Butterfly, Don't worry, you were more "Christian" than they are by far. You were more polite than they deserve. I like how your husband made his presence known as if to say "Don't mess with my wife". Best wishes

Do you believe in Love?
by freeflyingfaerie inmaybe you are an atheist.. maybe you are agnostic.. you have left a cult, left behind an entire belief system, complete with detailed instructions on how to live..rules to follow for every aspect of your very life.
you know it was a big lie.. you are now naked, staring at your soul.
just you, just your own thoughts, just your own voice, your own feelings.

Absolutely! Years ago many studies were done with baby monkeys who were taken away from their mothers and kept alive in isolation. Even though they were given plenty of nourishment and warmth, they failed to grow and thrive. The research showed that the mothers touch, attention, affection, were necessary for proper growth and development.
Humans need a mothers love and care to thrive as well. From the moment we enter this world we need to RECEIVE love in order to learn how to GIVE it. We learn how to love ourselves properly from our parents. If we were raised in a cult, our parents were influenced to resist their natural affection toward their children and transfer their greater love to God. This in turn, produces children with self esteem issues who tend to seek the approval of their parents by adhering closely to the cult. A vicious cycle.
Converts to cults may have adjustments to make in order to receive and give love effectively.Therapy is very helpful in this process. IMO a person can live without love but never thrive. The most sucessful romantic relationships are between those who develop the ability to give unselfish love. In other words, become the kind of person you are looking for. When you do love will find you.

What leads a person to think they are inspired by God?
by jwfacts inthere seems no end of people claiming to be inspired.
there are numerous holy books claiming to have been handed to their writers by god.
these days a person writing their own holy book is likely to be met with scepticism (unless you are a scientologist), so people tend to claim to be inspired to interpret older holy books.

I hope your wish comes true BOTR.
I, too, was 12 when The Beatles hit the American scene. Being from Cali I was a fan of the Beach boys and the other lesser surf bands. Something strange came over me though, when I first heard and saw The Beatles. IT WAS LOVE!!! All my friends liked Paul the best but I picked Ringo. I'll never forgot my staunch JW fathers reaction to seeing them on the Ed Sullivan TV show. He yelled that they were "faggots playing an African jungle beat"
I was not allowed to have their records or watch them on TV. Had to be a fan at my friends house whos parents were more rational JWs. She had every record, teen mag, and poster available. We would pretend to marry Paul and Ringo hahahah! We saw "A Hard Days night" and screamed our lungs out. What good memories!

Why is this saying not included in JW wedding services?
by truthseeker inso simple, yet it could have prevented so many broken marriages if someone had just said something.... .
"therefore, if any man can show any just cause why they may not lawfully be joined together let him speak now or else hereafter forever hold his peace".

I'm marrying in my teens 'cause my parents are afraid my 1st boyfriend and me will engage in "loose conduct" or God forbid, the big no no and receive the fate worse than death... DF! I'm marring in my teens 'cause I hate living under the vicegrip of my JW parents and I think I'll have way more fun married. LOL

Mouthy, You gave a wonderful answer to those who lack empathy for those grieving genuine loss. You have suffered more loss than anyone I know. You could have let it kill you or harden you into bitterness and hate. You didn't, and I applaud- ((((((MOUTHY))))))
I am too new in my exit of the WT$ to have decided definately about God, no God, or Agnostic. For now, I have decided not to rush- to decide not to decide. IMHO, what many have not learned since leaving the WT$ is humility, empathy, and common courtesy.
