When You Were A JW Did You Really Understand The Religion and What You Were Getting Into?
by minimus inmany witnesses in my opinion know nothing about the religion.
they don’t understand the history, the doctrines or the bible.
many people become jws because they were raised as witnesses so they take the plunge.

I do appreciate everyone’s thoughts and input , it really helps. I have read each and everyone. I really like the idea of volunteering for a cause that I believe in and where I can meet some good people to associate with at times. I will read these again when I am off or work.
Thanks a bunch

Hello All ,
Thank you all die words of encouragement , stories , and some great words of advice. The best I can do is take care of myself and my loved ones. I don’t want to get caught up in a constant state of anger as that would not help as mentioned and I agree. I can only control now and not yesterday. At least I was raised with parents who loved me and in a part of the world that was “ free “ .
Thanks for for helping me out

Thank you Star Trek Angel and Diogenesister,
Your comments are appreciated. I can relate to PTSD moments and I think mine are bad when and if I see my kids being affected.

Good morning,
I am just wondering how you have constructively worked through the emotions of waking up? I am trying hard to be positive, and I know life is a gift. I am glad I woke up now, but I wish it was 20 years ago. I get overwhelmed and angry at times that my parents and ultimately myself were (are) so indoctrinated. Seems like I have wasted so much time ,and energy on worthless pursuits in the JW cult. I also have many things to be thankful for and I reflect on those things as well to keep my spirits positive. Its hard to recognize that my entire world revolved around a "lie" and that it's expected that I indoctrinate my kids into the same crap. I have good days and bad days, but today is not a good day-I am trying to make it one.
I have started to do more things for myself, and have been speaking up about the "Borg"with those around me in small ways. I really really feel some of my feelings are because " I have been never able to be myself" in my entire life. I mean to honestly say " I do not believe in the JW theology" and have a constructive conversation with the PIMI is impossible and that's my entire family. Its so frustrating, my son asked me if I believe in demons the other day. He is 8 years old, and I said absolutely not. Religion is so damaging to kids and their developing brain that it makes me physically ill to hear the indoctrination especially to little kids. What other kid in the world would ask a question like this? For the most part an 8 year old outside of the WT recognize that demons are not real( Halloween ), - Part of the FOG -it just amazes me how early this crap starts.
Have a great day

Blood doctrine question
by AuntBee inwhen witnesses go on and on about bloodless medicine, they often imply that this will work in all situations.
do they really believe this, because it's what the society has led them to believe?
are they just trying to divert their own mind, from the reality of blood deaths, that still happen?

Some more clarity ,
The person in charge of the “ Bloodless Surgery Medicine program “ at the hospital I used to work at was an Elder with no medical training. When JWs came into ICU they would request to see him. We would page him and he would come , talk with the patient, and put a “ No Blood” sign above their bed and a no - blood ID band on them. He was on call 24/7 - he would go on and on about how great some Doctors were , but I knew different. Sad that he had the confidence to speak of traetments and Doctors with no medical training. He was more of a Salesman and Spy to make sure these poor JWs would not get blood even if they needed it.
Newsflash-
As an overall rule most Drs and especially ICU Doctors recognize that administration of blood products are of a last resort.Contrary to “ WT “ demonization of people pushing blood , todays MDs allow Hemoglobin to drop to around 7.0 before blood is spoken about even by nursing staff. ( Unless Trauma , active bleeding , unstable , etc ) The medical community recognizes that all blood products slow healing , increase mortality and length of stay in a hospital.Massive trasfusions can lead to medical problems. Its been my experience over 15 years “ no one pushes blood “ and I have actually got transfusion orders cancelled after speaking with the MD when appropriate( pt stabilized ). The WT tries to spin the “ Blood pushing “ worldly Doctors. JWs and non JWs get treated the same overall in hospitals. I take care of open heart Patients I have called a Doctor on vacation to get blood for a patient that really needed it ( non - JW) as the PA / NP would not give me an order even with a Hemoglobin of 6.8. Most JWs prior to surgery may have gotten Iron Sucrose and pro crit injections if only warranted by labs. I would personally take blood if needed to save my life - no more martyrs!
I love the subject

Hello,
I agree with Steve2-Overall Blood is used to deliver Oxygen to tissues and organs. Without this, the organs and tissues die. With acute blood loss( Trauma, etc) blood and its clotting factors are the only product that can usually save your life. Their are 2 types ( overall types of blood loss) Chronic and acute. In chronic blood loss the body has a chance to adapt to the lower hemoglobin( to a point), but in acute massive blood loss the body cannot adjust to the loss of the blood quickly enough to save organs and a life. People are regularly allowed to drop to a hemoglobin of around 7.0 before blood is talked about. This varies with clinical presentation and if the patient is unstable hemodynamically or + for an MI ( heart attack) or really really sick. Blood is needed in massive acute blood loss, as there is no other product that can deliver oxygen to tissues and organs. Without this , a person can die as the amount of oxygen delivered is to enough for the body. I have have taken care of people who would not take blood who were both sedated and paralyzed. This was used to lower the metabolic need for oxygen and in turn hopefully save the persons life as long as they were no longer bleeding. In chronic anemia the body has a chance to adjust to the "lows"of the hemoglobin, as long as it happens over an extended period of time- the body can compensate to a large degree. I have had patients with a hemoglobin of 5 who were walking around and not feeling symptoms, although that does not mean their tissues and organs were not compromised. There are products that help increase the volume-LR, 0.9% NS, Albumin, but none of these products can deliver oxygen to dying organs. Procrit is an injection used to stimulate RBC production but is used in chronic anemia. So in a nutshell-
Blood is the only product that can transport oxygen in acute blood loss anemia and is the only product that can save your life if it comes to that point.

Hello,
Many great comments and I thought I would ad mine in an effort to help anyone fully understand the
" Bloodless" medicine phrase used by so many JW's. My background is an RN in ICU/CCU/ and trauma. I have about 15 years experience in nursing and most of that in critical care. I have worked in a hospital where we had a
" Bloodless" Surgery Program". I will do my best to clarify what this means and does not mean.
What is does not mean:
You are not getting anything special, nothing. Look up the MD and see what his or her experience is and how he or she rates for successful surgeries and infection rates. This is more important than anything. You have to do your own due diligance and not rely upon anyone else to make that decision for you. I have personally seen many JW's steered to Dr's who are below average just because they are on a " blood less surgery and or treatment list. "
I find the phrase is a "Catch Phrase" used to generate revenue and " steer" the JW's to certain Dr's and hospitals.
The bloodless medicine coordinator at our hospital had 0 experience and no back ground for the job he held. He was on call and came to the hospital to see his "patients" ( his words not mine.) I find it disturbing that a person with no medical experience at all can even step foot into a hospital and see really sick patients and offer suggestions when he has no idea what the hell he is talking about. As a professional clinician I found it sad that do many JW's looked up to this man as their savior. He looked at labs, charts, and knew their medical background. He has no right to that information, yet many would see him as a professional and gladly give up their right to medical privacy.
