It just feels great to tell these tales to a group that not only understands but has experienced much of the same BS! Though I have scanned this site for a couple of years, to become a participating member of the discussions is a whole new level and a great outlet! This has been and will continue to be a great place! Thanks to all!

What really ended the book study in private homes?
by Alfred init's been over 3 years since the book study in private homes was discontinued and some jws are still scratching their heads over it.
although a letter was read to all congregations explaining that "book study night" would now be "family worship night", there was still much speculation among jws as to the real reason behind this decision (the great tribulation was about to start, jehovah was simplifying the lives of jws, to lessen the burden of poor jws who had no money for gas, etc.)...
but as we all know, decisions like these from the gb invariably have some ulterior motive behind it... and discussion boards such as this one usually finds a way to dig up the truth for all to see... but after reading several threads on this subject, i'm really not sure we've uncovered all the facts yet.... so i have to ask... what do you believe really ended the book study in private homes?

LOL designs!
Remember how one of the last tours of the Harlot of Babylon's biography had a printed supplement of changes that had to be interjected in the older editions? In about 15 years, they had to already make alterations to the doctrines! That one really made me roll my eyes!!!!!

Any names of the particularly douchy ones? The one who fell in with living the high life with Prince and Larry Graham was named Steven Campanga. He was a real dink and my sister credits him largely for her eyes being opened and her leaving! He was over to one family's home for dinner where the wife was an excellent cook and always put on a super meal. He seemed to fuss over it a bit and pick at it making the wife self-conscious. She asked if he liked the meat and he said he preferred "filet mignon". What an ass! He was the same one who demanded an impoverished rural congregation put him up in a hotel because the publisher's homes were unfit accomadations!!!

To me, I remember the book study coming as close to critical thinking as we ever did. The small, intimate setting allowed for a little more liberal discussion than the big meetings. I do remember the amount of material scheduled to be covered seemed to increase over the years leaving less time for elaboration. Maybe aside from opportunities for overt "apostate" discussions, the book study simply allowed for personal perspectives which could unwash the publisher's brains just a little......

So proud to have Randy posting on a topic I started! Sorry to gush but I love Free Minds and all of your great efforts! I'm not a huge fan of Prince, but have tremendous respect for his guitar playing abilities! Here's a video that even a 60's hippie should really appreciate:

Is the "Watchtower Study" = Question and answer a form of brainwashing??
by Witness 007 inon sundays study we were always told to keep answers brief and from the paragraph as some brothers would add "other meterial" to their comments.
the "correct" answer is right there in the paragraph.
read question --------find answer in paragraph------underline/highlight------read related {not] scripture-----raise hand---give answer from paragraph as though it's your own thought.

To me, it's a way to make the average JW's think that they're studying the Bible. In reality, they are merely parroting back pre-determined answers in such a way that there is absolutely NO critical thinking involved. It is a means to make the publishers think that they really are having a deep biblical discussion when that is the last thing the Governing Body would want them to do. That is why the formation of any sort of independent study group that JW's have tried to set up has been counseled against. They want to determine any and all brain synapses that are being used by the membership!!!

Anyone ever encounter a CO named Jack Thomas? He was completely old school and shot from the hip. He came through our circuit and raised hell in his unconventional ways and was "reassigned" after only one visit instead of the usual 6 visit rotation! He was very memorable and ruffled a lot of feathers with his famous expressions that we quoted for years to come.
He had a parable about building the temple and how grand it was and how much work it was. He stated that there was no way the temple would have been built if the Jews had simply gone once a week and "nailed their two boards" on the building. It was his metaphor to say that the preaching isn't going to be finished if we only went out the average 2 hours every Saturday. He also spoke about where we'd be if we didn't serve JE-HOV: Toes UP! (As he said it, he would always make a distinct gesture pointing his two fingers like an upside down air quote.)
When he visited my wife's rural congregation nearby, he squinted at the audience in his first part and said he didn't even recognize them as God's organization!?!?!
He also visited some other friends' congregation to the west and made waves. He spilled coffee on himself and cried "Goddammit!". He nervously said muttered, "Well, I, uh, haven't said THAT in a while".
Anyone else ever meet this legend before he was put out to pasture?

I like that, "immunity stick"! I never had it but it makes me think of a primitive native tribe deep in the Amazon. The stick would have dangling feathers and charms and of course topped with a skull! That's just how primitive the JW's are!

I was last affiliated with a Minneapolis area congregation a few years back. We saw Prince and the Larry Graham entourage at a Sunday meeting once and at many assemblies and conventions. I know he was affiliated with a congregation in a city named Chanhassen at one time. He was baptized privately at the hall there, I believe, and was treated as a real VIP. I heard that he made reference to a dog humping your leg in first ministry school among other things that would get an average JW yanked into a back room. I also heard that he and Larry Graham would actually invite young JW amateur musician's over to Paisley Park for "jam sessions" where they would be put down if inferior in their musical abilities. Apparently there was a rift in the congregation over the double standards. Much of this was heard second-hand but from very reliable sources including a childhood friend who actually went to that same congregation. One thing I did personally witness was an experience given by Larry Graham at a circuit assembly. It was the most disgusting display of arrogance and a distinctly unspiritual experience! He referred to having just come back from a Tour of Europe and how he was contacted by a "certain young man from Minnesota" that asked him to move there to study the Bible with him. He also talked about his daughter being baptized at a ludicrously young age (I'm pretty sure 7 or 8) and that she became a regular pioneer soon after (before she was 10 I remember for sure)!!!!
Anyone else know much about these escapades and/or what these clowns are up to now?
