Is it wrong to change your religion?
by stuckinarut2 inis it wrong to change your religion or abandon beliefs you were once taught?.
let this article help you decide.... http://wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/102009251.
clearly, no one should be shunned, or mistreated if they discover facts about their former faith....

Although the Bible makes a clear distinction between true and false teachings, God allows each person the freedom to choose how he or she will respond. (Deuteronomy 30:19, 20) No one should be forced to worship in a way that he finds unacceptable or be made to choose between his beliefs and his family. Does study of the Bible lead to family breakup? No. In fact, the Bible encourages a husband and wife who practice different religions to remain together as a family.—1 Corinthians 7:12, 13.
Exactly. Right from the Devils, I mean the horses mouth.
Edit: 3 This is good, and pleases God our Savior, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

LoL ToesUp. That is exactly what my MiT does. Also the whole "those who leave the truth lives go down the toilet."
Sad thing about her and it already has been commented on is the fact that most JW's I know are completely unprepared for retirement. They literally have nothing saved up and are in debt up to their eyeballs!! First thing I did upon waking up was get the retirement account going again.
Kairos- sorry for the situation that you are in. I hope she wakes up. Even a little time awake and enjoying life as we should is better than nothing.

My mother-in-law is the same way, always with the "what if's" and the doom talk. I try to steer it to a happy place and boom! back to the gloom!!
We don't talk much nowadays.

Right MoC. By being happy and telling these depressed people how much joy we can have in life, that alone might wake some up. While in we were constantly told how bad this world is. Screw that! The world we live in is amazing and life is worth living to the full. Perhaps as DoC says, The greatest revenge is living a happy & successful life!

You make a good point Doc about not being "with them" if we are enjoying life. That's too bad though. I'd rather make them wonder than join them in misery.
Its understandable that most faders can't do that or it will arouse suspicion. How can they say they are living "the best life ever" if they are so depressed? How is it they cannot see how hypocritical that is?

Even though they are old their life isn't over. A friend growing ups father was super old. He always said, "I'm not a dirty old man. I'm a sexy senior citizen!!" And he was indeed. Always screwing around with other ladies. Even some in their 20's. He didn't care. He was never home, always going out and having fun with people. Such an awesome guy and he went out with a bang....literally. These older witnesses are in a bad situation and I think they are about counted out, but the curtain hasn't drawn yet and so there is time to go around and bang some stuff and drink a bunch, see the beautiful world around them and make a difference.
This young couple that we seen yesterday has a good 40 or so years left. I just want to shake them.

And that's what I try to do ToesUp, just be happy and positive. Even when we were going to the meetings and doing all the JWBS I was always a happy person. It seems more and more even the die hard witnesses are depressed as all hell. You're right though. The hope that they held right in front of them seems farther and farther away now. The last meeting I went to a few months back there was an old lady there that has cancer. All she said was that she hoped the kingdom would come before she dies. The look in her eyes were unforgettable. The tear-filled look of dispair. I gave her a hug and that was it. These people know they will die without their hope being fulfilled.
Maybe this topic should be: What to say to a sleepy witness to subtly wake them up and start enjoying the life they have left?

Zeb I agree with the fact that they all seem to run on the same script. And yesterday I tried my damndest to cheer these two up but nothing seems to work.
His dad is a long time elder who is in constant pain from a long life of hard work. This elder now can hardly do anything without being in severe pain. I told the son that his dad has lived a long life and he has a great family. He should be proud of that and reflect on the good he has done. (Although he wasted a lot of it in the org)
These people's misery doesn't affect me personally but I do feel sorry for them. (Oxymoron)

I have a question. Yesterday while the wife and I were hitting garage sales we seen a house selling tools. This house happened to be a witness couple getting rid of some old stuff. It's a beautiful day mind you. The wife and I just hit the local farmers market and then we were going to get a Biggbe coffee and do some more errands.
We go to the house and talk to the couple who are long time friends. All these people can talk about it how hard life is and that they are "just barely hanging on...." My response to that is "Don't let go."
I find it amazing that this family really has it made. He has a great job, a beautiful home in a fantastic neighborhood. Yet they are visibly miserable.
What do you say to try to cheer up these sleepy culties? Since the wife and I have been out we have really been enjoying life again. Visiting family. Spending weekends doing whatever we want. This couple has it made and they are miserable. I could give them a million dollars and they would still be depressed.
