It is obvious that none of the respondents have ever been molested? Perhaps they have been molested and are willing to take one for the team? I am ashamed to say that I was once associated with such fanatics that have no clue of right or wrong. And who is it that brought dishonor on Jehovah's name, the victim?

It took me a long time to write this...i'm staying.
by MsGrowingGirl20 init took me a long time to write this....i'm being brutally honest...i am still a reg pioneer...three sundays ago,i was praying and asking god for a sign or something because i was so confused...i told him exactly what i needed to see for me to believe.i was feeling terrible--crying and feeling sick because i was so confused.ten minutes after, i walked into the kingdom hall and to my surprise--my prayer was answered!
i soooo wasn't expecting it, even though i prayed.
so this is where almighty god wants me to be,ii've reasoned.

Each must work out his or her own salvation (Phil. 2:12). And in the end each must render an account to God (Rom. 14:12). As long as you don't stop thinking. Carry on developing your brain. Everything of the best.

JWs and Neutrality
by Vidqun injws have always had a problem with neutrality:.
1) during ww i they encouraged via the magazines to buy war bonds, i.e., liberty bonds, as it was then known, thus actively supporting the war effort (search, under "war bonds").. 2) during ww ii, the australian branch also invested heavily in war bonds in order for the ban to be lifted.
after the war, they had to repent, before jehovah could bless their efforts again.. 3) more recently the wts has invested in companies with defense contracts.. 4) membership of the un as ngo (1992-2001).

Thanks Blondie for your input. As you might have noticed, it is something close to my heart because of being directly involved with the neutrality issue in the past.
Criticalwitness, I agree. I have read somewhere that Jehovah allowed Rutherford and associates to be imprisoned because of the war bonds saga and because they did not encourage strict neutrality during the war. As you say, next time round things might be different. I do believe, what goes around comes around. The wheel is indeed turning.
Disillusioned, interesting theory, encouraging neutrality to keep the R&F focused on cult activities.
Carla, I agree. Few people understand the real meaning of the word, especially JWs. I know for a fact the Swiss nation, which is referred to as being neutral, is everything but neutral. Each of their citizens is armed and undergoes compulsory military training.
QueenWitch, yes being truly neutral does reflect ignorance or stupidity. Nobody can be truly neutral in a multi-cultural society. Even the Witnesses are not shy to don traditional dress, and they are proud of their heritage, no doubt.
Apostatethunder, good point. Being neutral in the midst of injustice (e.g. what's happening in Syria) is equivalent to condoning it. That puts "neutrality" in a new light for me.
InquiryMan, that rings a bell. I think it was the yearbook dealing with JWs in Australia and the islands.
Conclusion: I think all will agree, nobody can be truly neutral and retain a good conscience, especially where there is injustice. However, if you propagate it as an organization, you should put your money where your mouth is, and not keep double standards.

No takers. Let me bump the thread.
In Chapter 14 "They Are No Part of the World" of the Proclaimers-book they compare JWs with 1st century Christians. Their lapses during the First World Wars they ascribe to their understanding of Rom. 13:1, that the authorities were "ordained by God". That's why they encouraged their fellow Bible Students to buy war bonds and prey for an Allied victory.
Then the book goes on to say: "But then, at the end of World War I, another situation arose that called on religious groups to show where their loyalties were." They then discuss the formation of the League, the UN, the UN charter and their endorsement by religious groups. They conclude: "To observers of these developments, it was plain who wanted to be "a friend of the world" and who was endeavouring to be "no part of the world," as Jesus said would be true of his disciples.-Jas. 4:4; John 17:14."
Now fast-forward to 1992, and they join the UN as NGO. Interestingly, this is also the year that the Proclaimers-book was published and Fred W. Franz died. For some reason, their neutrality wheels came off then. What would have caused them to affect such a change from established JW doctrine? It boggles the mind.

I went through the information on "neutrality" in the Proclaimers-book. They are definitely not practicing what they are preaching. This is "theocratic warfare" at its best. If they continue on this path, things will unravel fast. Not even the most thick of the R&F will swallow all that. I am sure some of you will have some input on the subject to assist us newbies in our quest for freedom.

Planning an Escape: Truth Triumphs Over Lies!
by 00DAD inoften during wt/book studies and/or public talks i would be following along and note little discrepancies and inconsistencies.
perhaps it was a scripture that didn't really support the point being asserted in the paragraph or maybe it was an illustration that sounded good but wasn't completely parallel or maybe it was a line of reasoning that wasn't as conclusive or solid as the speaker/elder/co/wt publication made it out to be.
or maybe it was the excessive use of weasel words like, "evidently," "perhaps," "must have" and so on.

What a price to pay for the TTATT! I can sympathize 00Dad. Our stories are very similar, except for the "children" part. Thankfully I had no children. So I can sympathize to some extent. I always used to say (as a joke): If ever they took away my children, there would have been a murder. However, I remain an eternal optimist. I believe the real truth will be victorious in the end. As we know, all that is needed is that trigger, e.g., their involvment with the UN. That was all that was needed to put me in a different trajectory. So never lose hope.

Did Jesus ever use the name Jehovah?
by biometrics inwhile growing up as a jw this was a question i often wondered about: did jesus ever call his heavenly father by the name jehovah?
and if he did, why wasn't it recorded.. i know there's plenty of references such as john 17:6, 26 where it says "i have made your name manifest to the men ...".
however is there anywhere in the bible where jesus used the actual word jehovah?.

The question should rather be: Did Jesus pronounce the Tetragrammaton? As has been brought out, it is highly unlikely that he would have pronounced it as "Jehovah".
According to the Jewish Talmud, according to uncensored versions, Jesus Christ effected miracles by calling on “the Name”, an indirect acknowledgement that he did use God’s name. He himself declared: “I have made your name known to the people...” (cf. John 17:6, 26; 5:43). Early Coptic texts (Pistis Sophia) tells of Jesus praying to his father by addressing him by various names and incantations: Aeeiouo, Iao, Aoi, and others. In another passage, Jesus addresses his Father in the following names and words: Iao Iouo, Aoi, Oia, and others. This is an indirect indication that he did pronounce God’s Name. What was a popular first century pronunciation of the Divine Name? Norman Walker puts forth a few suggestions:
Aquila’s version, made round about 130 A.D., is remarkable for its Old Hebrew lettering of the Divine Name in the midst of the Greek text. Put into square character, what Aquila wrote was yhyh, Jâh-Jâh [cf. yâh of MT and Greek ’Iá of Aq, Sym, Theod, and Quinta of Origen’s Hexapla], the popular substitute for yhwh “Yahweh”, the ineffable Name, the very naming of which was regarded as blasphemy as far back as the third century BC, if the LXX at Lev. xxiv 16 represents current public opinion.... By the time the Mishna was compiled (c. 190 A.D.) the pronunciation had become practically JeJâ as the form yeyâ shows....
The recovery of a purer Ben Asher Text by KAHLE [KITTEL, Biblia Hebraica (Third Edition, 1945)] reveals that the Divine Name was earlier pointed yehyâh, that is with the vowels of JeJâ and not those of ‘Adhonâi. It seems to me that this vocalization supports the implication of Aquila and the Mishnaic form, namely, that in the first two centuries A.D. at least, if not later, the Divine Name was uttered JehJâh or briefly JeJâ. How can they be against college if they send their own people to attend? I know they did it in the past. This sounds more recent. I agree, a lot of the brothers (and sisters) will not be impressed. I'll try and find out exactly what was said.

One of my family members visted the Brooklyn Bethel recently. She spoke to the brothers about their stance on secular education. They informed her that she doesn't have her facts straight. Recently (I don't know how recent) they sent two young brothers from Bethel to university to be qualified as lawyers. My thoughts on the matter: The R&F should not pursue Higher Education for themselves or their children. A different set of standards applies to Bethel.
