Simon, our micro brews can be tremendous. Beyond that, I cannot defend American beer.

by sleepy inso what do you drink, where and how?.
of course in britian we drink our pints down the pub.. i have to laught when i'm in europe as they only drink tiny glasses of beer , when you ask for their equivalent of a pint they look at you as if you are some nut case.. anyway i usually get through a couple of bottles of wine and several pints of larger a week.i drink most nights but not too much.. is it true that the legal age for alcohol is 21 in the states?.
i remember celabrating my baptism at 17 with a few pints in the pub.

preventing baptism of minors
by og inhere is the situation: my wife is a very faithful true believer (and a wonderful person, i will add, who really wants to do what's right) i have been da'd about a year, and we have 2 children.
our oldest is 13, and really buys into the witness line ( as, of course, i professed to until last summer) and i am fairly sure she is considering baptism.
here is my question: as one half of her parents, is there any legal doctrine that would allow me to prevent her baptism until she is 18?

To noi and myself (I'm talking to myself?): I basically agree with you... but otoh, if she gets baptized, moves out, and is faithful I'm gonna lose a lot years that way as well, wouldn't you say? What with her refusing to speak to me and all?

People can be helped. I was a zealous, brainwashed "True Believer", and I got over it, partly due to the Internet and the fine people on this Board.
LB: I agree with your comment - much deception about voluntary disassociation.
Xenu: fuck you and the horse you rode in on.
Flower: I won't feed him again.

Professing to the "A" Word... Sacrili...
by AGuest inmay you all have peace!.
there is a phenomenon that exists here that smacks of wtbts false propaganda and rhetoric... that i am compelled, by the spirit of my father, jah of armies, by means of his son and christ, my lord, jaheshua mischajah, to speak on it, if you will permit me.
absolutely, it is.

The problem with anyone claiming to be of the anointed, at least on this board, is that the term is far too loaded. The WS essentially requires worship of the anointed, as represented by the KGB (Kingdom Governing Body). I think a lot of these nutbars are really trying to discuss the born-again experience. Also, AGuest confounds the issue by referring to others as "Dear Ones" which basically makes my blood boil.
Anoint this, dear one. Oops, I'm getting angry again.

Oh golly, Noi, I do have her best interests at heart. What I'm trying to say there is that I might be willing to deal with some anger toward me, at least in the short term, if it meant that later on she would have a better chance to live her life and not spend it doing what the WS says to do. But you do get at the crux of the problem: prevent her from doing something whe wants, or stay out of her way?

Speaking in tongues
by Marilyn inanyone got any idea how they do it?
do they understand what they are saying?
are they talking real languages or just jibberish?.
-

Speaking in tongues, aka glossolalia, occurs in contexts other than fundy Christian meetings. It appears to be just one more of the funny things that people do occasionally, and that get co-opted as 'proof' that some religion or other is the truth. Some studies have been done, tape recordings have been made, and general consensus is that the sounds are nonsense, not a foreign language. It's a fairly stable phenomena - There's probably a Pentecostal church of some kind near you that does it a couple of times a week.
