as Blondie said, by the time I left I knew it was a joke--that is God's spirit knowing anything that was going on at the KH. I did however fear the jws themselves b/c they often take it upon themselves to the the sword of Jah.

FHN i ma so glad you were able to cry. I know it does not reverse anything, but sort of cleanses your soul a bit. I have never read what crying acting does, but it must release some endorphins . Sometimes people go for years after someone death and they cannot cry. I believe it is a bit like being too tired to sleep, one can be in such sorrow they cannot cry. Sometimes ptsd develops this way.
ONLY TIME ENYA
I see your brother.

I have always liked Meat Loaf, the rocker from Dallas. His father used to work on the Dallas PD. He has always had interest in the Kennedy assassination. He wrote a book and one chapter is devoted to it. He says that as a High School kid at the time Kennedy was shot he was actually at Parkland ER when Kennedy was brought in. I have his book, can't recall the name right now, something like "to hell and back" He's only written one so not hard to find.

Try putting on a song that always makes you cry and see if it will help loosen you up. It has worked for me. I listened to Tom T. Hall's " that's how i got to Memphis". It worked, i was able to shed the tears i needed to.
I know it sounds very simple, and it is. I have also gone somewhere I'll be alone and have privacy and just dialogged with the person that i needed to talk with. It can be very therapeutic.

When Disfellowshipping extends outside the KH; shunning that never ends
by Layla33 ini was talking about this the other day to a friend that is an attorney for abused children and we started discussing strange family practices and how they affect children.
it was during that conversation that i remembered something i hadn't thought about in years - when i was 12 years old my step-father and mother tried to practice a form of shunning (disfellowshipping) in the family.
of course it wasn't my mother's idea, it was my neurotic mentally deranged stepfather that decided because my mother and i had disagreed about something in a silly judicial meeting, that i was to be shunned from the family.

Jws used to do what they call personal marking. It is more or less DF'ing. They can decide to mark someone and thereby exclude them. It may not be DF but the effects are the same.
There were always the spiritually weak who were marked and this was supposed to I guess encourage them ?
I have seen this kind of behavior among jws for many years. It is most commonly done to family members. Your family members can be your worst enemies.
also, I have heard people say they did not care if someone was reinstated, they did not have to talk to them or have anything to do with them.
People do personal Df'ing all the time.
I am terribly sorry for what happened to you. That is horrible abuse and indeed your step father was deranged.

What does your congregation do socially now?
by truthseeker inif you're still in or hear about jw social activities through the grapevine, what does your congregation do now socially?.
my hall does absolutely - nothing - with the exception of high school graduations.
i read a few posts about jw socialising in the 70s and 80s and honestly, reading about it is completely foreign to me - i grew up in the 80s and never experienced the "good times" of jwdom.. it seems most people do their own thing.

we once had a group of elder MS + wives who went dancing all the time. Very exclusive club. Went dancing and drank. I always wondered if any infidelity occurred?

Even active witnesses think this is way over the top.....
by yourmomma inthere were gasps after watching this.
i heard the anti college talks at the dc this year, and while many people i know didnt agree with them, this following video stunned many of them.
there are many people on this forum, many have gotten to where they are many different ways.

as several others people have said, that is the same "talk" I heard 35 years + ago. The " going out of business " line has been around a long time. this is so ancient. They ruined all our lives, our kids, now they want to foul up the grandkids lives.
i agree, F*ckers

I'm so sorry FHN. yes life can be so complicated and messy. Funerals amplify all this. I once had to make a decision to not attend a very important family members funeral. It was a hard decision and only I knew the reasons.
I'm Cherokee .I use the Sacred Path Cards and Medicine cards a lot. they can often help to bring some clarity to my thoughts. I find it a lot more comforting than traditional religion.
I tell my children to "spit it out" . that is often the best thing one can do. If you can't "spit it out' with a family member, perhaps a friend.
Please take very good care of yourself.
