most of you know that my youngest son, 8, is a little worry wart.......he is always worrying about death, mainly me dying.
he has been to doctors when he was younger for ptsd, ocd, and addh.
what are you doing in teaching your children spiritual things?
I tell my daughter to question everything. I tell her that spiritual things are especially important to question. I tell her that she shouldn't believe ANYTHING just because someone, anyone tells her something. She needs to be true to herself first. If those beliefs are in keeping with who SHE is, fine...I'll back her a thousand percent. I don't want a little lemming parading to the edge of the cliff just because someone else tells her she should.

in the conversations that i had with the elders that were privy to the details of my daughter's molestation case, they assured me that they "had been in contact w/ hq.
" now either this is total bs, or the society directed them to not go to the law, as required.
Well, I fianlly spoke to Bethel today. The guy was a real putz. He was a total moron. He kept missing the whole point of why I was calling. He told me to write the branch about not being informed by the elders. He then went on to tell me how great the anti-child abuse policy is and how progressive they are at enforcing it.
After that, I went ahead and called in some help. I had been in contact w/ kim norris, but things seem to be a bit on hold. I spoke to Bill and he said he would make sure that Kim gets back in touch w/ me. He said that they are also trying to get Dateline to do a followup and would I mind giving permission to tell them about me? Of course, I said sure thing. Will I be DF? probably...Do I care? not really.

Well, I called JW HQ today. In the conversations that I had with the elders that were privy to the details of my daughter's molestation case, they assured me that they "had been in contact w/ HQ." Now either this is total BS, or the society directed them to NOT go to the law, as required. So, I wanted to find out. Unbeknownst to me...the lawyers at HQ work banker's hours. They don't take weekend calls or anything...so, I'll be phoning them. I was cautioned that it was "not my business" by one of the elders involved when I asked him which departments that they had communicated with. SO, I figure it's up to me to do this on my own. Yep, I'll have my recorder handy, as TN is a singel party consent recording state.
I'll let you know what the tell me.

i remember people getting very upset because they didn't called on to answer by the watchtower conductor like they felt they should.
some people used to get very upset if they had to work out in service with the same person, twice in a row.
of course, now, it's no big deal.

reading jst2laws account of his and joy's execrable treatment by his one-time friends, has really brought it home to me that the disfellowshippers need their knuckles rapped - and hard, too.. when someone becomes disillusioned with their religion, they are in a very vulnerable and emotional state for quite a while.
for that same religion then to, not only cast them out, but insist that their friends and families should do the same, is criminal to say the least.. yet, what accountability do these disfellowshippers have to face?
i'll tell you - absolutely none!
I'd be up for writing letters. I'd be appreciative if someone could outline a little something to go on. Some of the things that we may want to point out in each case. Sorry, I'm not necessarily the most self expressive and eloquent person around...sometimes, I just need a little kickstart.

a recent death in my family triggered my worst fear - as irrational as it may sound - into a very real possibility.. let me explain: as a global culture, we simply accept that when someone dies, those who care about them will want to gather and offer a meaningful tribute to the person and those who survive them.
with regard to my recently deceased family member - her own children decided against holding a memorial service for her surviving family, which included two children and their respective spouses, eight grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
yes, we are spread out over 2000 miles.

this week i did what ive allways wanted to do and joined the navy,,, well nany reserve is the best i can do right now.. im waiting for all the tests now, but i just wanted your thoughts on the "moral rightness" of joining the military.. im still gonna do it though!.

Thank You, each and every one of you that are in the Military. I did not serve, and actually is now one of my regrets. I think I would have greatly benefitted from the experience.

i usually don't get involved in things like this, as i've long known the futility and uselessness of arguing with jello.
however, for the benefit of those looking on and wondering where the truth really lies, i figured i'd say a few things.. back2dafront made quite a spiel over on another thread about how terrible it is to serve in the armed forces, and i must say that the tears of purple koolade were just pouring down my cheeks in rivers.
he's such an abused little fellow ... personally, i'll bet my wife's been shot at more than he has.
My thoughts turn to those of disgust. I look at the history books and how so many of us are authorities when it comes to hindsight. Even as a Highschool student, I looked at the train of events that led to different conflicts and pompously thought..."Couldn't those dummies see that they were headed for war? Why does everyone always act like it's such a surprise? Couldn't anyone see where the alliances in Europe were leading in the early part of the century? Didn't anyone pay attention to the aggressive stance of Germany, Italy, and Japan in the 1930's?"
I almost have to laugh at myself now. What fools we are. These people saw what was coming as they inexorably closed with the destinies of their nations. The common men read the newspapers and listened to their radios, and they read letters from family abroad. They too could see the fate of their nations just as clearly as we see ours today. Yet, the common man and woman realized that they had little influence over the fate of their nations....or even of the themselves.
It is a bittersweet understanding to realize only now, as the midnight hour approaches. Only now do I finally have empathy for our forebearers. Only now do I come down off of the pedestal of superiority, both moral and intellectual, and see that I, just as my forefathers, am at the mercy of the winds of history.

Kat, this bring in a whole separate philisophical debat on "what is morality?" and who has the right to define it. From a strictly judeo-christian standpoint, the answer would be the bible. The only problem with this is that this view takes for granted that the bible is more than a collection of Jewish legends with life lessons in it. Sorry, but one of the ideas that has failed and continues to fail is that ANYONE can define what is "moral" and then legislate that. Just think about the old laws that are on the books about sexual conduct. Isn't it amazing that in many states in the US, that cunnilingus and anal sex are still "illegal"? Don't you find it intrusive that anyone would have the temerity to decide for you and yours what is lawful and what is not? They legislate what you can view and what you cannot? Sorry, but to me, that simply doesn't wash. Religion has little to do with wether or not a person is an upstanding, respectful and productive citizen of his community.

It really depends. Many libraries here in the states have part time entry level positions that don't require much education. If you really want to be a librarian, many times you must have at least a bachelor's degree in education or library sciences (yes there is a course of study with that name...LOL).
I assisted in a school library and really liked the work, since I'm somewhat of a bookworm. I found that my experience mattered little with even trying to volunteer for library work. There seemed to be a stigma against me because I am "convex" rather than "concave"...I stand instead of squat. Yes, indeed...Ol' dawg has experienced "reverse" sexual discrimination. It was a real eye opening moment. So, my career path is a whole lot different than what it might have been.
You can ask Copsec if she knows of any other tips. I know she used to work in a public library here in the states.
