i am fairly new here.

i came across this site a few years ago and tried to join but i wasn't approved as a member for whatever reason.

well, recently i came across this site again and decided to reapply to be a member and it was approved.

Great idea Okage. However I like to post here because the key words trigger google alerts, beef up JWN SEO that bring new members onto JWN who then wander around on subjects that might intrest them. Kind of like the old potato chip commercials "I bet you can't eat just one"! .

Different subjects click with different folks.

Blood transfusions and JW children in a household with a non-believer parent

just recently my daughter ask for permission to get baptized.

not knowing the mess that my wife's religion is, i consented.

after a lot of research, i now regret my decision.

Did you just give her permission, or has she actually already gotten baptised?

Why not reason with her that it is wise to examine ones beliefs and she should read JW.facts, JW. Survey, and Barbra Anderson's "Watchtower documents" ? Tell her the BIBLE speaks highly about the Boreans "who carefully EXAMINED what they learned". Make reading and Studying those sites a pre-condition of her getting baptised.

Tell her you are the HEAD of the House according to the bible and Jehovah's Witnesses and she and her mother are supposed to be submisive and respectful or your concerns as her father. This is because you LOVE her.

DO NOT go head to head or become confrontational. Be kind, reasonable but firm. You don't want to be labeled "an opposer".

Teach her to use her brains..she will soon be 18 and JWs are not the only sandtrap she will face in life. (sweet talking boys are out there too!)

so, my mother in law who is still active went out in service with the group that had the co visit and came back with some very interesting news.

first off, she knows that we are fading and is ok with it and has some doubts herself.

anyhow, she said that the co went off track during the meeting before service and mentioned how we are now allowed to receive up to 33% of blood in a transfusion.

I think many JWs are getting confused and are looking for "outs". I noticed old BLANK DPAs at some long time JW relatives homes recently, when I asked about it they said "we hadn't gotten around to it" (months later).

A local elders wife had a whole blood transfusion and nothing happened to her. She simply claimed she was "medicated"and didn't know. The Doctor claimed he was given a "go ahead by a family member"..the Elder said he didn't know which Witness kid said yes and he had gone home from the Hospital when it happened and didn't have money to sue the Hospital.. It was all very well staged.

Case closed. Happy elder, happy(alive) wife, happy doctor.

Are Jehovah's Witnesses a hierarchical religion? And does it matter?

inspired by the illustration in the april 15th watchtower (above), i thought it would be worthwhile to further explore this facet of the society for two reasons.... because the society has spent decades criticizing the catholic church for being hierarchical, andbecause the society has recently become more open about its hierarchical nature than ever before.below is a diagram i have prepared which shows the organizational similarities that watch tower society now shares with the catholic church.... .

until recently, the governing body could place the "faithful slave" above it at the top of the pyramid, but as of october 5th this fuzzy doctrine was scrapped - thus removing the final distinguishing factor between the governing body and popedom.. as always, i would be interested in your thoughts.... .

Yes. Does it matter? Yes. Christ commanded his followers to all be "brothers" with HIM as the head. So I guess from looking at this chart Jehovah's Witnesses would no longer be "Christian". hummmmmmm

Growing up as a kid in JW land (50s+60s)a big deal was made about avoiding "being a follower of men". Names were not used in books nor were the top members of the society given much publicity. Birthdays were considered "Creature worship". The Catholics were denouced for "Popery" by old time JWs. My, my, how things have changed.
