those of us raised as jw's were taught that "it does not belong to man who is walking even to direct his step".
we were repeatedly told that without god, humans were incompetent and doomed to fail at any endeavour.. i personally believe that this teaching, that we as individuals do not make a difference, is possibly the largest doctrinal harm done to jw's, and one of the toughest to overcome.. so, for those of you who were raised in the wts and left, what do you choose to do now to make a difference in the world?
why did you pick that avenue - or why do you think you've waited up till now?.
I volunteer some time and food to a local soup kitchen, I know what it's like to be hungry.
I have started a mailing. Nothing to grand, just a mailing telling people they can get out of the wts. I'm hoping this will hit jw's who don't know how to escape. This is a mass mailing, much like the coupons people recieve in the mail.

Well they sure do. I used to dance around the fire naked when I was a kid. That was a ritual every Sunday after the meeting.

i was 15, quite old compared to some.. a friends child has just got baptised at 13.....to think that she knows what she wants for the rest of her life at that age seems ludicrous.. so, who here got baptised at the youngest age?.

a short background of this topic before the question: at a very young age.
very young i was sexually abused, by more than one member of our congregation.
My guess is that the Society wants nothing that could be used against itself including the history of its workers. So, it probably is starting to scrutinize every applicant to Bethel...being particularly sensitive in the area of sexual abuse.
In doing this, wouldn't the wts be admitting some amount of guilt? As far as I know they didn't do this before the crap hit the fan. Wouldn't this policy backefire on them as well?

These are general statements the wt uses. Instead of giving a direct answer, the wt uses what I call the "rope a dope" routine. They go around in circle's giving vague answers, and then try to tie it into scriptures.
i knew i had a bright mind, i had been told that my whole life.
she hated going out in service but since i hated it myself we didn't go do the door to door work much.
i look back now and i can't believe how controlling and un-loving that religion had made me.
I try not to let peoples individual issues get to me. I learned a long time go, and am still learning, not to take things so personal. I think that comes from being raised in a socially and intellectually inclosed plastic bubble.
Man, that is so true. Don't feel bad about you still learning, I just realized the statement above about a month ago. Your way ahead of me, I give you prop's for your continuing effort to "better" yourself. Your right, it is tuff to face your own issue's and find what a jackass you've been. I've been there, and sometimes I'm still there...dammit!
You keep on doing what you've been doing. I know that's what I'm trying to accomplish as well.
My grandmother and grandfather were/are alcoholics.
Ask yourself a couple of questions. Do you center your activities around alcohol? Can you drink in moderation? Do you have to drink every day? How irritable do you become, if you haven't had a drink in a while? Do you overly defend yourself when someone asks about your drinking? Has someone said something about your drinking?
These are not definite signs, however they are cause for concern, and you should evaluate the answers you give. If your answers concern you, you could talk to someone who is involved with AA.
Take care of yourself, we wouldn't want to lose you to that kind of problem.
