It is SO depressing when you just can't get through to someone
by ilikecheese ini have been hitting a brick wall trying to pry my boyfriend away from this stuff.
it just makes me cry that it's so obvious to me how wrong it is, and he's not even batting an eyelash.
he knows about all of the scandals, all of the false prophecies, the coverup of sexual predators, that elders tell abuse victims to stay with their spouses, that they dishonestly use sources, and he just doesn't care.

I lost out on being with the person I adored because I was told to be a JW I had to 'dump' her so I'd be inclined not to take that advice now, no matter which side it comes from. I personally don't think think God will direct you to help him or any other hocus pocus, all you can do is to the best of your ability, present the info you have and hope they listen.
I think nugget has it spot on, they have to be ready to listen, they have a sense of belonging they don't want to let go. If he (or anyone else) wants you to give them the time of day to discuss their beliefs then it should be reasonable to be given that time yourself to explain your thoughts. For what it's worth, I'd say stick to what the bible says and leave WT material out of it, that's when it soon falls apart.
Maybe you could use Matt 8:11 and ask him where the JWs say Ab, Jac and Issac will be, heaven or earth.

Who would you have Lunch With? From JWN?
by AvocadoJake inthe last few years "warren buffet.
" has donated his time to the highest bidder for charity.
the ebay auction usually goes for $100,000 to spend lunch-time and pick his brain on his view.

Certainly not manky'elli, I've already had many years of nut cases, I mean I wouldn't be opposed to healthy discussion with a reasoning mind but not with insanity.
Quite a few seem good people, interesting people, Zid, balaamsass, 3rdgen, cedars, found sheep and Marvin.

"Hospitality"?
by NCO inhad to meet my parents not too long ago for some family business and while working out the time for that sunday, they said they had the meeting and then following the meeting they had "hospitality" for an hour or so.. now i've been out for going on 20 years and somewhat out of the loop.
needless to say i've never heard of that.
i've been to other churches where they have the sanctuary and then the fellowship hall where the members go and eat after the service.

What's The Biggest Difference In Today's JWs And The Witnesses From Decades Ago?
by minimus ini believe today's witnesses lack zeal, resolve, "love" of the "truth"......just to name a few things.. years ago, witnesses were excited to knock on doors and tell people they were gonna die if they didn't accept paradise.. now, when you see jws in service, they all look zombied out.. it's a slowly dying religion that will last probably forever like an ancient rotted out tree..

I have absolutely no idea. But people will always be people. On a social media site one of my friends put a (funny) JW comment and I was instantly worried because I have one family member on it who is a j dub, but I needn't have worried, after having my first look through his page today's chat has been sarcastic talk about a particular girl giving a guy oral sex.
The same standards (and often a lower standard) than can be found everywhere else.

Are We in Danger of Religious Beliefs?

are we in danger?.
is it not an exaggeration to say that all of us are in danger of being deceived with regard to our religious beliefs?

You have nothing to fear from examining your beliefs - The Watchtower
hahahahahahaha thats priceless.
Seriously ban the little prick.
I'm all for free speech but I have to say, I 100% agree with Cofty here, enough is enough. Big copy and paste jobs from the watchtower without making an actual point is too much. I read a post on Marvin's blog recently where he's said that he deleted someone's comment because it was just a silly copy and paste job, he did say he invites discussion but not big copy and paste jobs and no point making.
If I was a moderator I'd be inclined to give him a warning and if he/they didn't enter proper discussion but continued with the propaganda then it would be time to leave.

For Mankkeli and other apologists
by JeffT ini thought i'd throw this out here again after reading the post quoting the wt article about returning to god.
the problem with all such articles is, the governing body/watchtower/jw's are not god.
leaving a human organization is not leaving god, nor is going back to it returning to god.

These people who have an inability to listen to reason will never ever go away. The fact that they are even here means they are breaking their faith, coming here attempting to defend in the face of over whelming evidence to show not only how wrong it is but how bad and destructive it is.
The lies are quite funny because they aren't even clever enough to give a proper argument, watchtower quotes and idiotic replies, I'm inclined to completely ignore them unless they are opening proper discussion rather than spouting absolute rubbish.

Yes, for getting a kitten. I kid you not. I had two elders come to my house to ask if I had a kitten because they had 'heard' that cats weren't allowed in my building...

:(
I laughed at a lot of that (even though it's not funny really) simply because I remember the slog.
