  i have been noticing a distinct difference in reaction to those who leave christianity among evangelicals and jehovah's witnesses.

  when i left jwism there wasn't much effort to correct me.

  i know this is not a surprise to any of you.

  Governing Body vs Local Elder Body

  shortly before my exit a youngish elder who recently came from brooklyn bethel commented to me how the local elder meetings were like the wild wild west.

  according to him in brooklyn there was a very definite way to handle things.

  he seemed to imply the brooklyn bethel way was better.. after seeing gb member splaines video about how elders could come to an united decision i was reminded of this.. i had to wonder about this then and i wonder now.

  watchtower writings used to have some meat to them.

  they have been increasingly watered down and simplified.

  i think we all recognize that.

  i heard many times when i was a witness how much "learning the truth" helped people.

  many have been said to have become much better people.

  addictions were given up.

  Checking Up On Disfellowshipped Ones

  if my memory serves me right in the 80's there was an effort to call on those who were disfellowshipped.

  elders would seek them out (or we're supposed to) to see if there was anything they could do to help them come back.

  it seemed like a good idea at the time to me.
