a while back I asked:
Whats so important about the sign then?
did i miss your answer?
my question is the context that that of all "saved" humans only some see the sign, as you mention.
i've just read an intersting article on the flood to do with dates and whether is was truly global or a regional flood.. http://www.commentarypress.com/essay-flood.html.
my father used to be an elder for many years and the flood was one of the things that made him walk away not just from the jw but also belief in the bible.
he was hung up on issues like the flood taking place about 3500 bc and how that fit in with the pyramids.. i don't know much about egyptian history or the ages of the big pyramids, but his reasoning was if the flood wiped out every human on earth except noah etc then at 3500 bc there were only 8 people on earth.

after all the events of 2004 regarding the botchtower, what do you think will happen next year?.
i can think of a few events.. first of all, 70 years will have passed since rutherflawed took on the name "jehovah's witnesses" - a gross misapplication of that scripture in isaiah.. all the new man presses will be operational - already, the wt have increased their watchtower circulation.. "godly obedience" district convention next summer - we all know what that will be about; and don't forget the layman's km article on how to book a hotel, and not just any hotel at that either.. a new book to replace "organised to accomplish our ministry".
bro barr of the governing body turns 100 (i think this is correct).
more 'older' elders will show they are getting tired, i have seen many that look depressed or "lost"
it makes you wonder when exactly the governing body and their lawyers decided to change the "generation of 1914" doctrine.
the first quotation below is from the 1992 wt and the second one from the 1993 brochure the purpose of life, just two lousy years before they imfamously dropped the whole idea:
*** w92 5/1 p. 7 the 1914 generation?why significant?
Most people have short memory AND no intention to resgin their private club just becasue the directors rescheduled the game."millions will never die"
has anyone else observed or even taken part in the strange phenomenon of defending something even when you have doubts about it?
it's not a new phenomenon; i think freud called it "reactive formation".
i notice every now and then, jws and/or their supporters tentatively surface on the jw discussion board.
There are several stages from illness to recovery, some stages last longer and some people go through all stages faster, depending on immune system and kind of illness. Some people never recover no matter what and die.... doctors just wait and hope but never blame the sick one.

unfettered,
Your post below belong on this thread
"positive about jw"

I very much value some of the education I received in the organization. Not everything the society teaches is wrong. I have a very lucrative salary in part because of the experience and skills I received giving public talks and pioneering, as well as providing an excellent environment in which to learn a foreign language.
there has been a bit of stick about the negative comments about islam on this board, so i thought i would start a positive thread.. towards the end of the 90s, i lived for a year in an asian country with a population of over 100 million muslims.
all muslims i came across were honest, decent people.. a couple of years back, i went to work in iran for a couple of weeks.
as a result i had a couple days off at the weekend, which also happened to coincide with a public holiday.
hitman?
when they think convinient (instead of war) they try hitman, but is much harder in recent times, since J. F. Kennedy.

mary is blaming people at the "top" in the islamic culture, but then i compared with similar actions by top leader in western countries

like printing, war is an industry (part of the economy) with its chain of suppliers and demand

still,
you ask
and your point is?
my reply is more in response to
I think you would have come away with a bit different view of Iran, had you been a woman.
it's their religion and culture that I find extremely offensive. Like the WTS, it's the people at the top who control everyone else's lives who are to blame
than anything else.
Can you see the relantionship now?
do you have anything to say now?

jw got excited due to the oil embargo near 1975, nothing happened.
After the 1975 fiasco gb knew something didn't add up.
BUT the GB waited 20 years to bring new light 1975-1995. Hoping during the mean time something real big to happen
The new light was presented to a brand new generation of jw who did not experienced the 1975 fasco and most likely never heard of it.
Their older jw parents likely did not say anything, did not complaint so their teenage and young adults children would not walk out and become part of the "world".
