  Being new we invited 30 brothers over for dinner. We got an invite once?!

  whats the deal.

  i moved to a new congregation and wanted to slowly each weekend invite all the brothers over to get to know them.

  the drill was we had a barbie with red wine and music.

  An elder once told me that the Jw's did not exist to provide a social network - the KH was strictly a place to meet& serve Jehovah. He deplored the use of friendship to bring new ones in. That is a old hard line JW for sure but it does illustrate a common attitude. However if you are in the right circles you can be invited to endless parties.

  Depression or Recession?

  i went to jobs and family resources yesterday.

  the man i talked to said the country is not in a recession like the president said on december 1st.

  he said we are in a depression, much like 1947. he said things will continue like this for decades.

  I vividly recall the Carter years and the 80's. ( who could forget the gas lines?) My hubby was unemployed for 1.5 yrs and we lost a house. He had three jobs, one being a school crossing guard , putting out signs for houses and mowing lawns.I spent my time looking for assistance to pay the light bill and food. In this area they were almost nonexistent at that time. I recall a thrift store that had food. You had to go in and beg for help. They had threats from the Bible all over the walls. Our kids were out mowing lawns and we hustled. We survived. I do not look forward to this but I know we have the strength to survive. My father lived through the Great Depression and it left a mark on him. He was always trying pay off all the bills and " hunker down" as he would say and hope to survive. To "hunker down" means you pay your bills and that is it. You eat beans and TV is your entertainment. You wear used clothes and seldom see a doctor. You did not throw away anything. If you have ever read "The Grapes of Wrath" it will give you an idea of the depression. My father and grandparents lived through that. There are so many things we feel we must have,we have a right to. We will just have to adjust our priorities.

  Goodbye to JWD ... hello to JWN !

  as i announced some time ago, jwd as it is will not continue .... ... but .... it's clear from people's comments that they do like the site and many would like it or something else like it to continue.. one issue was the forum software that was self-developed and not really in a good state to hand-over to anyone but i've been working on that and can now reveal the first release of what will probably be called jwn (son of jwd):.

  it is still work-in-progress so not all features are enabled yet but it will allow you to browse the site in a similar way to this one and it is pointing at the same database (although because of the way the caching works, new posts made on this site won't appear immediately).

  my son and his family. they arrived yesterday. They had 24 hours notice to evacuate. They are right in the "bull eye". they are terrified and devastated.. It is a rental home but the contents of the home will most likely we washed away. It is really hard to see almost everything you own washed away. they were able to get whatever they could in 2 czars and leave.

  well I don't like Fundy's much either but i listened to her entire speech and what is wrong with it? She is asking them to pray for God's will to be done., pray for the soldiers, pray for America. What is wrong with that? at least she is not saying "God Damn America" ( Jeremiah wight)

  She does not seem fanatical, she's really upbeat. I like her. I see no harm here. She has an upbeat agenda, praying for Alaska and America. I pray for America too. How does she hurt you personally by her prayers? She downgrades no one, a pleasant experience .

  Let them take her on- after Jeremiah Wright - they got nothing.

  a famous oncologist doctor simoncini has been ostracised by the medical proffesion.

  he claims cancer is a fungus/tumor and he has cured many people by flushing tumors with ordinary kitchen baking soda........how can this work you ask?

  I don't mind reading these things b/c maybe someone will stumble upon a cure one day. It will probably be a unintended side effect of a drug. I have the luxury of saying that b/c I don't have cancer and I am not spending my last dime trying these false hopes. also, some of these "cures" have been around a long time and they recycle them. the grape cure is one of them.

  I'm on it now. It feels a tad odd, I'm one who never liked the firefox "look", I was just too used to IE. However, this is very fast and once I have time to customize it I'm sure it will be great. I already have one problem- I can't find the spell checker. It is nowhere that I can see. They say it is built in I see nothing.

  I met with a surgeon yesterday about blood - wow

  i was asked by a friend to go with an older sister yesterday to the hospital to talk with her surgeon about her upcoming major surgery.

  hospital liason committee told her to watch the society's video on blood, and if she can't get her surgeon to agree on non-blood treatments, then they will help.

  it was the weirdest experience of my life.

  This sister sounds so typical of jws's who don't know a thing about medicine and should listen to the surgeon. Very few docs are just waiting for their patients to go under anesthesia so they can infuse a few units of blood in them against their wishes. they don't just "top you of" you know.

  It is a wonder jws can find anyone to do surgery on them. How insulting to the doc that a graduate of the Awake school of Medicine challenges him on something he does everyday.
