Ok I was under the impression that the divine name was not in use shortly after captivity in Babylon because of superstition surrounding the name.

I have not done a thorough study of this subject as of yet. Just what I studied out of the Imperial Bible dictionary under the subject Jehovah.

To be honest I've only been at this study thing for a few months. I would like to know more about this subject of the personal name being used in the first century because that's a new thought.

I still hold however that the name Jehovah is grammatically inncorrect. Just because some guy a few hundred years ago made it up and it became accepted doesn't make it right. Further to address the supreme one of the universe by His first name takes some real balls. Father or Lord is more appropriate for us little specs here on earth.

(of course this is coming from someone who doesn't pray to God because I'm kinda pissed at him.😗)

Your thoughts are appreciated. There are many brothers who desire to become an Elder in the congregation but don't realise what is truly involved. Many regret it only after they see how it truly is.

The Elder meetings are a complete joke. Start with a vague theme scripture then you might as well throw your bible out the window for the rest of the meeting. After hours of arguing a subject using the handbook, you come to a halfhearted decision. Afterward you tell newer Elders how incredible the Holy Spirit was during the meeting.

They make it appear as if they do not respect the personal name of God imo. The truth is they do respect it so they omit it from their bible. At least that's the impression I'm getting here.

So now at the Watchtower study millions more will be mislead into believing that "the world" doesn't have respect for the creators name.

He had plenty of opportunity during the Lords Prayer to use the divine name but to be honest, would we address our blood father by his first name? It would be disrespectful. Likewise Jesus wouldn't have used The Fathers personal name in prayer.

I think that more than anything bugs me about hearing J-dumbs pray. It's not appropriate to use Gods personal name. (Add the fact is wrong in the first place)

In fact, just two years after the New World Translation of the Christian Greek Scriptures was released in 1950, the Revised Standard Version was published. That version omitted the name, reversing the policy of the editors of the American Standard Version of 1901. Why? So they vilify the ASV bible for not using Gods name. Oh but wait!! Let's look at the full quote!!

So out of respect for the divine name they omit it from their translation. Why the lies Watchtower???

i was just thinking about how the wts has been spouting off for years that satan and his demons were cast down to the vicinity of the earth in 1914, but really, when you think about it, what was the difference before 1914 or after 1914?.

its not like satan and his demons did not have access to the earth.

This thing with Satan makes a good argument for the way disfellowshipped people are treated. If God in all his wisdom had dealings with the instigator of all things for thousands of years, why should we treat fellow humans who may have done something much less on the scales of justice like lepers? 🤔

If ever I get put before a judicial committee I will ask that question.🤓

A JW experience

this is a quick experience i have recently had and i have two questions at the end.. a couple of weeks ago, the dogs were barking at the gate on saturday morning and wouldn't you know it, it was some witnesses.

there was a father with his lovely wife and their young daughter.

the father did all the talking as mother and daughter just dutifully smiled and watched.

Back in the day I worked with a long time Auxiliary Pioneer who would get derailed on the easiest of subjects. It was as if she really didn't care if she was successful or not. I remember quite a few times she would get asked if she was a JW and the householder would say, "I'm not interested." Now from here a few basic questions could be asked to perhaps persuade the householder back on track.

She would just be like, "Ok have a nice day!" and that was it. 😕 It was such a waste of time working with someone like that lol.

Personally I just enjoyed talking to people. I never cared much about selling those silly mags. Just share a thought from the bible and ask for an HONEST opinion, good or bad. Had some great convos with people since most thought the bible was rubbish anyways. Those experiences were probably the one thing I actually miss about serve us.
