I might also add that the apparent non-participation of a person in the observable universe does not disprove that person's non-existence. All it proves is their apparent non-participation.

0 + 1 = 1
0 + 0 = 0
Zero has no potential generative power. It requires the existence of non-zero for it to 'become' anything other than zero.
That's why when you hear any supposed theory explaining how something came from nothing the 'nothing' is actually a very small 'something'.---
When speaking of 'God', I think of some eternal entity, something that 'wraps around itself'. There are those who believe that 'God' is simply some kind of eternal consciousness rather than a particular person who is set apart in one location. Of course one cannot argue against the existence of 'God' based on morality. We know people exist who are extremely evil but their lack of morality is not a condition of their existence.

DICTATORS, WHAT HAPPENS TO PEOPLE WHO ASK TOO MANY QUESTIONS, AND CROCODILE TEARS
Warning! The following video clips from the film "Team America" contain extremely strong language and vulgarity which may seriously offend some viewers. If you feel you might be offended please do not watch. However, if you feel you can get past any offense that might be caused, I think you will not only be entertained but find some very interesting messages hidden within.
Whether or not the film makers intended it to be significant, I find it rather apt that the story is told in a world where everyone is a puppet (manipulation by hidden hands?).

Jesus' parousia started in 1975, Governing Body selected as Faithful and Discreet Slave and Evil Slave dealt with by 1980, and Armageddon arrives in 2015?
by JWB injesus' parousia started in 1975, governing body selected as faithful and discreet slave and evil slave dealt with by 1980, armageddon arrives in 2015?.
it seems to me that some new light needs to be generated if the governing body (gb) of jws is to be considered as the faithful and discreet slave (fds).. .
(a) gb needs to be around as an entity when selected by jesus during his parousia.

Thanks Botzwana! I had a sneaking suspicion about that. Since we can't see posters' facial expressions and hear their voice intonations its not always easy to detect when someone is being serious or joking. RubaDub, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Maybe because I don't want to join another popular belief system and want to have the humility to acknowledge that the more I know the more I don't know. I like Outlaw's outlook and Slimboyfat's statement. I try not to worry about what may or may not be. One thing I do hate though is dogmatism and any claims to absolute truth. Whether you believe or not, the fact is that you are here, so what are you going to do with your life? Waste it arguing over the existence or not of 'God' or over the 'proper' understanding of the Bible or some other religious book? Do you get your sense of self-worth and identity from belonging to this group or that? At the end of the day its up to you to think for yourself and decide for yourself. I won't allow myself to be bullied into accepting some group's particular brand of 'logic' by those who try to win arguments by calling into question my sanity or appeal to 'authority' or the supposed number who accept a particular view as true. I decided long ago that I wouldn't leave my independent thinking lying on the road leading away from the organization!

Fellow member RubaDub said: "Are you taking into account that there was no 0 year? Plus, did you factor Noah's 120 years of preaching plus the Israelites 40 years of wandering in the wilderness less the missing 18 years from when Jesus was 12 years of age until he reached 30? Please do your research more thoroughly if you expect us to take our time and read your posts."
Dear RubaDub, the purpose of this thread was to consider what sort of 'new light' the WTS might come up with based on their own past teachings, which includes the year 1975 as being the end of 6,000 years of human existence on earth - this is the so-called sixth day period, minus the time that it took between the creation of Adam and the creation of Eve. I certainly am not promoting this as real 'new light', just showing how things might be reasoned from their point of view. Please don't lump me in with JWs who think somehow that they are God's favoured people and that certain Bible prophecies refer to them and the WTS. My apologies for any misunderstandings.
In line with what others said, the 'generation' could be interpreted by the WTS as not just forty years but anything up to seventy or beyond. We know how elastic and duplicitious a 'generation' can be: it can span a whole life time and even overlap another generation that continues where the previous one left off! -

The Society debunked the rumored new light on the F&DS in 1973
by Leolaia inthis is the summary of the rumored new light from the 2012 annual meeting, as posted by cedars.. the faithful and discreet slave was not appointed at pentecost 33ce, meaning that there has not been a continuous line of members of the slave class on the earth down through the ages.
the slave class was only appointed for the first time by christ in 1919.the faithful and discreet slave is a small group of anointed brothers during jesus presence serving at watchtower headquarters who are directly involved in the preparing and dispensing of spiritual food.
the individual members of the governing body are not the faithful and discreet slave.

Chariklo asked why some have referred to the 'faithful and discreet slave' story as a 'parable' - or as the NWT renders it: 'illustration'. Some JWs argue that the story is prophetic because it follows prophetic statements in Matthew 24 about the Coming of the Son of Man.
However, the story is not unique to this discourse of Jesus since you will find it given in a completely different setting at Luke 12:42-48. In that account Jesus has been speaking to a large crowd of people and just beforehand Peter has asked if the parable Jesus had just told referred to just his disciples or to all present. Instead of answering directly, Jesus tells the story of the faithful steward which, of course, parallels the story of the faithful and discreet slave at Matthew 24:45-47. Would it be likely that Jesus was uttering a prophecy or a parable at Luke 12:42-48? To me the most likely answer is that he spoke another illustration. Since Matthew 24:45-47 is the same story I would say it also is a parable. As to exactly whom the illustration applied, that is an entirely different subject for interpretation. My view is that Matthew 24:45-47 is pointed to by the WTS in preference to Luke 12:42-48 because of its proximity to Jesus' end of the age prophecies.

What is your view of miracles
by FutureAndAHope ini am a born again christian, not a jehovah's witness.
i have had many experiences with god, hearing god's voice, seeing minor miracles, have seen a woman healed instantly through prayer in jesus name.
what is your view on the miraculous.

At least some 'miracles' may simply be things that we don't as yet understand? Reminds me of the story of Jesus raising a child from 'death' by putting his mouth on the child's mouth. Maybe the 'miracle' was simply the use of first aid in resusitating an unconscious child.
