The Watchtower: Sincere Old Men or Deliberate Deceivers?

when a witness encounters injustices engendered by the watchtower and considers them.

with clarity of mind, he is likely to suppose that , at worst, the old men who run things.

are sincere but misguided.

remember what Ray said in CoC... more than two (2) decades ago three (3) GB members officially proposed ( to the twelve (?) members gb board) to change 1914 for 1957 as the year when the SIGN became visible.

THAT was the only recommendation after being assigned to come up with an alternative or solution to the 1914 and 1975 fiasco

The SIGN being space "vehicles" staring to appear during 1957 with the first satellite (*sputnik"?), the proposal was rejected (silly?)

So you see they are sincere, only problem is they haven't come up with a good number and better signs, after being back on the drawing board for decades.

During the mean time here is their reply to any complaint "wait on J, ""don't be presumptuous", those who "run ahead" are showing who they really are

Are they missing missing freddy?..., but Freddy (th oracle) was the one needing some correction, new light.. .

The Global Flood

i've just read an intersting article on the flood to do with dates and whether is was truly global or a regional flood.. http://www.commentarypress.com/essay-flood.html.

my father used to be an elder for many years and the flood was one of the things that made him walk away not just from the jw but also belief in the bible.

he was hung up on issues like the flood taking place about 3500 bc and how that fit in with the pyramids.. i don't know much about egyptian history or the ages of the big pyramids, but his reasoning was if the flood wiped out every human on earth except noah etc then at 3500 bc there were only 8 people on earth.

Your answer: I believe this "sign" will help some people to put their faith in Christ who are now having a hard time doing so, due to being told that there is no scientific evidence that the God of the Bible exists.

Let me repeat what i said before using different words.Focus on the idea not the words.

1.- According to you the "sign" is a solution to a problem.

2.- The solution was designed, implemented long before the problem existed.

To the above basic statements you answered: " Not really, the timing seems about right to me."

Your answer is not an appropiate answer. Pleas elaborate around the two (2) basic statements.

They all know they are "victims of victims, but sincerely want to preserve the org..

On the other hand big wt men do not trust rank and file, they think they are too "weak" and will not resist temptations if they watch tv, go to college, surf the internet etc.

I was surprised bethelites were allowed to received newspapers. then I was surprised that tv sets were allowed at Bethel homes.

It is all about human nature, you me comeup with a better example but,

assuming a woman find out after her children are all teenagers, that their father is not really their father, probably there is more than one father, as she was drunk ('spirit' directed) every time she became pregnant with a new child (religious idea)

Will she wait until her children became adults, so it wont hurt as much and they all leave the house? or will she say nothing and take the secrets to the grave?.

i am not one who will ever bother to waste my time heaping praise on the jw religion as though it were some kind of improvement on society.

i have no qualms in saying that it was, is, and always will be a dangerous religion ?

have seen many XJW's who are complete dysfunctional wrecks due to their experience within the walls of the WTS.

I would say much more depends upon the individual

I agreee with the later, many may have become "dysfunctional wrecks" anyway, jw or no jw.

During the last decade or so i have seen too many jw and nonjw people go "bipolar".... euphemism for crazy, schizophrenic or someone who could not confront reality, for whatever the reason. In the case of jw they can not face their jw reality: no paradaise, no money, hardly making ends meet etc etc

There are many thing i dont regret about jw
learning from jw about cristmas is one of them
The jw were very open about cristmas, going against the "system" require some strenght and that in itself attracted many to the jw org.
It teached me not to accept anything at face value and to question just about anything.
I concluded at early age that anybody and everybody could be wrong. I have benefit all along from such early conclusion, thanks to the jw..
But for some reason I did not question most jw teachings... I did questions some teaching and rules long ago..
I think it was due to lack of references. The "messengers" that passed around some weak messages against jw lacked credibility, in the first place they beleived in cristmas, a celebration that have been proven to be "pagan". Anything I ever read or heard did not refute jw doctrines.
There many other things i consider positive about jw, dont you?.
On the other hand, as Ray Franz says in his books we are not free of blame for accepting unfounded jw teachings, the most we can say is repeat that we have been "victims of victims", but the victim is not always without responsability... but if feels better when the victim can totally blame someone else.

Was that your case?

I assume your great effort in this board is to "help", when someone places a great effort on anything is because it is considered very important.

What's the stimated 'success rate'? mainly outside this board, the result in this board is more or less obvious.

The wide spread inclination to refute the bible based on scientific evidencie is rather a recent 'movement',

so the "help" for such a minority group was supplied before the problem appeared, dont you think?

What kind of help has been supplied for the majority who wonder where is god/jesus when they for no apparent reason confront so many problems, catastrofic "natural" and man made events. The bible, that you beleive is inspired thanks to the "help", does not seem to provide a clear answer even to those who beleive in it. Do you know the 'answer'.?

I am not too concerned in refuting the 400 as such.

what was the worse thing while you where in the "truth".

for me, it felt that everynight was a meeting night, the relentlous pressure getting to the meetings.. for my husband, apart from the meetings, it was the never ending assiments.

for my teenage son, it must have been field service.

THE GENERATION OF 1914

it makes you wonder when exactly the governing body and their lawyers decided to change the "generation of 1914" doctrine.

the first quotation below is from the 1992 wt and the second one from the 1993 brochure the purpose of life, just two lousy years before they imfamously dropped the whole idea:

I mentioned this to GB member Albert Schroeder, and he confirmed that, indeed, lots more changes were forthcoming. He wouldn't be specific

As we know, he wanted to change the doctrine long before it became such an embarrassment to the WT, as we learn from Ray's account on CoC.

Around 1980 at a large convention Albert Schroeder admitted or implied that the wt made mistakes fixing dates, he mentioned some specific dates such as 1925 and 1975 and then concluded saying well "we have no more dates"... it was the closest to an apology i ever heard..

BTW

Albert Schroeder was allowed to raise a boy while at Brooklyn, dont know if the child lived within WT facilites, but the boy later worked there, became officially part of the family in brooklyn.

The gossip was the the GB needed a member with experience raising a family.
