I'm so pissed. My wife went last week, but was sick the first day and missed the whole shunning video series. My sister and her husband went this week, but he had a last minute work issue and they missed the Friday as well. I really wanted them both to see the shunning video in hopes they would get a bit startled by it and maybe nudge them a bit more towards seeing just how insidious the cult is. They're all borderline as it is. Grrrrr. Guess it could also go the other way and they could be moved to up their JW shunning, but I think it would have really rattled them a bit.

Hey Queequeq. Nice to see a familiar face!

Message from Designer Stubble to the former JWR members
by Designer Stubble inmessage from designer stubble to the former jwr members.
first of all i am glad to see that many of you have found your way to this great forum, facilitated by simon.
i am sure that after the dust of the jwr shutdown has settled, you will find this to be a good new home.. i would like to apologize for the sudden closure of jwr.

This thread was/is hard for me to read. I normally run from confrontation and disagreement. But I'm learning as I go through therapy and through my recovery that I need to face my emotions and fears head on and experience them for what they are. So I've decided not to do what my JW instincts tell me which is to run. And that's essentially the only purpose for my additional post here. I want to commend DS for coming here and explaining, and trying to do something to buy the JWR members some time. Sad to hear Rifter doesn't want to entertain any options. I can't understand Rifter's decisions. I'm not in his mind and without hearing from him I can only agree that he's made a mistake in how he handled the shutdown. People expressing their reactions is an important part of grieving their loss, and the blow back shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. Especially when it's coming from a group of people like us who've already been damaged by a harmful cult.

Welcome y'all from JWR - any questions?
by Simon ini just wanted to take a minute to say "hi" and welcome to the site for anyone who's come here from jwr.
i can imagine the site being shut down suddenly was shocking and unsettling for many who relied on it and sometimes you don't realize how much you do rely on something until it is gone.. hopefully you'll see some of the same familiar names appearing and be able to reconnect with people you knew via this site and continue your journey together.
i don't know what the posting policies on jwr were but know it as a moderated site so can't imagine them being hugely different to the ones here.

Thanks for the welcome. And excuse the ignorance here, but is there a short way to refer to this site? E.g. Like JWR?

Yeah, I'm a bit all over the place with my feelings on this. I had enormous respect for Rifter. Not having any explanation as to why he decided to shut down the site so abruptly leaves a lot of unanswered questions. Was there really no reasonable solution? Why couldn't a new owner be identified? Was money a problem? Did we need new admins, moderators? We're users misbehaving? I dunno. What would have been wrong with a gradual phase out over a few months? It definitely has to be more than just a desire to move away from exJW activities. I feel bad for DS who seems to be having to face the music on his own. Anyway, still struggling with this loss.

New to this site, just came over from JWR. My intro post here, I listed a bunch of books/research that I've been through on my awakening trip.
Can totally relate to your existential crisis, and the drinking to deal with it. I turned into a pro drinker - serious pro. Checked myself into an inpatient program recently. Actual met a professional therapist there that has a special interest in existential therapy. Now I'm really interested in it. Got me into reading some stuff from Neitche which was interesting, but I've now picked up a couple books from Viktor Frankl which deal more specifically on existentialism and the meaning of life. Haven't read them yet (just got them) but I think they'll be good.
Anyway, I think what you're going through is completely understandable, and from my own experience potentially very serious. I suggest being proactive about seeking some assistance if you can. If you want to chat more about it, let me know. All the best.

Just to add to what Ladybug Girl had to say as well, I'm more than willing to help contribute towards an archive as well, including whatever time and finances (or limited technical abilities) might be required. I might be personally in a position to go further than others to help, so if DS or others want to reach out to me please feel free to do so.

Yet another JWR refugee. Been active over there for a while now. Was quiet for the last couple months but just starting to 'reactive' myself again. Come from a 4th gen witness background. Woke myself up officially over the last couple years after trying to suppress doubts for the last 15 years. But just couldn't contain them anymore. Has been a rough and rocky road. Awakening led to a serious existential crises. Prior to awakening I was suppressing doubts and self medicating depression and anxiety with alcohol. Finally realized I needed proper help just over a year ago. Just got out of an in-patient treatment program for concurrent disorders a few weeks ago and will be going into an extended program dealing with psychological issues related to your family of origin that lasts about 5 months. Helps a lot with complex trauma related issues. Bottom line, I'm taking this exJW recovery thing in a serious way.
I was a pretty hard core and serious JW until my mid-twenties. Until my first marriage ended in a serious disaster. As I mentioned earlier I was suppressing doubts seriously after that, but tried really hard to beard them for 15 years since. But you just can't force yourself to believe something that just doesn't make sense. Anyway, this is already starting to carry on, so I'll stop it there. Sad that all my details are sitting neatly over on JWR somewhere, but c'est la vie. At least I put some stuff up on google docs. Here's a link to some stuff I put together that's a collection of stuff I read/studied that helped me while I was waking up. Cheers!

Sorry, haven't really been keeping up with the ex-JWR news, but has anyone created an ex-JWR Facebook group by any chance?

Well, just posting here cause I gotta say I'm in shock as well. Loosing JWR feels like loosing an appendage, or a best friend or something. Really don't know what to say honestly. Thanks to all those that kept it a float so long. I know it must have been hard work and can appreciate the need to move on as well. Special thanks to Designer Stubble & Rifter and others I just can't think of right now - you guys are heroes in my book. Whatever your reasons, no judgement on my part. I was away from the site for at least a month or more and definitely felt a changed vibe lately when I came back so I know something was going on. So I guess in hindsight I probably should have seen it coming. Maybe a good thing I was listening to a mindfulness lecture yesterday on the acceptance of impermanence in all things and to find happiness you must also be able to accept the letting go of all things you've come to hold dear. Holy Jebus maybe there is a God out there trying to tell me something (Lol). Anyway, I'm here on J-W.com with the same handle as I was on JWR. May take me a while to get oriented here or on some other sites.
