A look into the secret world of a U.S. navy ship in The Gulf...
by happysunshine inthis was just taken by a guy i grew up with.
he said the war is over, and they're coming home.
so they had a little 'pickle barrell' celebration as only navy boys can.

Which are you? Emotional or Intellectual?
by Yizuman inafter observing the two sides arguing about the war with iraq, i have come to see 2 kinds of groups, not just the argument from conservatives and liberals, but from those who think with either from their intellectual or emotional standpoints...... from the emotional standpoints who oppose the war, which i would call the "oprah thinkers", these are the group of people who think with their emotional part of the brain rather than the intellectual part of the brain.
the oprah thinkers likes to cry alot and dab their eyes with a hankerchef.
they get outraged when a human being regardless of their background (good or evil) gets killed for whatever reason it may be.. then there are those who support the war, which i would call the "spock thinkers", who think from the intellectual part of the brain rather than from the emotional part of the brain.

Why did everyone jump on this guys head? Is there something I don't know?
Anyway, I think I know what you're getting at. But I too think that catagorization is limiting. When you get down to it, I think 'logic' and 'emotion' are inseperable- perhaps the same thing in a way. For example, being pro-war because Saddam is an international threat, or a wrong dictator could be described as a 'logical' argument. However, the experience of the concept 'threat' or 'wrong' is ultimately an 'emotional' reaction. If it was purely a 'mathamatical' or 'logical' issue, there would be no motivation to act. Conversly, the 'emotional' reaction (ie stop killing babies!) is in essence based on 'logic' , perhaps the concept that killing there will lower the quality of my life here in some 'logical' way.
Anyway, I'm a loosley organized hairball of factoids and non-sequitters. Mabey a philosophy major can help me out here? -J

Demi Does..............Japan?
by Englishman inhave you ever wondered how the super stars manage to supplement their meagre incomes?.
well, all is revealed here!.
they go to japan and make tv ads exclusively for our oriental cousins.

Thats hillarious! I did an ad for an English school in 2000 when I was there, but nothing like those! Celebraties will often limit release of Japanese commercials so as not to look dumb in the west and 'damage' their career.

Last minute plea for help/Comedy: JWs/English ex-husband
by berylblue inokay, my comedy instructor says i can not use satan in my comedy routine...it's a shame, it really fit when i describe being a witness.
the bit about being df b/c i wasn't annoying enough at the doors was very well rec'd by my classmates, but i am leading in by saying how strict the religion is.
to what may i compare being a jw?

Do you think the war has gone better or worse than expected?
by Simon in.
i know there have been some 'bad' events but on the bigger scale of things i think the war has so far gone remarkably well.
if the reports are to be believed then major resistance has crumbled and, althought there is still a lot to do, it does not appear to be turning into the street-by-street bloodbath that some feared.. whether it will be judged truly successful will, of course, take many years and will largely depend on how things get off to a good start or not with any interim government.. the troops have done a great job ... let's hope the politicians don't flush it all down the drain.

Well, in the back of my mind I was worried that a 'dirty bomb' would go off in a kindergarden somewhere after the invasion. So, from that perspective, I guess its been ok so far.
About the military controled post-war reconstruction. I don't know that much about that topic, but wasn't post-WWII Japan's entire relief work, industry, and government under US military control for years?
