenacity and explosive aggression while hissing loudly and striking repeatedly. The black mamba is one of the world's most aggressive snakes, and has been known to unleash its fury even when it is unprovoked, making this snake one of the world's most feared predators. No other snake in is as loathed, and feared at the same time. For this reason, many black mambas are killed right where they are spotted by people. A group of hunters is usually required to kill it, as it is very fast and agile, striking in all directions while a third of its body is 3–4 feet (0.91–1.2 m) above the ground. They will use rocks, big knives, saws, or big pieces of wood to either chop the snake, crush it, or kill it in some fashion. The black mamba will sometimes bite one or two of the people before being killed itself. The deep fear of this snake stems not only from its reputation for aggression, speed, and venom toxicity, but from stories and legends that have been passed down from one generation to the next. The mere mention of its name is claimed to cause fear, anxiety, or panic attacks in some people.
Where did the illustration lead the minds of listeners?
Does it not beg the question: If poisonous Black Mamba snakes are to be feared and killed mercilessly, how about Apostates?
Is there a scheduled Bethelite coming to a congregation near you? Beware the Black Mamba!
what happened to this co, i hear he is at gilead, i would love to know what this good brother is up to.
.
He seems to be following in Ed Dunlap's footsteps.

thank you..
Having a second thread wouldn't hurt.
A third one for emphasis, too?
how would you react if someone quoted you a price of over half a million us dollar$ to put up a wall of greenery at the assembly hall in ajalvir, spain?.
jhk's blog quotes spanish ex-jw's forum member nizam saying that the spanish brothers are aghast with the plan to close down the assembly hall at ajalvir, torrejon, (near madrid), spain.
the renovation will replace an outside terrace with a wall of greenery.
Here's a translation of the last part of the letter posted by Nizam (the intrepid Spanish mole and spiritual super spy :-) I've bolded and underlined parts that I thought quite interesting:
"We are enclosing a form sheet you may print as many times as needed, then cut slips to hand out only to every head of house who is a publisher . ( The brothers must put their name on the sheet , with only the two amount figures. ) This survey will reveal whether the congregation may comply with the resolution and can pay for the operation and maintenance costs .
"The secretary will collect the slips of paper and add separately the amount that publishers can provide 1) per month and 2) each day of the assembly .
"Then send an email to the address [email protected] with the name of the congregation and the three figures: the amount that the congregation would bring monthly depending on the resolution and the amounts indicated that the publishers could provide monthly and each day of the assembly. Please respond by Monday 19 September at the latest. Of course, if you do not agree with the proposal you should indicate it in a message to the same address."
So what do you think will happen if indeed anyone does "not agree with the proposal" and does follow instructions to write in saying so?
