Elder Etta, Aude, and Zeb, Thanks so much for your condolences.

I bumped up a post from 3 years ago where I found out that Suzi had left the cult. I studied with her in the late 1960s when we were both still teenagers. She progressed to baptism and soon afterward I married and moved away when I was only 17.

I only saw her once in the mid-1990s. At that time we were both still believers, married with two children each. However, soon after our visit we both had horrible divorces and moved several times and so lost touch again.

Imagine my surprise when we found each other on this site.

I don't post here much anymore but still check in to read from time to time. Yesterday I thought I would send a FB msg. to SuziDrums and arrange a chat, as it had been quite a few months since we'd talked.

I was horrified to read a post from her son saying that Nov. 28 she was admitted to the hospital for back pain. They were told she had cancer and that it didn't look good. Only 3 days later she passed away.

I am still in shock and grief and am having a hard time expressing what a colossal loss this is to all who knew her.

Suzi, your heart, your spirit, your enthusiasm for life despite multiple tragedies, your intelligence and insight, AND your razor sharp humor will be missed more than I can communicate.

I wanted to arrange a meet-up with you, Dagney, Cha Ching, and anyone else who could make it near LA.

I was just a few weeks too late.

Wow! I was not aware of the March 1st 1951 WT article saying that JW couples who choose to have a child should not be criticized. At that time my parents had been married 9 years and chose not to have children so they could "Pios-sneer" I now realize it was NO coincidence that I was conceived the month after this article came out!

My Hubby (Baalamsass) was married the first time in the late '70s to a young woman who they both knew could never bear children. He very much wanted to be a father but figured it would be a very short time before they could have plenty in the new "order". He would never have married her if he didn't believe WTBT$ hype about the nearness of the "end".

Fast forward 20 years, he is divorced and so am I with 2 teenagers. We fell in love and married but my kids were so mad I remarried they moved 5 hours away to live with their father. I was in my late 40s and did not want to have more children. Soooooo my hubby is VERY sad that he never will experience fatherhood. Fathers Day is awful for him.

Am I the only one who is wondering WTF is going on with a father and 2 teenage daughters who are all naked and the mother has clothes on? Those poor girls. They didn't ask to be born into a cult family and possibly sexually abused as well. I certainly hope Child Protective Services steps in.

for a while there was this arrangement, based on 2thess:3:14, wherby a talk was given on the service meeting describing a dangerous influence in the congregation, and reference was made to that scripture, thereby indicating to the congregation that this threat exists here, and that you should distance yourselves from anybody fitting that description.

frankly, it bothered me because even if somebody didn't know who was really being referred to, they felt like they might, so the congregation formed little fractures of suspicion.

i wrote to the society because of this divisive effect (that i'm sure wasn't the intended effect; creating a phantom "marked man," breaking up the unity in the cong...etc.).

Also, around 1989 I was in a cong who's P.O. happened to be my uncle. He was a stern, self-righteous, by-the-book, ass****. He also gave a marking talk naming the first and last names of 2 brothers who were young teens. The talk included details of what they were accused of: kid stuff, dress, grooming, etc.

Their mother and father were exceptionally sweet people who were so crushed over the matter that they changed congregations. I heard later, they all quit. Yeaaaaa!

Back in the early 1980s 2 of my nephews (through marriage) were 11 and 13 years old when they suffered through their parents' bitter divorce, and were kidnapped and taken out of the USA by their mother. It was over 3 years before the FBI returned them to their father and stepmother who were active JWs

Now at ages 14 and 16 surprise surprise, they had emotional problems. One day they took BB guns and shot out the glass from some lights attached to a fence around a nearby subdivision. They were caught and sentenced to pay restitution and do community service. (appropriate right?)

Once the elders in their tiny town found out they announced both of their names as being marked followed by a talk describing what they did. The instruction at the time was to treat those marked as though they were disfellowshipped.

It backfired on the congregation because the counselors at their school were angered that boys who clearly needed therapy were not only NOT getting it, but now being ostracized as well. Soon after they were finally reinstated by the congregation, the policy of shunning was replaced with non-socializing, which is nearly as bad.

Thanks, Everyone for your thoughts, videos, and updates. As has been mentioned, the southern part of our state is on fire as well. The air quality is abysmal.

President Trump, Jerry Brown, and the Govenor Elect came to Paradise this morn to access the damage and plan strategies for assistance.

I want to clarify something I said in my OP when I said I hope the KH burns down. I meant that if hundreds of homes and businesses are on fire then I see no reason why the KH should be spared. I did NOT mean ANY harm to come to JW's themselves. Watchtower owns all of the KH's these days, The least they could do is pick up the tab for rebuilding a new Kindumb Haul. It turns out that There are 2 KHs, one destroyed and the other damaged. No angelic protection!
