Women must not instruct men, even by singing a theocratic song.
by Ultimate Axiom ini did a quick search and this doesn’t appear to have been commented on here, but if it has been, i apologise in advance for starting an unnecessary thread.. regarding a change to a song title, the study article on page 7 paragraph 17 of november 2017 watchtower explained, “the change of the title “guard your heart” to “we guard our hearts” was most considerate.
in the audience at our meetings, assemblies, and conventions are many new ones, interested ones, young ones, and sisters who by singing the words would be put in the awkward position of telling others what to do.
so the title and the lyrics were modified.”.

Rather weirdly singing and telling everybody to "Listen and obey" (Song 89) seems to be OK.
Of course that was the name of the song 5 mins ago it may well have been changed by now!

Why do ex-JW's talk so much about being ex-JW's?
by Sour Grapes inis it because we were in the cult watchtower compound that we talk about being ex-jw's when we stop being active?
i have never heard anyone say that i was an ex-catholic or an ex-lutheran or an ex-baptist.
they just stop going to their church and don't talk about it.. years after not stepping inside a kingdom hell, many of us still have to talk about being ex-jw's.

Very few religions tell you what medical treatment a parent can give their child, or that you may not speak to your own daughter because she now believes something different from you, or what kind of education you can get, etc etc.
The greater the control the greater the rebellion when you realize you have been conned, and maybe when people complain it is just because they have a desire to help others avoid being conned too.

Hell Exists
by Poppy520 inmany people of all denominations are beginning to believe that hell does not exist - but the bible supports the claim that it does.
examine this verse, one under nkjv and the other nwt:.
nkjv - matthew 25:46, "and these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.".

I think hell might exist because there is a story about a huge building surrounded by fire and lava and inside is a large dragon, making a journey to this evil place is a giant and a donkey that speaks! Oh wait that's Shrek, sorry, got my talking animals mixed up.

And to introduce the item in the meeting about how important Jesus is, they will use a song from the new song book that has the name Jesus in the title. Unfortunately there isn't one!

I remember listening to a talk some years ago about the angels keeping Jehovah's congregation clean and clearing out wrongdoers.
What a pile of absolute drivel.

The wonder of scientific research
by amicabl inthis has possibly been brought up before however here goes.. constant reference is made by many posters to scientific research as being the only way to prove something factual that would otherwise have to be taken on faith.
there actually seems to be "faith" in scientific findings.. my experience over many years is that most scientific research is fake.
nothing oftencomes of the big announcements made to raise more money.. money, prestige, pride, human error, suppositions etc., are rife amongst the scientific community.. i realise that there have been many advances over hundreds of years but humankind is in a mess, although very different to even a century ago.. the medical profession now has vaccinations for everything, antiviral drugs etc.

Having looked at my last post on this thread I think one of man's greatest inventions is the spelling/grammar checker, and I really need to use one :-)

I think that at its simplest science is just about trying to find out how things work, asking questions and seeing if the facts support what you believe or not. That seems a worthwhile endeavour. For example finding out a little bit how the brain works, so that someone with schizophrenia can be treated rather than being burned at the stake because people think the are possessed by demons seen like a bit of progress. There was a time when everybody walked by faith trusting everything religious leaders taught them without question, these times were called the dark ages. -

I could not stand the hypocrisy, such as elders who never speak to you at a meeting suddenly wanting to give you a shepherding call because they care for you so much. Strangely this caring often developed a week before the C.O. was visiting and disappeared the day after he left.
