Not good enough to be officially appointed. Low hours. Only good enough for Bible reading. Too wayward for any other part. I'm a "free-thinker." Slowly but surely scaling down operations. Only on this board can I have in depth discussions without people shouting "wolf" or is it "Apostate!" I have family in the Truth, so it'll have to be a fade, gradually, slowly, carefully. I had to work things out, also my understanding of the Scriptures. I think one grows, and then outgrows certain things. I cannot stomach hypocrisy and narrow-mindedness. Was it The Joker (Jack Nicholson) in one of the Batmans that told his gang: Go! Broaden your minds. Then they trash the art gallery with sprayguns. So yes, I do have a bit of a rebellious streak too.

Designs, allow us a little leeway here. If there is an Almighty God (which I do believe in) then he will have left us "a road map" to guide us through these perilous times. Granted, most religious groups want the prophecies to apply to themselves and their situation. A good example is the Maccabees (see the interesting prophecy at Dan. 11:14), another is the breakaway Essene group, who collected the DSS. The end of their system did come with the destruction of Jerusalem by the Romans. This I call historical reality. But as Jesus pointed out, that was only a partial fulfilment.
Today we have many groupings doing the same, e.g., the Witnesses. But for me personally, the evidence is overwhelming that we are living in the time of the end, or as Daniel puts it "in the final part of the days" (NWT) or "the latter days" (KJV). I see historical reality in current happenings.
Most scholars want the prophecies of Daniel to apply to Antiochus IV Epiphanes because they believe there cannot be a predictive element in prophecy. I disagree. A definition of prophecy is "history written in advance." And as above thread suggests, God has always had a remnant of holy ones that He has kept safe. These ones are special because they will one day rule, alongside their Master, Jesus Christ. On above premises I build my faith, and yes, time will tell whether I am going to stand or fall.

Meni, enjoyed those scriptures, especially those in Is. and Zech. And I can see that humility is an essential ingredient "for your eyes to be opened". Interesting that the anointed would gradually deteriorate. I agree, the anointed on earth today are certainly damaged goods, imperfect, part of the dregs of humanity that has to face the time of the end.
What do you think of Is. 19:18? Five Canaanite-speaking cities in the land of Egypt swearing by God's name (cf. Dan. 11:41 Canaanites to escape, Egypt - the world - will not escape). One of the cities is called "City of tearing down". I gather from this that God's people (as a group) will be disbanded, later to be built up again (Jer. 1:10; 2 Cor. 10:4,5; cf. Amos 9:11, 12). On the other hand, the anointed will be purified (perhaps by persecution, even dying?). Then they will be called City of Rigteousness, Faitful Town, after being resurrected to eternal glory (cf. Is. 1:25-27). Any thoughts on the matter?

USA and allies are fighting an economic war against China and her followers. It is a war that they cannot win. The IMF predicted China will be the no. 1 economy in the world in 2015. See Dan. 11:40-45 holds the key: King of the North = Communist China, Russia and their followers. King of the South = USA, UK and their allies, i.e., the West. Land of Egypt = the world. Libya = Arab nations. Cushites = African nations. Ammon, Edom, and Moab = those spiritually related to the anointed remnant. Beautiful land = spiritual domain of anointed remnant.

Londo, just a thought. A JW is taught that spiritual food comes from "the faithful and discreet slave". In this case Elijah (or, the Elijah-class, referring to the anointed) is fed by unclean birds, ravens. Perhaps we, as "ravens" (in their eyes apostates or "unclean people"), can teach them a thing or two.
Here I think specifically of them being an NGO of the UN for ten years. According to their standards and teaching, they have joined "the disgusting thing causing desolation", and become part of "the beast ascending from the abyss". If you sell your birthright for a pot of lentil stew (a library card), you should expect God's displeasure.
Interestingly, they did not ask forgiveness, repent or turn around from their bad course, something you and I would have to do to be reinstated after wrongdoing and/or disfellowshipping. So their sin remains, until they repent. Perhaps a long shot, but nevertheless an interesting thought.

Designs, to quote Michael Jackson, "I'm bad, I'm bad...." So, no, I'm not one of the anointed. They might have to come and execute me. God would have told me if I was one of the anointed. But I do believe I'm of the raven-class. To explain that, please read 1 Kings 17:2-4. There it says that there will come a time that the ravens will bring food to the Elijah-class, i.e., the anointed.
Meni, I agree with you. I have done in depth study of Daniel, so I do believe that God has guided me to these conclusions in an indirect way. Why me, I really don't know. Because I have always been a free thinker and a bit of a rebel. I have written two books on the subject. The one on Dan. 11:40-45 startled me, to say the least. Again for those that believe in the Bible. The anointed should be willing to sacrifice a lot of things, ultimately their lives. Those of the anointed that are alive today are especially a target of Satan and his hordes. This comes through clearly in the Scripture, starting with Ezek. 38, 39, where Gog and Magog will attack God's people, residing on "the mountains of Israel". The big horn as well as the small horn or fierce king make war and decimate God's people (cf. Dan. 7:20-22; 8:23, 24). Next is Dan. 11:40-45, 12:7, where the final King of the North will invade "the beautiful land". There he will remain until his demise. Especially graphic is Zechariah (13:8-14:5), indicating that most of the anointed will be killed and "Jerusalem" occupied. Even the tribe of Judah will attack this "Jerusalem" (cf. Zech. 12:2-5; 14:3, 14). Last but not least is the book of Revelation (11:7) where the beast from the abyss is going to kill the two witnesses. Then they will be resurrected to receive their ultimate reward, and come back and wreak vengeance on their persecutors (cf. Rev. 17:14). So the path of the anointed is not an easy one, certainly not for the faint-hearted.

1 John 2:2 is a good scripture to use. Talking of Jesus: "He is a propitiatory sacrifice for our sins, yet not for ours only [i.e., John and his fellow brethern] but also for the whole world's [i.e., the rest of us]." That's for those that believe in the Bible.

Londo, that's also the direction I'm thinking. If that is the case, it would open interesting possibilities. Interesting scripture at 1 Kings 17:2-4:
The word of Jehovah now came to him, saying: “Go away from here and you must turn your way eastward and conceal yourself at the torrent valley of Cherith that is east of the Jordan. And it must occur that from the torrent valley you should drink, and the ravens I shall certainly command to supply you food there.”
According to the type anti-type analogies found in the earlier literature (ascribed to Fred Franz?), this one makes for interesting reading. Here we have the raven, an unclean bird according to the Law, bringing food to the prophet Elijah, i.e., the Elijah-class. Now that's the other way round. But one will have to be humble to be able to take food from the raven. Perhaps this is the year of the raven?

Thanks Lars and Augustin. I get the impression he's keeping a low profile. If only there were more Witnesses like him, things would not have stagnated as they did. I often reminded the Society, one cannot keep the Westcot & Hort text (1881) as a basis for the CGS. A lot of things have happened since then, especially the discovery of the papyri. And the same goes for the HAS. Many Biblical MSS have cropped up amongst the DSS, shedding light on the Proto-Masoretic text. Bibles, like NET and ESV, incorporate these new findings in their text or footnotes. The NWT underwent a revision in 1984. A lot has happened since then. But seeing that they don't encourage secular studies, it's not surprising. The few bright flames there were, were either quashed or suppressed. No scholars, no research, only deterioration and stagnation....
