I've bad JW dreams even as a JW! They seem to be the same as they were then, usually I'm wearing something inappropriate (like I'm missing clothing) and I'm trying to hide it and I'm at the back of the KH and a certain elder I used to know would be giving the talk and telling everyone to stay away from me and look at what sister so-and-so (me) has on, the BLATANT disrespect she has towards Jeeehohvah!! It sounds funny to me now but I can assure you those dreams have always given me the creeps. I have ones like those or that I'm about to get DF'd or hauled into the elder's room and such.

by lilbluekitty ini just recieved a "care package" from my mother (i'm inactive, haven't been to a meeting in a few months but haven't specifically said to her that i don't want to be a jw anymore) and in it, among other things, are 2 new brochures (one is simplified) called listen to god and live forever.. has anyone else seen these?
i think you can get them in pdf form on the jw.org website.

I saw several pictures that bothered me, like depictions of Satan as an angel and then later on and the demons. Several of them in one publication? What is up with that? Is it me or does the borg talk about that stuff way too much?

How many?...
by tenyearsafter ini couldn't find if this has been discussed in the past, but do we have any idea how many former posters/apostates from this forum have actually returned to the jw's?
i am not talking about those that were reinstated for family reasons, but rather, those that actually had a change of heart and "repented" to become active jw's again?
i can't imagine it is many, but would be curious if anyone knows individuals that have gone back because they truly believed again?

Why, do you believe again?

Kingdumb maladies stuck in your head...
by Leto ini had a dream last night that i went to a meeting.
the speaker announced we were going to sing the "we're jehovah's witnesses" song, to which i said an audible "dear god" which got a bunch of dirty looks from other people sitting by me.
so now i'm awake, sipping my coffee, and i have "we're jehovah's witnesses" stuck in my head.

I currently have Move Ahead (the old version) stuck in my head, kill me now
I even made up new lyrics for it on the Yuku forum under "Humor"

I sort of faded/stopped going. I had been pulling disappearing acts for a few months with more and more time in between each time I was there until I just stopped going. The first few times I stopped going I got a lot of phone calls, now I've been gone 4 months and the last phone call I got was about 2 or 3 weeks ago. I'm not sure if they'll keep calling or not but if anyone leaves magazines in my door I'm going to post a sign on the door that says something like "Save a tree, don't leave JW magazines" lol. Either that or No Tresspassing.
I think once I've been gone 6 months they may call a lot since I'll officially be inactive but maybe they'll just forget me. Dunno. Don't care as long as they don't harass me like they were before.

Embarrassed As A Witness

i remember working with my brother out and service and he found an interested person.

Someone mentioned they didn't realize before that Protestants really know their Bibles.
It was a total eye-opener when I married my husband (born-again) to see him enjoying his reading of the scriptures every night before bed and it made me feel horrible (when I was still active) that he read his Bible more than I read mine! And he knew so much, without anyone really having to explain it to me. My parents always told me I couldn't just read the Bible on it's own, that I had to read the publications. As soon as I switched to the New International Version, I've had no problems whatsoever understanding what things mean and I think, OMG, if I had only read another version of the Bible back when I was having trouble understanding all that old-fashioned language in the NWT!
Anyway, I'd been embarassed about being a JW for years, right around the time I started back in public school in 5th grade. I used to cringe every time my mom wanted to take my sister and I grocery shopping after the meetings and we were stuck in our hideously embarassing clothes with normal kids staring at us wearing their normal clothes.
I was painfully embarassed at field service and the one time I ever aux. pioneeered I managed to do it by counting time while we took our coffee breaks and stuff. I HATED the way we did service in the French group I'd joined. Knock on the door. "Who is it?" "Jehovah's Witnesses." "Who?" etc., you get the point. Then they'd open the door. "Can I help you?" (in English.) Me: "Um, does anyone speak French?" Them: "Uh, no." Me: ... The sister next to me, glaring at me for not shoving Bible verses in French down their throats. Yeah, that was a fun month. =/

Weird things JWs can't own or wear
by lilbluekitty inalso posted on the yuku forum.. i thought it might be amusing to make a list of things i remember when i was a dub that we couldn't have or own or wear.
(some of these things vary by where you live, in other places dubs have them, it just depends).
obviously the list goes on forever, but feel free to add things.

Yeah flip-flops at meetings were a huge topic where I grew up in New England. They were considered inappropriate footwear because bros. decided they only belonged at the beach. Basically any thong-type sandal was not allowed.

Yeah stockings are required up north at least (New England area) even if the temperatures reach the 90s or more. When my mom pioneered one year when I was a kid, during the summer one day she just ripped off her stockings and told the sister she was with that if it offended her that my mom didn't want to die of heat stroke then maybe she'd like to work with someone else. The sister she was with ripped off her stockings too =D
The worst thing, is in the winter up there, my sister and I were still forced to go out in service no matter what unless it was snowing (because no one would open their doors lol, smart people!) with skirts and thin little stockings on. Finally my mom felt bad for us and started letting us wear long coats with leggings on underneath our skirts.
Do sisters in Alaska and Russia and stuff have to wear skirts out in service, I wonder??? Poor things!!
