I can't help but wonder about a certain elder who pioneered for a very long time where I grew up. He genuinely loved field service, loved getting into big discussions with people. He knew the Bible very well and was college educated. His fondest memories seemed to be knockdown Bible brawls with 'born againners' in the late seventies and early eighties. What must this guy be thinking now? If only I could ask him...

Can You Make Sense Of Jehovah’s Witnesses?
by minimus inas a child growing up, i would see different arguments to defend a certain belief.
it may have required mental gymnastics in order to make a point but there was an actual attempt to explain, teach, and educate....even if the belief or teaching was bogus.. nowadays, it appears that jws couldn’t explain any belief.
they are drones and do as “mother “ has directed..

Can a DF person testify at a judicial committee?
by JeffT inthis may be a plot point in a novel i'm working on.
will a judicial committee take testimony from a df'd or da person?
i could see them wanting to get dirt from any possible source, on the other hand i can picture somebody saying "he's df'd everything he says will be a lie.

It seems to me not all Df'd people are created equal. Many still "believe" and are making steps to "go back". In practice, these types are treated differently than someone who is blantantly disagreeing with the society in any way. By actions or worse....they say out loud they don't believe the teachings....gasp.

This reminds me of the Bill Moyer's/Joseph Campbell "Power of Myth" interviews from yesteryear. In it Campbell speaks of religion as "software" that we use to run our "hardware". We can run along just fine until we try and mix up our software by dabbling in different myths. At that point we can "mix up our wiring".
For this reason, Campbell didn't really recommend trying out different religions once we're use to "one set of softwares".
From my own experience after leaving the JW's I think it is better to stay within the framework of Christianity if possible. Other religions can help inform but it is better to filter through the "software of Christianity". A person can find Liberal Christianity that isn't that far a stretch from agnostic/atheism even.
My opinion anyway.

Retirement Planning
by Whynot insince waking up i can't help but look at the future in a different way.
while i was working i felt it was ridiculous for me to start a 401k because i thought for sure the end would come before i retired.
but now, i'm a stay at home mom with very small children and it bothers me that i have done nothing to prepare for the future.

Putting aside whatever you can in a 401k is always a great thing especially if your (or your husband)'s company does a match. Buying a house is an investment that can pay in the future and now (via taxes). Make sure to pay off any other debts. These are just the basics which you can read up about online or find books about. -

Two witness rule: Stop using it, its not working on JWs!
by StephaneLaliberte inmost jws don't see this as a problem.
they reason that.
just like the jws, the police will not convict a pedophile over the story of one victim alone, there must be collaborative evidence.

Not only should elders be encouraging going to police but they should also be encouraging going to counseling. They should be supporters of the victims helping them go to police and counseling.
However, the Watchtower organization still does not come close to understanding how sexual abuse effects the victim. They do not get the far reaching, life long lasting damage. The crushing soul destruction. They don't seem to even be able to display basic compassion in listening sessions when complaints are brought to them.
Basically, the Watchtower is useless. Sorry, just my rant.😡

I just finished watching this. Awesome job by all involved. The infamous 60 minutes special from the 90's in the United States was good but this was way better. I love how there does seem to now be a dialogue between the governing body and activists (albeit not face to face but they are watching and responding). I wonder who it was that posted on Facebook a video of the protesters? Was this just some young bethelite or what?

Why are there more sisters than brothers at the Kingdom Hauls?
by Sour Grapes ini have always wondered why there are more females than males in all of the congregations that i have visited?
some of these females are in their 70's so maybe their husbands have died and women just live longer.
or could the reason be that years ago men were the breadwinners and women stayed home to raise the children thus they were home during the week when the jdubs came a knocking?
