hmmm, formatting, thanks i'll try that next time. i originally wrote it out in much more detail but i pressed > backspace and it all vanished. lol
i did not look at the WT you quoted blondie thanks for that, but i had in my mind somewhere that that is how they reasoned on it, even so the scriptures are 'silent' on what Cornelius did with his military career. and its only the WT that change their beliefs after they have been chosen, they should not judge Cornelius on their own 'standards'.
reminds me of peter:
(Acts 10:13-15) 13 And a voice came to him: “Rise, Peter, slaughter and eat!” 14 But Peter said: “Not at all, Lord, because never have I eaten anything defiled and unclean.” 15 And the voice [spoke] again to him, the second time: “You stop calling defiled the things God has cleansed.”

i'm so curious, why they're not celebrating their birthdays?
is it just because jesus don't celebrate it and it's not written in the bible that they celebrated the birthday of jesus?
or is it written in the bible not to celebrate birthday?
they also forget that Joseph 'interpreted' the 2 dreams of the baker and cupbearer. the baker would be killed. it was actually part of Gods plan.
(Genesis
40:5-23) 5 And both of them proceeded to dream a dream, each one his own dream in the one night, each one his dream with its own interpretation, the cupbearer and the baker who belonged to the king of Egypt who were prisoners in the prison house. 6 When Joseph came in to them in the morning and saw them, why, here they were looking dejected. 7 And he began to inquire of the officers of Phar′aoh who were with him in the jail of his master’s house, saying: “For what reason are YOUR faces gloomy today?” 8 At this they said to him: “We have dreamed a dream, and there is no interpreter with us.” So Joseph said to them: “Do not interpretations belong to God? Relate it to me, please.” 9 And the chief of the cupbearers went on to relate his dream to Joseph and to say to him: “In my dream, why, here there was a vine before me. 10 And on the vine there were three twigs, and it was apparently sprouting shoots. Its blossoms pushed forth. Its clusters ripened their grapes. 11 And Phar′aoh’s cup was in my hand, and I proceeded to take the grapes and squeeze them out into Phar′aoh’s cup. After that I gave the cup into Phar′aoh’s hand.” 12 Then Joseph said to him: “This is its interpretation: The three twigs are three days. 13 In three days from now Phar′aoh will lift up your head and he will certainly return you to your office; and you will certainly give Phar′aoh’s cup into his hand, according to the former custom when you acted as his cupbearer. 14 Nevertheless, you must keep me in your remembrance as soon as it goes well with you, and you must, please, perform loving-kindness with me and mention me to Phar′aoh, and you must get me out of this house. 15 For I was in fact kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews; and here also I have done nothing at all for which they should put me in the prison hole.” 16 When the chief of the bakers saw that he had interpreted something good, he, in turn, said to Joseph: “I too was in my dream, and here there were three baskets of white bread upon my head, 17 and in the topmost basket there were all sorts of eatables for Phar′aoh, the product of a baker, and there were fowls eating them out of the basket on top of my head.” 18 Then Joseph answered and said: “This is its interpretation: The three baskets are three days. 19 In three days from now Phar′aoh will lift up your head from off you and will certainly hang you upon a stake; and the fowls will certainly eat your flesh from off you.” 20 Now on the third day it turned out to be Phar′aoh’s birthday, and he proceeded to make a feast for all his servants and to lift up the head of the chief of the cupbearers and the head of the chief of the bakers in the midst of his servants. 21 Accordingly he returned the chief of the cupbearers to his post of cupbearer, and he continued to give the cup into Phar′aoh’s hand. 22 But the chief of the bakers he hung up, just as Joseph had given them the interpretation. 23 However, the chief of the cupbearers did not remember Joseph and went on forgetting him.i'm so curious, why they're not celebrating their birthdays?

most jw's would agree with you vientotz.
there is nothing wrong with celebrating a birthday.
in fact JW's did celebrate their birthdays.
and jesus birthday.
this was finished by judge rutherford the president at the time. i think it was 1928-29 that it changed. suddenly everything became pagan!!!!
nobody today associates the 'customs' of birthday celebrations as taking part in a Pagan Ritual! unless you happen to be a pagan and believe that stuff.
it was all done and designed to keep JW's seperate from the 'world' and 'spiritually clean'.

the nosy elder at the congregation i attend until i can get out very soon (just quickly: born in, was headed towards unbaptized pub but changed my mind about that and baptism) pulled me aside and showed me the scripture about coming across the body of water and asking "what prevents me from getting baptized" and i really want a quick, preferably smart-ass reply the next time he puts me on the spot like that.. .
.
fire away!
If I recall correctly, the eunuch himself asked the question. There is a difference between, on one hand, wanting to get baptized (like the eunuch) and then taking the initiative to ask "what prevents me from doing it right here in this body of water?" and, on the other hand, someone asking you to provide reasons explaining why you haven't done it yet. It's two different dynamics. i like this one alot! and also 'jehovahs earthly organization' is not in matt 28: 19,20 |
i need your guys help.. some of you might know some of my past from other posts...but new life changes have happened to me.. i have recently joined the united states navy.
i was orginally going in as a nuclear engineer...i have instead opted for a much less boring life in the advanced electronics computer field (aecf) rate.
my father's side of the family (who has been out for 20+ years) are very excited and proud of me for my decision.
so sorry to hear your experience. i've been thinking on the same thing. check out my post on Cornelius. it was alot more detailed but i deleted it all. still the principal is their i believe.
why did jah & jesus approve of Cornelius, even pouring out HS before he was baptised, when he was serving in the military as a Roman Centurion?
cornelius recieved the holy spirit before he was baptised.
thus showing he had jah & jesus approval.
he also was visited by an angel to tell him so:.

“Your prayers and gifts of mercy have ascended as a remembrance before God.” The angel also told Cornelius to send to Joppa for Peter.—Ac 10:1-22.
Cornelius was a serving Roman Centurion, God approved of him and accepted him.
There is not a KH on this planet nor a Body Of Pharisees Elders that would let Cornelius run so much as a Microphone. His most likely outcome would be DF'd.
How many Bro/Sis have been told to find alternative employment? or face 'restrictions' 'deletions' or disfellowshiping. many times at great cost financially. many brothers/sis while being self employed have been told in the WT and by Elders that they could not contract or bid for jobs, but that same 'job' becomes ok if your working for somebody else or not self employed!
have they never read there own books:
***
. “For a certainty,” Peter exclaimed on that historic occasion, “I perceive that God is not partial, but in every nation the man that fears him and works righteousness is acceptable to him.” (Ac 10:34, 35)
what other examples can you think of that would not be allowed today?
