Why I Left Jehovah's Witnesses--a 10-page essay by sd-7
by sd-7 inwhy i left jehovahs witnesses.
they can be painful to bear, but sometimes that is part of life in a setting with many people and their various personalities.. it was my examination of evidence that did lead me to leave jehovahs witnesses.
they, of course, had failed to bear proper witness to his name.

Oh my. That is what Russel taught. A Messiah Class, Christ Class, Anointed Class... all of whom would eventually have all of the same titles as the Son of God, and were included in the body as represented by a loaf of unleavened bread...

Coptic John 1:1 makes it into the Watchtower.
by slimboyfat inwt november 1st has a two page article on how the early sahidic coptic version of the new testament translated god with an indefinite article in john 1:1 and argues this supports the new world translation's rendering "and the word was a god".
online witness apologists have been using this piece of evidence in support of the nwt for a few years now.
in particular solomon landers promoted the coptic version of john 1:1 in discussions with evangelicals and other who oppose witness theology.

I am assuming it was to assist with the discussion on this other bumped thread? Or was the other thread bumped? Who bumped it first?
I have asked questions on this forum and been referred to the search feature. Perhaps people want to discuss this and do the search first.

Alternatively, the Coptic could support "the Word was divine." But the Coptic does not support a translation like "the Word was God."
The word for divine is theios or theias as in 2 Peter 1:4. For by these He has granted to us His precious and magnificent promises, so that by them you may become partakers of divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world by lust.
The word for God is theos as in John 1:1 and John 3:16. For God so loved the world, and
Luke 18:19 And Jesus said to him, "Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone.

According to Greek scholar William Barclay, neither does the Greek text support the reading, "the Word was God." Barclay writes: "When a Greek noun has not got the article in front of it, it becomes rather a description than an identification, and has the character of an adjective rather than of a noun....John is not here identifying the Word with God. To put it very simply, he does not say that Jesus was God." -- Many Witnesses, One Lord, pp. 23, 24
Let's apply this rule to some more scriptures:
John 1:6: There came a man, sent from a god.
John 1:18: No man has seen a god at any time.
Matthew 5:9: Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of a god.
2 Corinthians 4:4: the God of this system of things.
Hebrews 1:8: toward but the Son The throne of you the God into the age of the age.
John 20:28: (Thomas speaking to Jesus) The God of me!

My first conversation with an "anointed"
by Terry ini was not "born in".. i was recruited.. i've told the story dozens of times.. it began as a "best friend" at school comraderie and ended with my baptism 4 or 5 years later.. i had no desire up front to join any church or attend any services or even to associate myself with people who talk about "god" and "faith".. it creeped me out.. my family was not sociable.
they were like hermits.. my grandmother had been reared catholic and had attended convent school.
she told horror stories about the stern, disciplinarian mother superior and corporal punishments by the nuns.. i had the bible read to me barely at all.

LOL! It was a miracle. Nice writing.
And for an explanation of what anointed means if applied to a person other than Jesus Christ: 1 John 5:1 and 1 John 2:27-3:2
1 John 2:27 is the only use of the word in the NT applying to anyone other than Jesus, and it is referring to the Holy Spirit dwelling within a believer. ANY believer.
So far I have found the term "Anointed One" used in the NT is always referring to Jesus. Interesting that Russel used the term "Messiah Class" and "Christ Class" referring to the "Anointed Class". He also said that they were entitled to all titles given to Jesus including Everlasting Father! The teaching is still there, just hidden.
So Terry, was the tea drugged?

Ugh. One of them came again today.
It was my cousin. He graced my porch for about 5 minutes while we peeped at him and waited for him to leave. I can't wait until I can hand him a "To whom will you go away to" tract.
That is twice in one week. I am angry. I am angry that I have to worry about people seeing into my house. I have to keep my blinds closed or lose the chance of talking to my parents one last time. I am angry! and I wish I could tell him.
They want people to let them worship God how they choose. Why won't they let me?

I prefer the interlinear translation of John 1: In beginning was the Word and the Word was with the God and God was the Word.
Without Him came into being not even one thing.
In him life was and the life was the light of men.And if John also wrote the book of Revelation, we find there that the resurrected Jesus in heaven continues to refer to his Father as "my God." (Revelation 3:12)
Revelation 22:12 “Behold, I am coming soon, bringing my recompense with me, to repay each one for what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, he beginning and the end.” 16 “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches.
Revelation 1:5-17 5 and from Jesus Christ the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of kings on earth.
To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood 6 and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen. 7 Behold, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail on account of him. Even so. Amen.
8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega," says the Lord God, "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."
12 Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking to me, and on turning I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and in the midst of the lampstands one like a son of man,
17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. But he laid his right hand on me, saying, "Fear not, I am the first and the last, 18 and the living one. I died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.
Also see Isaiah 40:10 10 Behold, the Lord [i] GOD will come with might,
With His arm ruling for Him.
Behold, His reward is with Him
And His recompense before Him.Revelation 22:12,13.
12 “Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to render to every man according to what he has done. 13 I am the Alpha and the Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.”
14 Blessed are those who wash their robes, so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city. 15 Outside are the dogs and the sorcerers and the immoral persons and the murderers and the idolaters, and everyone who loves and practices lying.
16 “I, Jesus, have sent My angel to testify to you these things for the churches.
The Lord, who has taken up your cause, and who gave you life in your mother's body, says, I am the Lord who makes all things; stretching out the heavens by myself, and giving the earth its limits; who was with me? Isaiah 44:24
But of the Son he says: You, Lord, at the first did put the earth on its base, and the heavens are the works of your hands. Hebrews 1:10
22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth; for I am God, and there is none else.
23 By myself have I sworn, the word is gone forth from my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, that unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. Isaiah 45:22,23
10 that in the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven and things on earth and things under the earth, 11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phillipians 2:10;11
whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
In order that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father.*
