One of the most horrifing aspects of Jaycee's ordeal is that while Gulardo was in jail for 30 days his Jehovah's Witnesses wife held her captive for him. She is as reprehensible as he is.

Were You Punished by Your Government for Not Being a Part of Military Service?
by Diest ini never cease to be amazed by the sacrifice that the wts foolishly requires.
one of the larger sacrifices is that of personal freedom that has been demanded of young men and women around the globe.
many are sent to prison for several years and have a felony on their record for life.

My uncle did 5 years hard time in prison during WWII. He was a gentle soul and suffered brutal treatment. He was never the same after his release. I'm sure he suffered from PTSD among other serious emotional problems. His younger bro. enlisted and became the family "black sheep".
A number of friends and family went to prision during Viet Nam. However, the conditions were not as bad as during WWII. The ones i knew went to Safford Az where the JWs got to be together and usually went home in 18 months or less. The Lottery saved my 1st hubby. He drew 360 out of 366 in the 1st round. He quit pioneering the next day. LOL
Like someone said, Pioneering helped much more in WWII than Viet Nam to get a minesters classification. I still have the "Consolation" mag from 1941 that listed the names of the brothers who the WTS helped to get their minesters classification. My father, my stepfather, his brother, hubbys uncle etc. etc were all listed.

Outsmarthesystem makes a good point. The vast majority think the WT$ is Gods organization- warts and all. Changing doctrines and harsh control tactics often bother JWs but to leave would mean they left God. They meekly "wait on Jehovah" to set things strait. They don't have to believe everything is true to be the "Truth". This disconnect is evidence of the effectiveness of WT indoctrination. They just have to believe it is the modern day ark, the only way to assure salvation for themselves and those they love.
I am more and more convinced that the GB know that a lot of what they teach is wrong but they don't care. It doesn't matter as long as they can manipulate the flock to stay loyal.(and of course, contribute) Loyality is emphasized over accuracy.

11-year-old niece was told by JW grandmother that she shouldn't play in band
by keyser soze ini haven't posted here in a while, but i thought this was worth mentioning, and i just wanted to vent about it.. my brother and sister-in-law, who are now divorced, bought my niece a clarinet about a year ago, so she could play in the band at school.
she loves it more than anything in the world.
one day last week, her grandmother found out about this and got all upset about it.

I agree with Billythex, that the uwritten rules of JWs are inforced at the sole discretion of the Elders of a particular cong. Some Elders are more rigid than others and many have their own opinions which often influence whether they allow something or not.
Generally speaking, most elders allow band, chorus, sports, drama, etc. when it is offered as a school subject during school hours. When it is EXTRA Curricular (sp?) when done AFTER SCHOOL, they highly discourage and somtimes actually forbid. The reasoning is that the child is unecessilarily exposed to "bad associations",competion, patriotic and Holliday music, etc. Of course, the age-old his/her time is better spent in the minestry, studying BS usually comes into play as well.
When I was a JW kid in the '60s I was allowed to take Concert Choir as an elective in both middle and High school. The trouble for me came when the choir performed Christmas and Patriotic songs during the school assemblies. Not being able to participate severly hurt my grade and I ended up dropping out. The band performed at all the football games and because they are after school, the JW kids I knew didn't join.

Elders are the main administrators of dicipline among Jws. Occasionally, Circuit or District overseers become involved-especially if one or more Elders are the accused. The manual on how to conduct these judicial matters comes from the WBTS.

One of the most important requirements of being an Elder is to be "an example to the flock". A wedding held at another church is taboo. A wedding where one is/was raised a JW to a nonbeliever is also taboo. A wedding where a disfellowshipped person is in the wedding party=taboo. Even if his own child is getting married if one or more of these situations is the case an Elder who attends the wedding can, and most likely will be removed.

Is their anyway of quantifying how many Jehovah`s Witnesses have died due to the no blood policy since the 1940`s ?
by smiddy inthis is something i would be most interested in ,especially concerning the number of children involved ,where their deaths were veiwed as martyrs of the faith.
as an aside i would wonder how many parents who supported their childs decision to not take blood now have reservations about that decision.. surely their must be some way of identyfying how many adults have died due to their beleifs as a jehovah`s witness in abstaining from blood since the 1940`s till now .
smiddy.

Another statistic that wouldn't show up would be: The children who WOULD HAVE DIED but for the fact that the authorties made the child a "ward of the court" thereby taking the decision out of the hands of the parents. This happened in my family. The baby was given blood against the JW parents wishes and the child lived and thrived. The Elder father told me he was GLAD the decision was taken out of his hands and it turned out well for his child.
