Cassuk11, I understand that you have a deep belief in Jesus of Nazareth being your personal saviour, and accept that this seems to fulfill your spiritual needs. However, we might ask the question of why we should, as you put it, "go through anquish in the flesh mentally, spiritually and emotionally". The truth is the truth no matter where you find it. Many of us have grown up spiritually to stand on our own two feet so to speak and having tested our beliefs in the cold light of day having found our previous religious beliefs wanting. Do you think that love in and of itself cannot be the saviour of humankind? Why do we have to force ourselves to follow a Jesus or a Mohammed or some other person who claimed or claims to be the way to God? Using the mind rather than the emotions can help us to live a life that does not make a virtue out of suffering (which makes us vulnerable to manipulation). It may well be that a person's Messiah is actually to be found within them! If indeed man is made in the image of God then maybe, just maybe, we can find him there without the need for 'holy' books (of whose origin we cannot be certain).

i learned to read on that book.there were some very disturbing images,like the earth opening up and people falling into it.like upside down ladies and hippies.id love to get a hold of one and peruse it with a friend and some herbal medicine.maybe there is one in the attic?anyway,that and the image of the snake talking to the beautiful,bare shouldered eve,who was holding an apple,made a big impression on me.any else have any faves from that book?is it still being used?.

I was going to give a comment, but you have to have a google account for that. Nevertheless, here is what I was going to write:
"You seem to know some personal information about the father. Are you perhaps his son? What would you say if the son's mother had been in the 'Moonie' cult or espoused Scientology, would you think the father would have a right to intervene? If so is it not a case of double standards? Part of the role of a caring father is to protect his offspring from anything he considers to be questionable. So please don't berate your father for following his conscience."

I thought I would also include here for those not aware of the prophecy uttered by the WTS back in 1969:

The Governing Body claims to speak by the authority of Jehovah, therefore such a prophecy as that proclaimed back in 1969 constitutes a presuming to speak in the name of Jehovah. Although they have proven themselves in times past to wish to have the honour of a prophet but none of the accountability, the fact remains that they are false prophets. -

Perry made a very important point about the role of Jesus in the minds of JWs. I think it very telling that the WTS proclaims the coming of "Jehovah's Kingdom" rather than the "Messianic Kingdom". This in spite of the fact that the Christian Scriptures' proclaim the "Kingdom of the Son of God's love", which according to Paul reigns before "Jehovah's Kingdom" (i.e taking effect after the Son hands back the kingdom to his Father).
