What Are Your Hobbies Now That You're Out?

i've been getting really into cooking lately!

i do have most of the same hobbies i had before, (i've always been into art and reading and watching movies and travelling) only now i can do them whenever and don't have to worry about meetings getting in the way or people telling me i spend too much time with "recreation.

I've thought about getting a little handgun myself, (many of you have been talking about guns) just because I've always wanted one, and I wouldn't mind learning to shoot one, though I would have to have earplugs and a very small gun as I am petite. Plus I live in TX, and everyone has a gun! LOL.

I wouldn't mind getting some more piercings (I only have one hole in each ear which I got done after I decided I wasn't going to one more meeting) it might be cool to have my cartilage on my upper ear pierced (though I hear it hurts like hell and you have to get it done right or the cartilage will shatter, eek!). If I wasn't trying so hard to get a job lately, I would definitely dye my hair blue. I've always wanted either blue or bright screaming red hair.

I mostly posted it for the benefit of those who feel guilty celebrating holidays such as Christmas, I know JWs won't listen to reason.

And yes, WTWizard, those angels really were celebrating the first Christmas and I have noticed that about most JW doctrines that they flip-flop on. It's pretty sad.

they can be painful to bear, but sometimes that is part of life in a setting with many people and their various personalities.. it was my examination of evidence that did lead me to leave jehovahs witnesses.

they, of course, had failed to bear proper witness to his name.

This is very well-written, sd-7! I completely agree with it, I have been sitting here nodding in agreement with almost everything you said. I espescially like the part about reporting field service hours and such, it is quite similar to the illegal census David took and I've told people I stopped turning in my time because I felt like only God should know that information, based on the scripture (in Matthew?) about people who do their acts of righteousness in public so that they can get praise for themselves.

Anyway, bravo, I really hope you get this published, I already want my pastor to see this and know of other people who might enjoy this as well.

Basically everything that happened since the early 80s when I was born. 9/11 definitely made the biggest impact in my mind though, I was a junior in high school then.

I was definitely forced and was physically abused by my mother if I didn't want to go to a meeting or forgot to study. I did not have a choice so those "make the truth your own" talks were ridiculous to me because I had no choice in the matter.

Okay that is the most retarded thing I have ever heard. Mankkeli, apparently you haven't heard of HIPAA laws (in the US at least) where only doctors are authorized to know or see medical records about someone else and the organization would be violating those laws. Seriously, if I had some terrible illness, I've authorized only my husband to know anything or discuss anything, even my own MOTHER can't know if I have a sniffle even if I don't choose to tell her. RETARDED and you are an idiot for trying to freak people out.

Have any other religion flip-flopped doctrinally?

i am attempting to see if a comparison can be made to other religions.

obviously we all know that jw's have fip-flopped on many doctrinal issues.

but are there any other religions and cults that have done this?

I don't know much about it but Catholics have had some flip-flops, I believe the pope said condoms are now okay for male prostitutes or something because of HIV. Also I believe they just changed something about their Mass.

Youngest person disfellowshipped -- ever?

I know a guy that was df'd at 15, got reinstated only 5 months later. I say only because my dad got df'd (as an adult) and was df'd for 2 years before they would reinstate him. Though that's a bit off topic. Anyway the guy was 15, he still seems bitter about the "truth" but says he came back into it because "there's nothing out there in the world." He seems to be a pretty depressed guy.
