TV.JW.ORG
by piztjw ini tried to, out of curiosity, watch tv.jw.org this morning.
i barely could stand to make it seven minutes before i had to quit.. of course there were at least two, maybe three mentions in that short time of the expense incurred and the subtle begging for money to "support" the televangelism effort.
a time lapse video showed the construction of the tv set.

The Resurrection Hope - Does It Help or Slow Down Grieving?
by usualusername ini think the resurrection hope really really messes up people.. .
at some funerals i have not seen a tear shed.. .
could grieving be interpreted as a lack of faith?.

How much is JW indoctrination and how much is shock? I still don't know 10 years after my firstborn, my only son died. It was so sudden-! one day he was so full of life so wonderful- the next day I'm told there was an accident and he's dead. Bam!! How do you process that? I didn't shed one tear at the informercial/memorial for him. It must have looked to teachers and fellow students and "worldly" friends like I was completely cold. Trust me, I was in shock. The resurection hope is meaningless when you are in grief NOW.

The Gentile times have ended; their kings have had their day.
by Londo111 indear jw,.
on october 2, 1914a hundred years ago todaycharles t. russell announced, the gentile times have ended; their kings have had their day.
for almost 40 years, among other predictions for that year, 1914 had been looked to as the end of armageddon, false religion, and all governments, and the beginning of paradise on earth and the resurrection.

Interview of a born in like myself: "So 3rdgen, how did you learn the truth?" "Well my first memory was as a toddler being beaten mercilessly with a belt because I wiggled at the KH. That taught me proper fear. At the age of 6 I became an unbaptized publisher after being shown the lovely picture in the Paradise book about what happens to bad little girls who aren't JW. The doll, the bicycle, and the puppy falling into the abyss really reached my heart. Then when my family disinherited and shunned my older brother for simply not getting baptized, I knew it was the truth and made my dedication at the age of 12."

So when the service meeting starts replacing special needs parts with How I came to know the Truth, how are they going to handle the fact that most everyone is a born in except the mentally impared? I can see it now "So sister Nutjob how did you learn the troof? "Well, when i was a professional belly dancer I always wondered if God cared about me. When brother Slacker and his buddies came in for a lapdance they convinced me that they REALLY cared and so did God. Yada yada. Some of that story is actually true and the kookie sister comments about her "interesting past " a lot!

Come with me, back to the 1980s--you know want to.
by FlyingHighNow ini don't know about ya'll, but i did not appreciate the 1980s enough.
i was too busy lamenting how different they were from the 1960s and 1970s to bask in and appreciate how wonderful they were.. this is 80s music, especially new wave music, and 80s fashion and culture appreciation thread.
what did you love about the 80s?

I hope Mellencamp is as wonderful now as he was in the 80's so you can enjoy him as much as I did. I saw Bob Dillon in the late 80's and was so disappointed. He was REALLY bad and I was such a fan-oh well, can't win 'em all!
