Has anyone been in a country where the casket is shown at the KH?
When I was a child in the 1980's, we used to have open casket funerals at our Kingdom Hall. This was in the United States.

reading over the woody allen thread i noticed a couple things but didn't want to side track the "discussion".
1) woody allen is creepy.
2) nobody really seemed to care that his ex-wife was abusive towards her children.. an example i think is perfect was the release of twilight where you would see lineups of 30-40 year old women making very inappropriate comments about a 16 year old boy.
Women do not automatically get custody!
Women DO automatically get sole custody of children in all 50 US states when the parents are not married. Men have to fight a legal battle in court if they want to be allowed to even see their children and establish any parental rights.
Most women will pass a functional test of parenting over most men. It has nothing to do with gender.
That is a very gender-biased statement. It has EVERYTHING to do with gender.
Let's say an unmarried couple has a 16 year old boy. They suddenly break up, and the mother takes the 16 year old boy with her. The 16 year old boy wants to see his father, but the mother forbids it. The mother has every legal right to do this because she retains sole custody according to the law. But what is the sole basis for her having full parental rights and the father to have absolutely no legal rights to his child? GENDER.

IiT is absolutely false that women automatically get custody. Women never had a right to custody. The law decided that a tender year doctrine would be a good idea. From childbirth to about kindergarten, a child could temporarily reside with its mother b/c judges decided that the child was not doing much in the world. Once the child reached early school age, the father resumed total control. The father decided on education, governess, etc. Women were viewed incapable of raising their children. With the focus on the Equal Protection Clause, the courts adopted a functional approach.
Err... What country do you live in? If the United States, you must be talking pre-1960s. The feminist movement changed everything in family law to where now fathers are treated as second class citizens. Nowadays, men are completely discriminated against in family court based solely upon their gender.
In the overwhelming majority of cases, women DO automatically get custody no matter how old the children are.

What do you think, are there challenges facing men towards equality?
How about the family law court system?
By default, women automatically get custody of the kids. Men have to hire lawyers and fight for their right to even see their children. Then when they go to court, if they are allowed to see their children at all, the mothers are almost always awarded the majority of the time with the children. On top of that, the men are ordered to pay ridiculous amounts in child support, separate from the alimony they also have to pay, most of which is spent on her shoe collection rather than the children.
If it was really about providing children with the most money and security (since child support is based on income and income is usually imputed to be higher than it actually is), then primary custody would be awarded to the parent who makes the most money.
Instead, it all comes down to gender discrimination against men.
wow.
the insight book has some outlandish reasoning.
i'm trying to put together a talk for tomorrow night, the number 3 on abhorrent things (insight vol 1, p 17) and the entire first half links abhorrent things to menstruating women through a "possible" derived word that might mean uncleaness.
My cousin, who is a JW but is younger than me, in his late teens, once told me that an elder giving a talk said that the Bible was way ahead of its time on the laws given to the Israelites was proof that the Bible is inspired. The example he gave is that modern science has discovered that having intercourse with a woman who is on her period can cause STD's such as HPV/genital warts.
Even my JW cousin knew this isnt true.
I lol'd.

I remember reading this a few years back. I emailed the link to a JW relative of mine (they can't label me as an apostate because I was never baptized), but my relative emailed me back and said that they did not read the article and that I should be careful what I read. I asked them why they did not read it and they replied, "because it looks like an apostate website."
I wonder if there is any way you could ever get a JW to even read this.
