what sort of reactions have you gotten when talking to other jw when telling them the "truth about the truth"?
by AmIright inits funny ive read some stories on here about how they have become so infuriated by what logic dictates as being true and their own denying of it because it completely screws up their belief and shows how hypocritical it is xd some look like a nuclear reactor about to blow xd.
share you experiences here :) .

I have shared a few of my "true feelings: and mistreatment with only 2 of my closest JW friends.
The first sister is a model JW who comes from an exemplary family full of elders and COs. Her husband is a prominent local elder. They have been to Gilead, served where the "need is great", reg pioneered, you name it. I was close to her because she didn't have a hypocritical or judgmental bone in her body- extraordinarily loving to all. Interestingly, neither of her 2 grown children are active. In fact one was DFed for years and married someone at a Catholic church! The other was constantly in the "back room" and eventually faded.
When I briefly let her know what "stumbled" me her reaction was: Her face grew pale, she became agitated and upset and simply said, "Don't tell xxxxxx!!! (her daughter).
The other sister, the personification of love and tolerance is a convert. Incredibly intelligent but indoctrinated at a vulnerable time in her life. Being the only JW in her entire family she has always "done her own thing" often breaking witness rules at holidays, birthdays etc. She never pressured her children to be JWs and they aren't. In the past she admitted she disagrees with the blood issue and disfellowshipping. Yet, when I confided that I am no longer a JW in any way, she also seemed upset and her question was, "So are you an Athiest?" Sigh.....

Is Larry Graham an Elder?
by ShirleyW ini think he is, but i"m not too sure.
just wondering because looking at that purple pimp outfit with hat that he wore to prince's memorial, i wonder if he ever gave a talk wearing the same outfit, when i've read here that some brothers were talked to for wearing a pastel colored shirt while giving a talk..

If Prince had an addiction to prescriptions drugs, it's a personal matter but if I want to grow a beard or attend college, it's not.
by ToesUp ininteresting article i found about prince and the jw religion.
i guess they are trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.
i find it disturbing that the elder stated if prince had an addiction to prescription drugs, that is a personal matter but the hundreds of intrusive jw rules like going to college (not scriptural) and growing a beard (also not scriptural) are not also considered a personal choice.

Just like everything else in dubland whether or not a person is disciplined for some infraction of the "rules" depends on which elders are assigned to the case and how the accused is perceived by them. For example:
The wife of a kind well liked elder in my hall became addicted to prescription pain killers. I had no idea until another sister told me that said elder and his wife had been to dinner and the sister found her (the wife) raiding her medicine cabinet!! It came out that the addicted sister was stealing painkillers from every home she visited in multiple congregations!!
How was she dealt with by the elders? Glad you asked. PRIVATELY reproved. They decided she's simply a nut and felt sorry for her husband who btw did not loose his position over it.
In many congregations she would have been DFed and hubby would be fired. It's a crap shoot.
Needless to say, there are few rich and famous JW's. The organization for various reasons has shifted it's focus to gathering money. It follows that there would be strong reluctance to discourage/discipline such ones.

The Prince conundrum
by ElderEtta in2 questions remain in the passing of brother prince:.
will an autopsy, that won't be made available for several weeks, reveal that he died of a drug overdose?.
did prince bequeath a large sum of money to watchtower corporation upon his passing?.

If Satan himself wrote a large enough check the WTBT$ would happily cash it. Then wax on about it being a blessing from Jehoover. -

Wow Bonnie, I remember that too. My dad was the guy who often made the announcement. After prayerful consideration it has been determined that So and So is disfellowshipped for adultery, or apostasy etc.
At some point they stopped saying the precise reason but would say So and So is disfellowshipped for "conduct unbecoming a Christian"

Skits were a welcome diversion to the boredom. in 1961 we moved to a much more lively congregation. Most KHs had a small closet with a door on each side of the stage. Inside the closet there were props for the skits. We had a telephone, an apron, (for a sister to wear to play a householder) a couple of folding chairs, to portray seating on a bus, train, plane etc. There was a hardhat, a cardboard prop to look like a car . Those are just things I remember, there may have been more.
When d2d was being demo'd they actually knocked on the door on the stage. A pretend householder would sometimes have a frying pan in hand and say they were cooking, or have a baby in hand (you get the idea) the JW was to OVERCOME the objection. Might as well have demonstrated how to stick your foot in the door. HAha Nevertheless, these skits at least had some entertainment value and often provided some good laughs.

When I came into the world in 1952 my parents lived in the apartment above the Kingdom Hall so I'm literally a "born in.
I remember everything you mentioned. The first charts I remember were the ones that listed the monthly QUOTAS for each publisher and what the cong. averages were. I remember my parents looking down on the ones who only met the quotas. They thought the quotas were a minimum REQUIRED but in order to be exemplary these should be exceeded. (especially the hrs.)
If I remember correctly the quotas were:
Hours: 12
magazines: 12
books: 1 or 2 (cant remember)
Booklets: (can't remember)
Subscriptions: 2 per campaign
back calls: 6
Bible studies: 1 (your own child/ren didn't count)
These were per month so the chart was brought out every month. Pioneers had a separate chart. I only remember the quotas of 100 hours and 100 magazines. One magazine was expected to be placed per hour for everyone.!
Sometime in the early 1960's the quotas were called GOALS a slightly softened viewpoint that maybe, just maybe, you wouldn't die at Armageddon if the minimum was not reached.
I also remember a chart that looked like a giant thermometer where special campaigns were graphed. The congregation was supposed to reach a certain goal for subs, vacation pioneers, or whatever. Each week we watched the thermometer rise toward the goal. Stupid as it sounds the charts provided a little entertainment for a kid like me who had to sit still and listen to these endless meetings without anything but the Watchtower publications. UGH......

Would you have married your spouse if you weren't both JWs?
by 3rdgen inok, i've had some wine, but i'm curious.
objectively speaking, but for the religion, did you have enough in common with your spouse to have met and married as non believers?

Mrquick,
34 years is such a long time. I know because I belonged to my first hubby from the age of 15 till 47. married 30 years. I was clueless. I gave the Borg and him the best years of my life! Glad things are great now!
Oppostate,
Thanks for your candor.
Toes up,
Two thumbs up!
Quarterback,
I would have LOVED to be a back up singer for a famous artist or group. For me ideally, marriage would have come at least 10 years later than it did.
Stuck, So true.
