Ex-Elders please advice on my first Public Talk as a MS.
by african GB Member inthe topic is- "young people: serve jehovah wholeheartedly".. i'd appreciate various points that would make this talk appealing to my cong.
youths, but please keep it within jw boundaries because i don't want to give my elders any hint of me being an apostate yet.. i have to say that i am still enjoying my newly given "priviledges'', and am still so surprised that holy spirit has'nt pointed me out yet.. agbm.

AGBM:
Based on your icon, could your real name possibly be: Samuel Francisco Herd?
If you're really giving a public talk, just read the outline word-for-word and look up about 10 random scriptures from the outline. That's what all the other hacks do.

Interesting how they try to explain this.... again.
Of interest is the new DVD that will evidently be coming out "Jehovahs Witnesses, Faith in Action - Out of Darkness"
They mention how Fred Franz was a 'contemporary' of many of the younger anointed. Of course, although even that is a stretch, the Bible never uses the word 'contemporary' in that specific context. The word is 'generation'. Who really believes that Freddie Franz, a man who grew up literally in horse-and-buggy days, is of the same generation as the 35-year-old elder who started partaking 6 weeks ago?
I'm assuming this is the concluding talk of the district convention.

WTS Smoking in the 1940's
by cantleave ini went to meeting today.
during the public talk it was mentioned that as far back as 1942 the society pointed out the dangers of smoking tobacco and that it wasn't appropriate for christains.
as usual there were no references given.

Actually, I found this reference which stated that 1895 was one of the first times Russell spoke against tobacco use.
*** w95 5/15 p. 23 par. 11 Part 2—Flashes of Light—Great and Small ***
As a result of increased light, habits at first merely frowned upon were later handled with appropriate gravity. An example of this was in connection with the use of tobacco. In Zion’s Watch Tower of August 1, 1895, Brother Russell directed attention to 1 Corinthians 10:31 and 2 Corinthians 7:1 and wrote: “I cannot see how it would be to God’s glory, or to his own profit, for any Christian to use tobacco in any form.” Since 1973 it has been clearly understood that no tobacco user can be one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. -

CONVENTION PHOTO !!
by elder-schmelder ini found this picture on facebook.. but i wanted to ask everyone a question.
how many people here remember a moment in their young adult life at the conventions like this?.
[picture removed - it's unclear if this is publicly available or copied without permission - simon].

They are already rebellious. In the first picture, I count ZERO lapel badges. In the second, I see only TWO lapel badges. Don't they know the FDS tells you to wear that lapel badge so you can advertise your name and congregation to available singles advertise advertise advertise the king and his convention?

2010 Examining the scriptures daily
by bobld inforeword: "secular education is shortsighted.true a good education is a basic need,it can be the difference between deing able to provide for your family or not.benefits of secular education is limited.education cannot guarantee life" just some wise council for the gb/fds of the wbts.. "there is a type of education that can benefit us eternally.
(study god's word and the wbts, wt/a, publications) will guarantee life (bs).divine education helps us to pursue what is good and avoid what is bad.
" i know many good educated people who do good and avoid bad.also i know many who lack a good education who do good things and do bad things.education has nothing to do with being good or bad(look out santa clus knows).

Yeah, I noticed that in the Foreword, too. It quite ticked me off, too.
As usual, they save their anti-education rants for internal publications, like OKM or the new internal 'study' Watchtower. I'm halfway surprised they didn't compose a special anti-education song for the new songbook.

"New Order", "New World Order" systematically removed from WTS
by EndofMysteries inhas anyone else caught on to this?
i remember as a kid, 80's, it was called the "new system", then late 80's, early 90's, changed to new world order.
it's interesting that governments, conspiracy theories, news, etc, are all calling the one world government, the new world order.

They stopped using the term 'New Order' in the publications (except when quoting from other sources) around 1986. 'New System' is still used, but not nearly as much as 'New World'.

Kelle Jarka
by isaacaustin inhas it been confirmed whether or not he was an active witness at the time of his crime?
can someone post the article making the statement to that effect?.

Interesting about what happened about Lester Jarka. I do recall hearing the name Keith Kelle - I think he was a CO and maybe even a DO at one time. I knew his father, Irving Kelle, when he was alive. I think Irving used to be in the now defunct Nashville Illinois congregation.

Not to hijack this thread or anything, but I wonder if Kelle Jarka is any relation to Lester Jarka. If anybody here is from the St. Louis area, they may remember that name. Lester was a heavy hitter in the Metro East area for many years throughout the 70's and 80's, featured on EVERY assembly and convention. Then, in the early 90's, he 'stepped down' and disappeared. Seemed like a nice enough guy, but never knew what happened to him.

Coded Phone number for Kingdom Hall attendence.
by Joshnaz ini just learned the the kingdom halls have a coded phone number for listening in on the sunday meetings.

Interesting....
In my old hall, the telephone tie-in consisted of a speaker, a twisted wire coat hanger, and a telephone. When the shut-in called the hall to listen in, I would hang the phone receiver over the coat hanger so it dangled right next to the speaker - just close enough to let the shut-in listen at home.
Kingdom Hall? IT Department? Those two phrases don't belong in the same sentence...
