Hi sowhatnow, a while back I started a thread titled "Were you "diciplined" after the meetings?" Back in the 50's when I was little I was the only youngster in the cong. I would get the look and a wisper "wait till we get home." Then an unbearable feeling of dread set in as I knew what awaited me after the meeting. My dad didn't want the others to know he beat his toddler with a belt and he didn't want my screams to make him look bad as he was the PO. So that phrase is a sad one for me to this day.

Did you ever actually believe the JW fantasy version of "Paradise"?
by Darth Fader The Sequel ini am sure this topic has probably been discussed many times before but,......... i would like reassurance that i am not the only one who gagged every time i heard a jw pontificating on their fantasy version of what "paradise" will be like.
particularly when it comes to the animals.
more specifically, that the animals will all become vegetarians.

As a born in I believed in a paradise earth the same as I believed the sky is blue and and grass is green. Duh.... Jehovah could and would satisfy the desire of every living thing. That worked great for me until It was brought out in some talk that there would have to be a lot of oversight after the big A by the "Princes"/Elders. After the clean up they would assign where we would live etc. Whaaaattttt??? He continued, "If you don't get along with ALL your brothers you might be in for a rude awakening. You may be assigned to live next to the one you dislike." Oh noooooooooo!!!! I was in the same cong with some in-laws I detest and and the feeling is mutual. Now I 'm told some sadistic Elder is going to teach me a lesson in paradise by making me misrable?? This rediculous talk actually helped me think. Hmmmmm

?? Question for those that have successfully faded/are out:
by Darth Fader The Sequel inquestion: can any of you that have successfully faded out of the jw world without being df'd or da'd relate to me/us how you were able to maintain at least one or a few of your "still in" friends or family?
(and even if you were df'd or da'd and still maintained some relationships, how did that go?).
obviously, the truly demented, sick and twisted (and highly effective) policies and structure of the wtbt$ to set up a system by which anyone that chooses to no longer believe or participate must be treated as "mentally diseased" and a pariah by their own friends and family is the hands down, numero uno reason why many hundreds of thousands and possibly millions of jw's do not leave.

I hate injustice as well. It is especially unjust that a dub is never allowed to simply stop believing the GB speaks for God and quit.

How long does it take before the coast is clear? I'm not sure it ever is completely clear. But the more time that passes the more likely you will be left alone. A lot will depend on how your family is viewed by your elders and how you behave in public. Let me explain:If an elder in your hall has a beef with you he will try harder to get rid of you. OTOH, if one or more elders is particularly fond of you they will try harder to drag you back. Best case senario is if the elders are worried what you might do if cornered by them (lawsuit, letters to CO/Branch, knowledge of wrongdoing by said elder/elders and their families) you get the picture. By public behavior I mean attending holliday activities, decorating for them, pictures or statements on social media JW's would find objectionable. Political involvement etc. etc. Saying anything that even hints at "apostasy" to another dub or family member. This is the part I have the most trouble with. No matter what you choose DF, DA, or fade, there are consequences that acompany each of them. In a fade you give up your personal freedom in order to keep a few friends and family. There is NO easy way out.

Why WT reform would never work
by JimmyPage ini used to think how great it would be if the wt finally made long overdue changes.
higher education would no longer be frowned upon.
men could have beards.

Jimmy, if Watchtower made all the changes you listed as well as made it ok to question the GB, research doctrines and quoted sources, leave without any stigma, then it wouldnt be a cult but just another garden variety religion. The hook with JW's is the paradise earth- the carrot that makes the followers put up with the rest. Once you realize there is no Santa Claus/paradise earth why bother with reform?

Elder ignores me at Walgreens here in Milwaukee.
by Joliette ina month ago i went to walgreens to get some snacks and a newspaper.

Joilette, I'm sorry this happened to you. Obviously the "grapevine" is alive and well in Watchtowerland.

by Crazyguy inin another thread a sister is being told that babylon the great fell in 1918 but all growing up i was taught that babylon the great was about to be destroyed by the un.

As per Rev 18:4 (if I remember right) I got out of her about 2 1/2 years ago. This scripture was pounded into the JW brain as long as I can remember. The society also said (I forgot which publication) that Babylon the Great also fell in the sense that her "waters dried up" meaning the doctrines and edicts coming from the churches no longer influenced its members. Kinda like JW's huh?
