My brother died last night
by LisaRose ini found out this morning that my brother died last night, he was also an ex jw, 73 years old and died of heart disease and kidney failure.
it was not totally unexpected, as he had been in poor health, but it's a blow, especially as i just lost another brother two years ago.
there were six of us, now only four.

She must not be a completely obedient JW. She is playing games online with complete strangers and it has put her in a situation to be exposed to at least one Eeeeeeviiiiil "apostate". She is ignoring the council from the slave. Brazen conduct! -

Jehovah’s Witnesses are Taught to Lie but to then Lie about Lying
by Terry injehovah’s witnesses are taught to lie but to then lie about lying.
first off, let’s define what it means to tell a lie.
i prefer the definition offered by aristotle way back in 4th century b.c.e.

Here is what kind of person (Prince) a celebrity JW is

FWIW, I think a couple of things are at play here. It's true that Prince "apparently" got away with much more than the average J-dub. However, if an average male JW sporadically attends meetings because he works out of town, turns in some FS time each month (even if it is "informal"), has no desire to be in the ministry school, pioneer, carry mics or be "used" in any other capacity they can often avoid severe discipline.
The heat gets turned up IF and WHEN they are MS elder etc. who are expected to be EXemplary. It drives Watchtower NUTS if a man has absolutely NO desire to have any of their so called "privileges" (tm).
On the flip side I have close relatives who were in a band who played at weddings, parties, and local restaurants/bars. The CO came to town and gave them an ultimatum: Either quit or loose your MS and Elders positions. They were seriously hurt but the cult in them won and the band no longer played anywhere but at their homes. If they had picked their music they would simply have been treated like the sisters. LOL

what sort of reactions have you gotten when talking to other jw when telling them the "truth about the truth"?
by AmIright inits funny ive read some stories on here about how they have become so infuriated by what logic dictates as being true and their own denying of it because it completely screws up their belief and shows how hypocritical it is xd some look like a nuclear reactor about to blow xd.
share you experiences here :) .

I have shared a few of my "true feelings: and mistreatment with only 2 of my closest JW friends.
The first sister is a model JW who comes from an exemplary family full of elders and COs. Her husband is a prominent local elder. They have been to Gilead, served where the "need is great", reg pioneered, you name it. I was close to her because she didn't have a hypocritical or judgmental bone in her body- extraordinarily loving to all. Interestingly, neither of her 2 grown children are active. In fact one was DFed for years and married someone at a Catholic church! The other was constantly in the "back room" and eventually faded.
When I briefly let her know what "stumbled" me her reaction was: Her face grew pale, she became agitated and upset and simply said, "Don't tell xxxxxx!!! (her daughter).
The other sister, the personification of love and tolerance is a convert. Incredibly intelligent but indoctrinated at a vulnerable time in her life. Being the only JW in her entire family she has always "done her own thing" often breaking witness rules at holidays, birthdays etc. She never pressured her children to be JWs and they aren't. In the past she admitted she disagrees with the blood issue and disfellowshipping. Yet, when I confided that I am no longer a JW in any way, she also seemed upset and her question was, "So are you an Athiest?" Sigh.....

Is Larry Graham an Elder?
by ShirleyW ini think he is, but i"m not too sure.
just wondering because looking at that purple pimp outfit with hat that he wore to prince's memorial, i wonder if he ever gave a talk wearing the same outfit, when i've read here that some brothers were talked to for wearing a pastel colored shirt while giving a talk..

If Prince had an addiction to prescriptions drugs, it's a personal matter but if I want to grow a beard or attend college, it's not.
by ToesUp ininteresting article i found about prince and the jw religion.
i guess they are trying to get their 15 minutes of fame.
i find it disturbing that the elder stated if prince had an addiction to prescription drugs, that is a personal matter but the hundreds of intrusive jw rules like going to college (not scriptural) and growing a beard (also not scriptural) are not also considered a personal choice.

Just like everything else in dubland whether or not a person is disciplined for some infraction of the "rules" depends on which elders are assigned to the case and how the accused is perceived by them. For example:
The wife of a kind well liked elder in my hall became addicted to prescription pain killers. I had no idea until another sister told me that said elder and his wife had been to dinner and the sister found her (the wife) raiding her medicine cabinet!! It came out that the addicted sister was stealing painkillers from every home she visited in multiple congregations!!
How was she dealt with by the elders? Glad you asked. PRIVATELY reproved. They decided she's simply a nut and felt sorry for her husband who btw did not loose his position over it.
In many congregations she would have been DFed and hubby would be fired. It's a crap shoot.
Needless to say, there are few rich and famous JW's. The organization for various reasons has shifted it's focus to gathering money. It follows that there would be strong reluctance to discourage/discipline such ones.
