I think anyone who recognises generational grammar can see this is not a modern example, merely an acted out playwright from 1950s America. Cue Doc and the Delorian I think one of the GB wants to be Marty McFly.

Being taught to explain rape when a kid
by purrpurr indoes anyone else recall in the 80s/90s that when the minor/child blood issue was discussed the jw children were taught to say that being forced to have blood would be like rape?
and then had to be able to explain what rape is?
apparently there was a court case were the drs were trying to get a court order to force a blood transfusion on a jw child, and the child said it would be like rape to her and the judge asked her to explain what rape is to see if she understood what she was saying.. that went round my cong at least as a "fine witness " and all the parents were encouraged to have their kids practice the whole "explain rape" thing.. anyone else remember this?.

Wow @wakeme... I can only imagine as a parent the moment when yr child calls logic on some nonsense rule u have just laid down.. One would hope that that may have sent a few volts into a disused circuit of his brain...
You just can't make that sound any worse than it is, my jaw is on the floor

The elephant on the street
by Normalfulla inas a contractor i travel around for my job, i was stopped this morning to buy some milk at a store in a small village i guess and as i turned a corner i saw 2 elders i know personally manning a cart in the cold outside the store with not a soul in sight and an unlikely place for much traffic even though it was outside a country store.
1 elder is my brother in laws father and the other was in my old cong when i left, i said hello, talked about the weather and general chit chat and was my usual self, they were pleasant also but nothing was mentioned to me about anything spiritual etc.
i know they will be aware of some of my reasons for leaving (the few that i talked about initially before shutting my trap) but they were unwilling to engage in saving my life with their work!

Apart from a pathetic excuse for witnessing, I thought it odd that these guys can be pleasant to an obvious org deserter but others I. E family and friends act as I'm pretty much dead.
So that's my experience given from this platform to all in attendance here.. Ha ha
If this forum had a truman show catch phrase like "good afternoon, good evening and good night "it would be
Peace out... Just saying! And let's review its a cult!

Now this guy is a well liked educated person who has dabbled in politics and is at one with where his place is on this planet, he knows alot of people and therefore attracted ALOT of answers to his post..
I thought it was a fascinating look into the demographic of the people he knows from diverse backgrounds as to what they had to say... A census if u will
I was surprised!
There was about 5% preachy people talking about jesus but the majority about science being the only truth worth trusting as well as humanism, karma, being a good person and loving others!
1 comment from an active jw elder " where is the question coming from? As in why do u ask?" couldn't help but laugh a bit seeing a witnessing set up.
A few stand out comments I thought were.
"truth and religion do not belong in the same sentence"
"beware of any belief that promotes division between you and yr fellow human beings"
"My conscience is my belief system taught to me by my parents. I have no time for religion or any other belief. Trouble is most people might also follow this but not everyone is lucky enough to have good parents like mine"
Church of Fonzie - founded by Peter Griffin
"I tend to think the rational mind would lean towards weight of evidence as the best method of drawing the most probable conclusions, or highest likelihood of truth. ....which would all but disqualify religion as a source of truth of any kind imo."
So yes I was surprised by the logic of my generation, and the 2 that overlap it to the lesser and the greater, it makes me happy and positive to think that surely that type of thinking will eventually outgrow the mindset that we here once were burdened with.

Spiritual "Protection" - a Menace on Psychological Development
by Wake Me Up Before You Jo-Ho innot quite a week ago, @lost in the fog created a thread entitled: do you have this illness?.
https://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/5187824140681216/do-you-have-this-illness.
in my year of being on this forum, i have browsed many a disillusioned thread of ex-jehovah’s witnesses expressing similar symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder when detailing their awakening - my own story included.

You won't believe this ... Jehovah's rich blessing has befallen me !!!
by dubstepped inmy dad died a couple years back (not how you thought this would start, i know).
he was an elder, and a very emotionally abusive father, well before the point where he ever shunned me.
he died pretty much penniless, and never would buy life insurance or anything.

Yo dubstepped my man!, good on you Bruv, weirdly after leaving the Jw my annual income has nearly doubled and I haven't anything to attribute it to apart from business as usual! Now I been praying hard to uncle Satan to help me win lotto but I think he is just teasing me a bit and making my life easy but not so much where I can give work up and go full time apstoneering but I'm not complaining

JWs at the Movies
by Wake Me Up Before You Jo-Ho inso i was watching some of the dramas screened at the be courageous convention, and one caught my eye.. it's the scene where a group of jw teens are watching something deemed as "sinful" at the movie theaters.
there were only sound effects, so i decided to fill in the blanks.. https://vimeo.com/275184883.
bottom line: machine guns = bad.

So What Drastic Money Change is Next?
by OnTheWayOut inokay, they cheapened the product by getting rid of hardcover books.
they reduced printing of mags.
they drastically reduced the number of pieces of printed paper that members would "place" in people's hands in various ways, the biggest one being that they put them on a cart and don't encourage people to take them.they cut d.o.

Favourite Quirky / Low Budget / Non-Mainstream Movies
by Simon inso the recent topic about film franchises got me thinking.
sure, we all love the big budget, mainstream releases that are so successful they spawn never-ending (it sometimes seems) sequels.
we could watch marvel and star-wars movies for the rest of our lives (and we might just ...).. but y'know what i love?

SIMON a great low budget time travel movie is safety not guaranteed
Apart from being low budget and quirky it has the best ending!
