OH Gawd, I love your user name! Welcome! Your wife's family is like many I have known including some in my own family. The happiest JWs are the ones who bend the rules to fit their own wants and needs yet still believe they are protected from God's rath by being in the "ark of God's organization". :)

More WT Propaganda: 10 Year Old Children Should Get Baptized!
by Oubliette ini just caught this in an upcoming study article which will be "studied" in the congregations the week of 11/18-24/13:.
he and his wife were elated when their eldest daughter, age ten, told them that she loved her parents, loved the brothers and sisters, and loved jehovah very much.
she said that she wanted to dedicate her life to jehovah and get baptized.

Too much reality is too much all at once. I try to pace myself with reality in between beers.

I am very sorry for the loss of your son in law and the grief your daughter must be feeling. The beliefs of the WTS have added so much extra pain in your family's life. You should NEVER have been shunned by anyone much less your own family-and for what? not believing in 1914???? Awful! I hope your daughter can fully accept your love and comfort at this terrible time. All the best to you Mouthy. Please come back when you are up to it OK? Promise???

Besides the obvious lifelong control baptism of young children produces, it also bumps up the numbers. Watchtower converts are hard to come by in this age of information. Getting dunked BEFORE the age of reason keeps the yearly stats from otherwise dropping and becoming discouraging to the rank and file.

More WT Propaganda: Low Paying Jobs are OK for Family Heads. Just "Don't Miss the Meetings!"
by Oubliette ingod, evidently, wants you to be poor: .
a newly baptized brother is married, and he and his wife have three small children.
one day, a workmate suggested that he and the brother move to another company that paid a higher wage and provided more benefits.

This same imaginary brother is nevertheless "compelled" to give generously to the WTBT$ dispite his approved low paying job.

Have you grown detached from caring about JW family and old friends?
by tootired2care inafter being out of the borg for a year and a half, weve dealt with a lot of nonsense from local elders stopping by unannounced, well-meaning do-gooders trying to encourage us.
somehow weve managed to get through this without getting dfd/dad.
for me the worst part of it all has been that much of my family has shunned me, and stopped talking to me, as soon as they heard through the grapevine that i wasnt going to meetings.

Hubby and my situation is similar to yours except we didn't wake up untill we were close to 60 yo. We have no siblings but every living relative is a JW. We faded several years ago and have been shunned by our aunts, uncles, and cousins. None live in our town. NOT ONE has called or written a word of encouragement. We have received a couple of nasty phone messages I can't discuss for now. They know we have suffered a number of trajic situations yet, we are dead to them. I too, have finally stopped crying over the loss now that I realize they never had real love for us. Do we intend to have it out with any of them? NO! They have revealed their authentic and cult personalities to be selfish at best hateful at worst. Why waste my emotional energy on them. They know how to reach us. If they ever change I will welcome them with open arms but as they are now, they are TOXIC.

The nu lite was introduced/announced at the conventions of the summer of 1971. The arrangement went into effect early 1972.

Planting Seeds--Plants Do Not Grow Overnight
by blondie ini see some post here that want family and friends to see ttatt immediately.. i'm a gardener, a serious one.
we make sure we put in an area that gets sun, check the soil each year, put in compost and other amendments, make sure we plant seeds compatible with the ones next to them, plant far enough apart, proper amount of water.
everything can be perfect but when i go out the day after planting...nothing has broken through yet.

So true Bondie, I am a gardener as well. Where I live TIMING is crucial because our summers are very hot (over 100F) yet winter brings freezing temps. Picking the right time and place to plant means success or utter failure. I am finding it very hard to restrain myself from spewing TMI all at once to jws when I am already in a bad mood. Thank you for the reminder.
