freein89, I hope you don't think that I was trying to force the issue on you (or anyone else for that matter).

I have not read the mag, but I'm picking it up today! You made the point, that for some reason I had a hard time trying to convey. If the wts does want to survive, they will have to change in order to stay alive and be accepted. Thus becomeing more "main stream".

I too, know how you feel concerning the wts shutting down for good. But when large amounts of money are involved, nobody in the wts would want to see it die.

And yes, this is soooo cool!

Not ever so long as it retains either its elitism nor its shunning policy will it ever amount to a pimple on a private's ass.

But doesn't that one sentence show that their elitism is starting to faid just a little? And as for a pimple, even that has to bust at some point in time.

It may be like the movement of a glacier but at least it is movement.

Yep, I agree. I never said it would be a flood gate. But a trickle is a start. Eventually the dam will break.

Hey, I hear ya. I haven't talked to my father but once in 13 years. I just think that if you went back only 15 years, you would not have even found that sentence anywhere in a wt publication.

What's the most ridiculous thing you were ever counselled on?

one of the cornerstones of jw's is counsel.

they just love to give counsel and many times they will literally make things up just for the sake of counsel.

i was once counselled for joking around too much.

My father was counseled on missing meetings. See, my grandmother at the time was an alcoholic (she's long since passed), and every so often he would put her into a detox center. So most of the time, the visits would be on thursday..meeting night.

Knowing my father like I do, I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall. There ears had to of melted.

What I'm trying to point out, is that the sentence implies that the practice now is what is relative, not what it represented in the past. The Pinata refered to Lent, a Catholic holiday. Surely the wt knows this.

So if they make a statement like this for the Pinata, then what about other holiday's, practices and beliefs? This is why it got my attention. With the Pinata and what it represents, this statement has further implications. This can be used in any discussion with a jw.
