...the fact is we know that [a] God [of love] allows bad things to happen....
Do you not realize how irrational that sounds?
i know many on here have lost faith in the bible , is it possible that is because ones do not have the right perspective regarding it .
we have usually been taught by bad teachers , or ignorant .
i believe if we take an honest look at the bible , we will see that it gives us the best answers to crucial matters , it gives us some amount of bearings ( understanding ) , which without having such knowledge we would all be more like walking zombies in amanner of speaking , we would be lacking hope in something better , for surely something better is to come , how can we be sure , .

In regards to the warfare where the women and male children were taken captive and later killed under the order of Moses , in the previous chapter it speaks of these people as having acted wickedly against the Israelites , the women turning the men to Baal Worship , and much more surely took place , note that before this many of the Israalite men were killed for Baal Worship , is this right , the worship of Baal involved child sacrifice I believe , at least at some point of time . WAS THAT A GOOD THING , NOT AT ALL . Were the Baal worshipers ever warned , yes they were by Balaam NUMBERS ch 24 , and probably again that we do not know about ,
So, basically, Moses and the Hebrews were ISIS.
Stop trying to defend God and the Bible. If a God exists and were all-powerful, why can he not defend himself? This amazing being, with limitless power, needs to rely on Moses and his armies to defend true worship and execute judgement? The God that parted the red sea couldn't be bothered to lift a finger?
Not to mention all the other bullcrap creation we have to deal with.

Lets look at the rape of Tamar found in 2nd Samuel 13 , how was this dealt with , the one that violated her was killed , be sure to read it all , if you don't you may think that many others were also killed , but there is a clarification that only Amnon was actually killed , for the rape of Tamar .
Regarding the example of Tamar's rape that you mention, William, it's a little bit different than what you describe.
That was an incestuous relationship. By law, Amnon should have been executed for the incest anyways, not necessarily the rape. If it wasn't rape, Tamar should have been executed too, but the bible says it was rape.
Anyhow, Amnon wasn't executed by the priests or divine intervention...Absalom had him murdered against the wishes of Jehovah's anointed one, King David.
What a heartwarming story about theocratic justice! Are we not blessed to have this understanding?

So Moses was a believer in the "God of the gaps" concept?
I am sorry man. I can only imagine how disappointing this must be for you.
That's my biggest fear in this whole mess...that my wife will decide it's not worth going down the rabbit hole any farther and climb back out.

William.
I cannot believe a book that starts off so poorly. Adam & Eve 6,000 years ago were the first humans? Science has proven this to be false. A great flood happening 4,000 years or so? No geological evidence whatsoever.
Not to mention the fact that we have no evidence (other than conjecture, anecdotal and circumstantial) that certain prophecies that supposedly came true were actually written when they were supposedly written.
If you don't mind, I'd like to base my life's morality on being good for the sake of being good and the happiness of my fellow human beings, not out of fear of some deity that may or may not exist. I think being a good person because it's the right thing to do is more honorable and righteous than being a good person because you might displease a God.
a couple of weeks ago someone posted that jw.org accidentally posted the 2015 regional convention release.
i can not fine the thread now.. i saw a picture of it yesterday.
a sister had downloaded the pdf and read it that night.. it is a 16-page brochure entitled "return to jehovah", with a purple background.. it has been designed specifically for inactive ones are those who have been raised around the truth but never baptized.
Ugh, goody goody. I guess this gives me a reason to finally put away the Christmas decorations....
Faye: I can't remember, are you faded or did you DA?

"your share in contributing to the spiritual paradise".
18 it is an honor to be allowed by jehovah to contribute to the beauty of our spiritual paradise.we do that by zealously preaching the kingdom good news and making more disciples.
Sadly, the WTBTS and all organized religions are NOT running out of white-wash. Add to that, "a sucker born every minute."
What they've done is convince people that there is a spiritual (read "invisible") bucket, spiritual brush and spiritual whitewash and they should be privileged to take part in the wonderful work. When you've done that, there's a never ending supply of suckers.

i'm not an expert but that is my understanding of this: .
opinion filed.. (signed published) the judgment against defendants on the negligence count is affirmed.
the judgment against watchtower on the cause of action for punitive damages is reversed with directions to enter judgment for watchtower on punitive damages.
What's the over/under on WT still appealing the negligence ruling? I bet they do.

EDIT: Barbara, good point. Is it possible, though, that they could put out a JW dot ORG official press release about the 'victory' and not even mention the negligence ruling?
