I agree with previous post. People only offended when somebody else is watching (or bragging rights).

What movie did you walk out on when a jw? Have you seen it since? What changed?
by Wasanelder Once inok i walked out on austin powers because i thought it was so crude and god dishonoring.
since the fade i think it is very funny, still not a favorite but not the end of the world either.

Circuit Overseer's Talk: " We need 5 meetings a week and weekly mags"
by truthseeker inat the circuit overseer's talk last week he made the comment that some "of the friends" are finding it difficult to move ahead with jehovah's organization (tm).
the co said that a few had asked, "is it necessary to have 5 meetings a week, and a magazine every other week?".
"couldn't we do without one meeting a week, and have monthly editions of the watchtower?

Yeah, the beginning of this post confused me until I realized it was 8 yrs old, lol.
Less of both now.
Penton did say the future for JW's was to basically calm down and act like other mainstream religions. I think this is the direction it has gone and will continue to do so.

my evangelical christian co-worker is extremely "racist" towards Hispanics
by booker-t ini am getting so tired of my co-worker who is a "evangelical christian" constantly making racist slurs towards hispanic people.
i just don't get it and it is making me very uncomfortable because i wonder what he says about "black" people behind my back.
everyday he makes comments such as "mexicans" are dumb and stupid, "mexicans all can't speak good english", "mexicans have 50 million babies" and "mexicans are all on welfare".

The funny thing about it is he is Hispanic and he feels this gives him a liscense to bad mouth Latino people.

Maybe it does. I've met a few people that hate their own cultures, talk crap about it, don't have any friends in it (practically). Maybe I'm wrong but I kind of think that they can get away with more.
Two women in particularly come to mind... one Korean... one from India... both speak 'without accents', both surrounded by white people, in white neighbourhoods, both talk about how racist their culture is.
Are they wrong? Is it like bitching about ones own family... so it's ok? Is it like an Englishman complaining about the UK in a way that I really don't have a right to do?
When I was a teenager my mom said to me ... 'even if people know their kids are little brats doesn't mean that they want to hear it from somebody else'.

Future NooLight: Let's get prophesying
by Sapphy ini've been thinking about how the governing body now say they are the faithful and discrete slave, and trying to think about how this will play out.. as i understand it, the 15th july wt now says that the fds is identified with the governing body since 1971, and before that with a small group of anointed brothers taking the lead at watchtower hq since 1919.. of course they can't come out and say that the fds before 1971 was the wt board of directors because for a few years in the late 1940s hayden covington was both on the board of directors, and he was vice pres of the wt society too.
hayden covington was not anointed and never claimed to be.
he was 'other sheep' through and through.. .

I've often wondered this... well, not seriously.
How come with all the new light and adjustments that have been made over the decades... not once did anything come close to this.
'Upon looking at it all more closely we've realized that we were wrong about almost everything. Everybody pack up. Time to sell off these assets and go home. Sorry we wasted your time.'

I find the fact they are minimising 1914 kind of depressing.
It's the reason that I'd be lucky to graduate high school, what with those 1914 old enough to remember type people getting older and older.
Makes it real that this will just be a minor point for historians in the not too distant future. "Some little group in the 1900's believed what?"
Time marches on... and we wasted our precious time on this.

So, my husband would not even meet the elders who just happened to drop by this morning.
by Julia Orwell inhe stayed inside and kept going about his business like they weren't even there.
i engaged them on the verandah hut politely explained that they'd caught us at a bad time as we were doing a big cleanup of the house.
the elders had even bought a pack of chocolate cookies around, so they were expecting to be invited in and offered coffee.

The beard is always a good sign. Seems like a bit of a rite of passage for men to get some fuzz on the face for a while.
....hhmm... people didn't keep trying to visit me that way. Suddenly I'm feeling less popular.

Now how do you feel about 1 Corinthians 15:33 being quoted to you 8 million times in your youth?
Sometimes it's hard to not thirst for revenge! (lol)

by LouBelle in.....after 8 years of us being disfellowshipped.
the made contact through my aunt who is still 'in' - as in she has faded but is not disfellowshipped and will pop to a meeting now and again - she does this for my grans' sake.. the contact was from my aunt and uncle (he's an elder) these were the 2 witnesses used against me in my judicial case.
they contacted my aunt and said to forward the message onto us.
