If there was a pill that could open their eyes - would you give it to them?
by truthseeker inif there was a pill you could give to your jw family members that would awaken their eyes to the truth about the cult, would you give it to them?.
most would probably say yes.. but what about those who are completely institutionalized, the elderly, the super zealous, the geeky kids who have no friends, the misfits?.
some people need "boundaries", they need someone to lead and give them directions, they need a sense of belonging, even in an organization that has no social programs.

My answer is yes, yes, YES! I would give it to each and every member of my family. The ones who are young need to know while they can still easily adapt to a real life outside the Borg. The older ones in my family including my 95 yo mother deserve to know because they have been sanctimonious a$$holes to me and others my whole life. They have loved conditionally, judged harshly, and hurt many without loosing a minute of sleep. I would sincerely like to meet them for the first time without the cult personality. It would be interesting.

Oh my! I will by all means send this little nugget a card and maybe some Legos. My own son absolutely LOVED Legos when he was small. He died 10 years ago in an accident and I have not been the same since. All good wishes go out to the entire Nickerson family.

Are you kidding me? It's inescapeble unless you are the screwor instead of the screwee. The worst I have witnessed happened to my own elderly mother. She was a born in and baptized in 1937 the year she also started reg and special pioneering. She was still pioneering when she met and married my father in1943. He inherited a large sum of money and continued to grow it until he died and left her a very wealthy woman. During the time he was alive they gave several hundred thousand $$ in gifts to the WBTS$. (of course, Knor and Jaracz loved him) After he died mom continued to donate outragous amounts of $$ while she lived in a tiny duplex. In her late 80's she could no longer live alone but to my surprise, she was BROKE and couldn't pay for a decent rest home. Her last donation to the WTBT$ had been a "conditional loan" of $20,000.00 Hubby wrote a total of 3 letters on her behalf reminding them of the family's generous outright contributions then asked only for that last loan to be repaid as she DESPERATELY needed the money and was suffering from dementia when she gave her last $$ to them. The letters were hand delivered to a member of the GB at the time as well as the service desk. Well you guessed it, they not only refused to pay her back the loan, they refused to say "no" in writing. After calling the service desk several times we got a verbal answer. It was "Get her on public assistance". That, from a filthy rich Borg which pays NO income taxes!!! Is it any wonder that the followers are no different than their leaders?

Exwhyzee, I understand your op completely. When I couldn't sleep last night I decided to look up a couple of JW families whose names happened to come up at the Apostafest. The newly ex JW is disgusted that these families could rather openly live double lives and never be Publicly Reproved or DFed. Of course the reason is twofold: 1 they have lots of money and 2 they have close family (several) on their Elder body who themselves are shady. Anyway, as I was looking at some of their friends I saw where two couples who I know well were SELECTED to be delagates at Seattle. The funny thing is that one of the wives gets falling down drunk at every party I have ever seen her at and both kids publicly left the borg. (One says she's a Budest on FB) The other exemplary couple? Well, he's never attended enough or cared enough to be appointed a servant. Years ago after the meeting he took his oldest son into the KH library and punched him onto the floor. The fistfight had to be broken up. That son is no longer a JW. (what a shock) His wife is a nutjob but she dresses in expensive (thousands of ##) Designer clothes. Again, both couples have many close family Elders who shield them. Like you, my reaction was a little meloncholy and I had a hard time understanding why. I've decided it has to do with my sense of justice and fairness which is completely absent in the Borg. I t's all about how well conected you are and how much you can pay to stay that way. I truely don't miss the hypocracy.

My frist email letter from my JW Dad. So sad...
by suavojr ini am in my early 30s and woke up to ttatt in late 2012. my dad just turned 65 in june!
wow, i never saw that being possible.. .
he just got himself a computer and was able to get internet in a remote location where he is serving as an elder with my mom (where the need is great) i was happy to see how he was able to send me a few notes saying hi and i was able to share some pictures of my wife and family, etc.. .

Wow! It's like two people wrote that letter. His authentic self: "Hi kiddo, how are things going?" The cult brainwashed robot: (the sermon that followed). Not a word about his grandchildren? Amaaaaaaazing and pathetic. Just so you have a ray of hope: Hubby and I didn't wake up till we were about 60.(He was also a former Bethelite and Elder) We just returned from the Tahoe Apostafest and met several more former Elders who woke up in their 60's, one was just out and appeared to be over 70!!! You never know what is bothering a JW because a "good" one won't say it out loud or even to himself. However, there is usually a "last straw" and it is different for everybody. I guess what I'm saying is it is still possible for them to change but it will take more humility than they are currently showing.

What was the Overall reaction from the world media ,to the Awake article ,may 22nd 1994 regarding "Youths Who Died Refusing Blood".
by smiddy ini , and my wife had probably left about 12 months prior to this magazine coming out , and i never at that time had any knowledge of it till many years later when i joined this site.. when i did see it , i was appalled that they could put out such an article , in a magazine they would distribute throughout the world .. to me it smacked of child abuse .
these were kids , who had no life experiences , who were far too young to make life or death choices of their own , were influenced by religous leaders who had their own agenda , and sadly by family , relatives and freinds who were indoctrinated by a man made religion that has its roots in america in the late 1800`s .. so my question is , did this episode of child abuse go under the radar of mainstream media ?
did it escape child protection agencies of the time ?.

At the time that magazine came out I had two pre-teen children. I was very busy doing my mom thing, dance lessons, slumber parties, play dates, school projects etc etc. Add to that, meetings FS, absentee husband, in-law problems, I was too distracted to really process the horror of that ragazine. BUT... I do remember CHOOSING not to use it in FS and CHOOSING to ignore the Cognitive Dissonance it produced in me. Like most JW's I coped by staying busy NOT THINKING.

Hi Skinnedsheep, Hubby and I are very glad you are no longer "stuckinamovement"! We looked for you every day at the Tahoe meet up. Really hope you can make it next year. You are wise not to define your family by Watchtower standards. Congratulations on sucessfully leaving this destructive cult!
