I wasn't allowed to be in sports or any after school activities til high school and I was only allowed in 2 clubs: French Club and Equestrian Club but not on the days when there were meetings. I think my sister was in some sort of art club and in band but only during school, not after school. I never understood why our mom let us go. No sports though, not that we were that interested in that anyway.

Wizard of Oz
by dontplaceliterature ini know plenty of jehovah's witnesses who own and love this movie.
in addition to that, i know some who are big fans of the musical, wicked.
i suppose anything having to do with these will be lumped into the garbage by end of summer?.

I know plenty of JWs who love Lord Of The Rings too, "oh it's okay to watch, there's no magic in it..." right, even though Gandalf is a wizard and he battles the demon Balrog...and there's elves and dwarves and all that...

Did you go out door to door after you knew you were finished.
by GeneM ini did for a year.
i falsified reports, had fake rv's, told groups i was meeting up with other groups and went home just to show a presense.
i wasn't fading though, because of my situation i had to play like everything was fine.

I was mentally off service for a long time, before I even stopped believing the lie, I just had it and was getting burned out in service...once I was reproved I drifted off for awhile but still believed and barely went in service, then when I was finally waking up, I barely went. I did a brief stint of going out on a somewhat regular basis after this annoying woman wanted me to go with her all the time but I almost never talked at the door, I think I just read the Bible Stories book to a little girl once about Abraham or something. Finally I just stopped going out and eventually quit meetings. I just never went back after that, it's been almost a year now since I last went to a meeting. W00T!
Oh, I faked service hours a few times at the end too to keep them off my back, then I got tired of lying and just didn't answer their calls anymore.

Kids on Leashes at Conventions.
by Diest indid you ever see those parents with kids on leashes at conventions?
i always disliked it and thought it was wierd/lazy...granted i have never been a parent so maybe i dont know.

My mom used to put my sister and I on those stupid leashes for couple conventions in the early 90s or late 80s...it was embarassing and weird. My mom was emotionally and physically abusive though so maybe it was part of her problems that she did that to us.

Jehovah's Witnesses And The Paranormal
by Cold Steel ini understand that the jehovah's witnesses are paranoid when it comes to the paranormal.. how far do the roots of this paranoia go?
has anyone ever had any personal paranormal experiences or know of anyone who has (first hand)?.
and what are some of the more popular stories that get retold in jw circles?.

Visions and Revelation
by Cold Steel inin the book of joel, it's prophesied that people would have visions and dreams in the last days, and that they would prophesy.. how does the church react to people who claim to have inspired dreams or visions, and to prophesy?.

That or they're considered demonized and sincee they don't do exorcisms, they don't do anything about that except avoid you or tell you you must have some evil object in your home or you're doing something bad and it will stop if you stop doing whatever it is. They don't believe in the Gifts of the Holy Spirit either like speaking in tongues, healing, etc. They say those things have been "done away with" after the 1st century based on some scripture that says that eventually those things would cease, though I may be misquoting, as it is after midnight and I'm sleepy.

Just do a search on here for "JW Urban Myths." Smurfs, anyone??
Really, they're HORRIBLY paranoid. I honestly don't know a group of people more preoccupied with worries about this stuff. I'm not saying I don't believe in it but if you truly have faith in God why worry all the time?
Where I used to live, in New England, a lof of things were considered pagan/demonized: dream-catchers, wind chimes, those Magic trading cards young boys used to collect, Pokemon, Harry Potter, Lord Of The Rings (how??), Yin-yang symbols, peace signs, crosses, Jesus and/or Mary statues, anything Catholic so one would want to avoid their "horribly pagan" churches, totem poles and other Native American items, anything "false-religious" like Buddahs or most Asian stuff, Celtic stuff (I once, as a JW had a silver ring with Celtic knots on it. I had nightmares the night I got it, told my mom about the dream and she went on a witch hut looking for items we bought recently and it was concluded my ring was the source of the bad dream and SHE THREW MY $20 RING AWAY, that I paid for!!), some insane JWs even thought DISNEY stuff was evil! Seriously I was babysitting a little girl and her grandmother was pissed at me for talking about The Hunchback Of Notre Dame movie because it had a Gypsy in it. Seriously!! The list goes on and on and is different depending on where JWs live. Oh, yoga is considered very bad, they had some Awake or WT article about it. I started doing yoga myself and it doesn't bother me. It's just stretching and breathing.

Guns And Self Defense??
by Cold Steel ini know jehovah's witnesses can have firearms for defense, but does the church ever attempt to set guidelines on the use of deadly force?
also, are there jurisdictions in the church where handgun ownership is frowned upon?.

JWs aren't allowed to be competitive and their recreation "must be wholesome"...i.e. playing Kingdom songs (their horrid worship music) and reading Awake magazines. I mean yeah most JWs at least watch TV and stuff but really by the book there's not much they're allowed to do for fun.
Yes, they really prefer bad things to happen to people...they call it being "faithful in what is least' or something. IMO God wants us to use common sense. Don't purposely kill someone or try not to but if they have a gun to your kid's head what else can you do? I'd say God would not be happy (to say the least) if your kid did get killed and you did nothing.

How Does One Get Into The GB?
by Cold Steel inif one wanted to get onto the governing body, how would one go about it?
and who is currently the head of the gb?
how often do occupancies arise?.

I don't know much about it except you have to "prove" that you're "annointed", you have to be "exemplary", a male of course , probably raised in or been in for a long time, know the right people, go to bethel, piosneer, etc.
To become an elder, I'm not sure, since I'm a woman, but I believe they appoint you, you can't ask for the appointment. Each congregation usually has somewhere around 5-7 elders, though I've heard of both more and less, I think it depends on how many people are in the congregation.
And finally, do you mean who makes the doctrines? That's the GB. Interpreting? Not sure what you mean. Again, I'm "just" a female so "what do I know." Grrrrr.
