Smiddy, i don't know the answer to your question but i can give you an example of a situation that wouldn't show up in statistics. My parents were in a head-on car accident in 1948 where my mother nearly died due to the refusal of blood. She was just too tough to die. How many others suffered near death experiences due to refusal of blood?

Is their anyway of quantifying how many Jehovah`s Witnesses have died due to the no blood policy since the 1940`s ?
by smiddy inthis is something i would be most interested in ,especially concerning the number of children involved ,where their deaths were veiwed as martyrs of the faith.
as an aside i would wonder how many parents who supported their childs decision to not take blood now have reservations about that decision.. surely their must be some way of identyfying how many adults have died due to their beleifs as a jehovah`s witness in abstaining from blood since the 1940`s till now .
smiddy.

00Dad, My heart goes out to you. Having a beloved child shun you is so painful and cruel. I don't know the circumstances of your divorce with their mother but the thought occured to me that your boys might be feeling protective toward her. They may be embracing her religion to try to show love and support if they think you "wronged" her. Just having their father leave the house is enough to make some kids angry enough to want to strike back so to speak.
My son was 17 when his father and I divorced. He wanted to take on the role of "man of the house" often encouraged by others at the KH. He was angry at his father for what he saw as abandonment. He was a true source of comfort for me at this difficult time and I must admit I drew comfort from my sons "loyality" toward me.
Your ex is undoubtedly delighted at your sons loyality toward her and the WTS. Besides thinking that they will gain Gods approval, therefore eternal life, it is a form of "winning". Winning the divorce war. No matter how much she may dispise you now, she lost much. She lost her family, her provider, her partner, her confidant etc. etc. When her sons pick her company over yours, her religion over yours, she gets the validation she desperately wants and needs. However, things can change. They did in my case. What drove my son right back into the waiting arms of his father? (who was also DFed) Was it a change of heart about the WTS? Religion? Absolutely not!
It was the fact that I found ANOTHER man to love who loved me and married me. Another rooster in the barnyard! Now, in his eyes, I didn't NEED his loyality and protection anymore. Even though he HATED the idea of me being with a new man, he felt free to see his fathers side of things. He and his sister moved in with their father the minute we returned from our honeymoon!
The best possible thing for your relationship with your sons to resume would be for your ex to move on and remarry. To need them less in their eyes. Do you know anyone who you could fix her up with???

Well Jam, there is so much in your story to observe. Aren't you glad your son was smart enough to leave and develop the skills/education to land a good job?
regarding Phizzy's comment: haven't you noticed that most of the most uber zealous Jw's are doing the catholic equivelent of pennance? Some hidden (or not so hidden) sin drives them to try harder-do more?
I think I might start a thread asking that question.

My 14yr. old daughter started "early college" this week
by Indian Larry ini finally found one good thing about growing up a witness and not getting to go to college.
because neither my wife nor myself ever went past high school that makes our daughter eligible for a program sponsored by the bill and melinda gates foundation.
she is 14. in 4 years from now when she should be graduating high school she will have two years of college under her belt, at no cost to me.

Lost my best friend (man's best friend)
by Coffee House Girl injust wanted to write a tribute to my best friend whom i lost last week, it was one of the most painful experiences i have ever been through.
i have no children, my puppy was my child.
i got him from a golden retriever rescue organization when he was 2. he was recovering from a car accident, still a bit skiddish, but he chose me to take him home (the foster mom said that he never responded to anyone like he did me).. he was always happy to see me, greet me with a toy in his mouth, he never judged me, never cared whether i was "bad association", he was always there when i needed to smile and remembe that i was not alone in the world.

CHG, I was unable to reply when i first read your post because i was too choked up. So terribly sorry you had to say goodby to your dear furbaby. When my son died I had a 4month old puppy. He totally saved my life. I couldn't succumb to my grief because I HAD to take care of him. He was so goofy and innocent he made me laugh every day-even when i didn't feel like it. Now he's getting older and your post reminded me that before too long I too, will have to say goodby to my friend, protector, and pseudo-son.
I hope, in time, you can find another pet that completes your loving family.

I'm not sure whether or not a person would have been disfellowshipped in the late 60's and 70's for saying Armageddon wouldn't arrive in that century. But I do know for SURE that he would have been hauled in the back room and told never to say such a thing again. And if he did, he positively would have been DFed as at that point he would be considered rebellious and insubordinate. Apostacy would not have to enter the picture at this point. Once the Elders tell a person to stop doing something, ANYTHING (right or wrong) he must stop or he positively WILL be DFed.
To illistrate the furvor leading up to 1975: My husband built a home for us in '73. He was told he was not exemplary and could not be appointed a servant because he was not living like the "End" was imminant. In the late 70's he built another house for us that was bigger and better than the 1st. This time however, it was ok since 75 had come and gone, he was appointed an Elder. The "Holy Spirit must have changed it's mind. LOL

I think it is possible to apologise to her without saying you are wrong. Balamsass and I do it all the time. One or the other of us says, "I'm sorry we had words" or "I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings" or "I should have been more tactful in the way I expressed myself" or "Can we agree to disagree?"
These kinds of statements convey you are trying to make peace. If the other person is loving, he/she will accept the gesture and move on.

Cofty, You very well may be right if there has been NUUU light on the subject since I did my thorough research about 10 yrs ago.
