Resistence-She joined after she had her education.
SOG-Thank you! I'll look into the books as well!
Also, I don't see her but maybe 3 times a year so our correspondence would be via email.
i have someone in my family that is a jw and she has engaged me in conversation.
for the record, i consider myself an evangelical christian.
after some debate and research, i backed out of a verse by verse debate and switched the convo to get on some common ground, asking if she believe the bible was the inspired word of god.

Thanks jonathon dough. I only say she's an intellectual b/c she is a PhD (2 doctorates) and speaks 5 languages. She's been around the world. But I get what you are saying. Thanks for the additional info. I'll add it to my arsenal.

I guess I just thought an educated/intellectual person could be reasoned with...but I can see how Bigmouth's statement is true in this case.

Thank you for the additional resources. I'm working on formulating questions. I agree that is the best approach. Try to lead her to the rabbit hole and let her jump in on her own. Over time she'll get there. I can see how it would be scary to leave. She has been involved for 15 years or more.
ShadesofGrey-Thank you for your kind words. I just send you a private message. Go to the top right of the page and click on the envelop. It should take you to your inbox.

Thanks yall. I'm not trying to convert her to my beliefs at all--not at this point.... I just want her to question what she believes. While I am a Christian, I don't believe my beliefs hinder my life, those I love, my work, etc. It's not restrictive in the same sense as JW.

Terry-Yes, I see the problem. But lots of people come of out it, so I'm wondering, what was the tipping point? What could someone say that would got the wheels turning?
MrFreeze-Going in circles is frustrating. Before I could ask her if WT is inspired by God (which was my planned 2nd move), she interjected that she makes an effort to read it and understand it from God's view and not to rely on her own knowledge or anyone else's. I was kinda hoping for her to give me a lead in to the WT issue.

I need help. I have someone in my family that is a JW and she has engaged me in conversation. For the record, I consider myself an evangelical Christian. After some debate and research, I backed out of a verse by verse debate and switched the convo to get on some common ground, asking if she believe the Bible was the inspired Word of God. This is where I left off. What I'd like to do it to get to the punch and get her to question the authority of WT. But I'm also open to suggestions. How did you get convinced that JW was a cult?? This woman is highly educated and I would consider an intellect.
