Part 4. Illustrated!
by Englishman in....i decided to make a stand.
i went into the kitchen, picked up a large carving knife, and walked out into the front garden...... .
my intention was to cut back the growth from the previous spring's daffodils, but there was a little part of me that was hoping to put the wind up 'em, if only for a fleeting second before they realised that i was just cutting back flower growth.

Well done for leaving the organisation.
I hope your family situation now improves as a result of this. Your husband sounds as if he is making real efforts to contribute to this.
My exhusbands family are all JW's. His mother talks down to and berates his father, he has very little self esteem, and is not treated with respect, therefore their children picked this up. As a result, my exhusband was unable to display any real, genuine care and concern, because he had never seen it at home as a child.
Unfortunately I think the organisation doesn't help towards really improving family life - ie don't discuss problems, just keep them quite, sweep them under the carpet. Bit like how the elders treat those in the congregation - not out of genuine love and concern, just to keep things quite, and keep Jehovah's name clean!! Sick!!
Anyway, well done again and keep posting.

Yes they did ask for the literature back. I refused to return it as i thought it would come in useful in a court case i am currently involved in. I was right!!

What's everyone doing for Christmas?
by Missie Eff ini'm in a quandry.. came out of the organisation a few years ago, have spend a couple of chilled out christmasses in front of the fire.
no presents, decorations etc, no problem!
but... my little boy is getting older and my ex-husband (my son's father and also an ex-jw) is concerned that he will miss out, just like we did as kids.. but, i am reluctant to do the whole christmas thing.

What's everyone doing for Christmas?

no presents, decorations etc, no problem!
but... my little boy is getting older and my ex-husband (my son's father and also an ex-jw) is concerned that he will miss out, just like we did as kids.. but, i am reluctant to do the whole christmas thing.

I last celebrated Christmas properly when i was 4 years old.
Last year, I sort of did Christmas but my JW husband was still around, so I just did Christmas lunch and brought him a present, and one for our daughter.
JW husband has since been moved out of the family home under court order.
This year I am celebrating Christmas in style:
My 3 year old daughter keeps reminding me (about 30 times a day) that the Christmas tree has to have "lights around it, baubles on and a star on top".
We are having a family Christmas (all exJWs). My dad (ex-elder) is going POTTY buying every Christmas light and bit of tinsel on the south coast!!
I am going to all the Christmas dinners and parties that I can with family and work colleagues!!
Did I hear a suggestion from others on the board that we send cards to each other??
What do others think?

Well done – it is rather good fun having JW’s call on you isn’t it??
I had two JW’s call on me 3 months ago. It was Saturday morning magazine service.
I answered the door, they offered the mags, I accepted, they turned to leave. But then the conversation went (something) like this:
Me: I think religion is awful and the cause of all the problems today. In fact I know one religion that orders it members to shun those who no longer believe the same that they do. AND they will let their children die rather than accept a blood transfusion. That isn’t Christian, it is not showing love. I think they stink!!
JWs: Well there is a reason why we refuse blood. The Bible instructs us to abstain from blood. I have a brochure that discusses the blood issue – perhaps you would like to read it?
Me: (Accepting brochure) Yes I know in Acts that it says to abstain from blood, as a means of telling the first century Christians how precious LIFE is. Ie don’t go killing each other in the area for sport. But that doesn’t mention anything about not using blood for medical purposes to save a persons life. To back your claim up, In your blood brochure (I said waving the brochure around), you quote Tertullian who says about those who took the blood of those who had been slaughtered in the ring, and took it to cure their epilepsy. But I think you will find that blood donor sessions are more civilised nowadays. You won’t find people slaughtered outside donor vans, just so their blood can be used to save other peoples lives.
JWs: You seem to know quite a bit about it. Have you ever studied with us?
Me: You could say I have had dealings with JWs in the past. (20 years in the org/ exhusband and inlaws are JW, my parents were JW (dad ex-elder)!!).
As the conversation went on I let them have more info about me, ie husband left me etc etc, so it got to the point 2 minutes later when one of them :
JWs: Is your name ****? (They got it spot on – I had obviously been the hot topic for gossip in the circuit – fame at last!!)
As soon as they had worked out who I was they asked for the literature back (I refused to give it back), and then defeated they (almost) ran towards the gate. I thanked them for letting me have fun with them, and left with the parting shot:
“Well at least you can put 2 magazines and 1 brochure down on your report this morning”.
Interestingly enough – they haven’t made a return visit to find out what I though of the literature!!
