Christ's 'silence' on slavery.
by tec inone of the accusations against christ that some people make to me from time to time is that christ never spoke out against slavery, and so he must condone it.. i would submit that slavery (the forcible enslaving of your fellow man)... is not the root problem.
it is merely a symptom of the root problem.
christ came to deal with the root.

Tammy, I with you here, but let’s leave love out of the equation. What was the purpose of Jesus coming to earth first time round? Jesus was not a social reformer. He did not involve himself with the politics of the day. The fact that he used slavery in his illustrations does not mean he endorsed it. He used every day things to illustrate matters. People of his day could not even imagine a world without slaves, something we take for granted. In fact, slavery was abolished just the other day. 1) He came to do his Father’s will. 2) He came to declare the truth. 3) He came to fulfill prophecy. He will fix all the social problems second time round when he’s the king.

Patterson on the line: Watchtower claims that paying cash bond would cause immediate irreparable harm and hardship

Cedars, unfortunately on every schoolyard is a bully, right you rightly said. And if he puts his sights on you, he/she is determined to make you suffer. Best for your blood pressure is to ignore him. Now you know what King Solomon did during his early years. I'm glad I wasn't in school alongside him.

One of my favorite Bible characters is Ezekiel. He had some interesting things to say on the subject. First of all, it applied to Israelite shepherds, but perhaps the modern day shepherds should take note.
15 I myself shall feed my sheep, and I myself shall make them lie down, is the utterance of the Sovereign Lord Jehovah.
16 The lost one I shall search for, and the dispersed one I shall bring back, and the broken one I shall bandage and the ailing one I shall strengthen, but the fat one and the strong one I shall annihilate. I shall feed that one with judgment. (Eze 34:15-16 NWT)
20 Therefore this is what the Sovereign Lord Jehovah has said to them, Here I am, I myself, and I shall certainly judge between a plump sheep and a lean sheep,
21 for the reason that with flank and with shoulder YOU kept pushing and with YOUR horns YOU kept shoving all the sickened ones until YOU had scattered them to the outside.
22 And I will save my sheep, and they will no longer become something for plunder; and I will judge between a sheep and a sheep. 23 And I will raise up over them one shepherd, and he must feed them, even my servant David. He himself will feed them, and he himself will become their shepherd. (Eze 34:20-23 NWT)

Cedars, thanks for the update. Bottom line is: The Society and its lawyers speak with forked tongue. With theocratic warfare, and all that, they cannot be trusted to speak the truth, especially when under attack.

No, I do think they have a cash flow problem, as Outlaw suggests. In different circumstances, the wealthy brothers might have put up the cash. But these are no ordinary circumstances, and the protection of pedophiles (and the consequences of that) does not go down well, even with indoctrinated R&F. And because of economic hardship and related problems (e.g. discouraging secular study) the contributions are indeed drying up. Was there not a thread of a recent CO visit organized to collect money? And what about bank teller machines at assemblies? We are going to see and hear a lot more of that, mark my words.

Did they just show themselves to be the "evil slave?"
by leaving_quietly inmatt 24:48-50: "but if ever that evil slave should say in his heart, 'my master is delaying,' and should start to beat his fellow slaves and should eat and drink with the confirmed drunkards, the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect and in an hour that he does not know, and will punish him with the greatest severity and will assign him his part with the hypocrites.
there is where [his] weeping and the gnashing of [his] teeth will be.".
notice, the slave only has to say it "in his heart.

By implication, what future is there for those that remain in the Borg? They will be beaten and mistreated.

I know they have become the evil slave in the way they handle the pedophile problem. Only the evil slave will be willing to endanger children in order for him to uphold a fallible (two witness) doctrine, sourced from the Mosaic Law. Last I heard, the Mosaic Law should not be applied to Christians.
