Nina...I'll be thinking of you the next few days. My thoughts and condolences are with you. I am glad that you told that elder what you thought and felt.

today i found out that my dad committed suicide, probably on sunday sometime.
his body was found today and the plano police department called me.
i am numb and grieving, kind of relieved for a lot of reasons, and very very sad.

looks like it is going to be interesting.
one family has owned a certain property since 1932. one of the family members and his wife place a single wide mobile home on part of it in 1984. at the time it was outside the city limits and in a rural setting.
the city has grown over the past two decades and has annexed a lot of rural property.
Exactly...get as many bodies as you can...pack the meeting place w/ your supporters. I ran into that problem too once. I ended up selling...(at a profit, incidentally). But, I was faced with the same decision and I opted not to fight.
Good luck!

thinking of trading in sabine's little miata for a pick up truck.
the miata has beenfun to drive when the weather is nice.
however, if you know what seattle is like 9 months out of the year, you do not get to put the top down very often.
I don't have any pictures of my truck...but I drive a 1998 GMC Sierra 1500 extended cab with the Z-71 off road package. I do like it much. It's the last year that they put the Vortec 5.7 (read 350) V-8 in. It's a very comfortable truck and I've been mostly problem free with it. Mine is pretty much a Cadillac of a truck...Leather, power everything, and all the goodies. It also has it where it counts. The towing package etc.
I'm pretty happy with my truck, but if I ever trade...(read: when it falls to pieces)...I'll probably seriously consider a new Ford F-250 super duty with the 7.3L power stroke diesel. Just not ready to buy a 40K truck.
By the way...you can get a nice 2 wheel drive 1998 with reasonable miles for around 10 or 12K

you know, i've been on here only 2 months.
oddly enough, i have been intrigued by some of the itty-bitty photos (jpegs/gifs) used beside your names.
some look like 'a person', but is it you?
Mine...when it shows up, is a picture of my BMW 320i that I use in amateur road racing. It's a hell of a lot more fun to do on a Sunday than going to KH and fieldservice.

i myself was raised in the "truth" til i was df'd at the age of 21. i have often wondered that if i were allowed to grow up just as every other child did in the u.s. would i have been interested in looking at the organization and taking interest?
do any of you think and wonder the same thing?
Just wanted to say Hi! and welcome you here. Good to see you make it over here too. Look forward to you posting.

there is a homemaking type board that i visit and some of the ladies there were complaining about jws that just keep coming back.
being nice, they had accepted the mags and then threw them in the trash.
one ladies noticed that the same jw showed up every few weeks with a different person and gave her the new magazines.
My daughter is 9 and is an "unbaptized publisher". Sometimes when I call her on Saturday or Sunday...I'll ask her how her weekend was and what did she do? When she tells me she has been in service....I alwasy ask her "Ah...I see....So, did you have any luck?" Okay...I know that's kinda mean...being that JW's believe that "luck" is bad. In my conversations with her and others, I find that many simply are too embarassed to ask for donations and give the householders the impression that the magazines ARE provided free of charge. Many of the poor schmucks poundin' on doors are footing the bill for it.

PS...as a lesson in "luck"...I was explaining to my daughter what lottery tickets are and how they work. LOL

Honestly, that is a hard question...my first reaction was "well, maybe if they got to me right around high school or right after. I was never one to "fit in" so maybe I would have been a sucker for all of the "love" that they show to a new potential recruit" but then a millisecond later I thought..."but if I hadn't been a JW, would I have been such an outsider in school?" I doubt it.
I'm one of those people that it could have gone either way for. Obviously, after getting sooooo burned, I have become much more the skeptic and cynic.

subject: a genuine psychological test... dare to do it?.
it is a story about a girl...... while at the funeral of her own mother, she met this guy whom she did.
Yep....JW's will have it posted all over their boards. Look for it to be quoted soon in a Watchtower or Awake near you...

i saw two jws i know quite well the other day and i started to think.
they are both men in their mid 40s, both look like they are pushing 55. both are single, dirt poor and unskilled, although one is going to marry soon.
the first man, who works as a landscaper, was a good mechanic but never got the technical training necessary so is in essence unskilled labor.
The WTS is very good at CYA. Any lawyer worth his salt would argue that what the individual's actions were are simply a result of someone else's interpretation of their articles. They will lay the blame at the individual's feet, or at the least...at the elder's feet. And as you mentioned....those elders don't have a pot to piss it, so what's the point?
Ern
Personally, I tend to be pretty skeptical of most people and even more so of their motives. Hey, I spent way to much time being used and getting walked on. I may be a sucker for a sob story or many other things...but I'm not so stupid that I haven't learned from my mistakes.
