Yes DM6, This stuff is real. People are people. Everyone has hormones and drives. It is like the Wizard of OZ though..people are looking for the great OZ, but behind the curtain are just some frail humans. The evil part is when they pretend they are devine and want to bump Jesus to be your mediator.

When I was at Bethel they had two libraries. I had access to the library used by the writting staff. My second or third time there I was just browsing the shelves when I came across all these old Witchcraft books. A LOT of them. Like HOW TO DO IT STUFF with some pentagrams and goats heads on the covers. For me it was like WHAAAAAAAT??? Dan Sydlick and another Brother looked up from the tables and watched me looking at them. I was shocked, growing up JW we would have burned those things...here they were at headquarters...
Dan must have seen my expression so he asks some 'if there was a problem". And he said something to the effect of "you can't write about something unless you read about it."........

Going to start a new religion

along with all the child molesters, wife beaters, megalomaniacs, etc.. i know jehovah's behavior in the old testament was questionable at best, but at the same time...what happens when you want to save someone that is just hell bent on snorting cyanide?

Mocha Java, Wow.. I remember your post on the first time this thread went up. How horrific. No down or quiet time to lick your wounds. The intense sense of betrayal by your husband and the Governing body. So sorry.
One of the WEIRDEST things I could not talk about before at Bethel or after because of the 2-3 Witnesses to an "Incident" rule. One sunny afternoon I was off work due to having to work a night shift my first few months. I had heard some weights were on the roof of the Squib building, so I went up on the roof to check it out. The roof was empty except for one old guy(70s) in a speedo getting a tan. (eeww..old dude in speedo- I was about 20 ). That old guy was one of the Governing body. No names here..(but his nick name was Bam Bam).
He "perks up" and starts a conversation..are you new? Where are YOU from ? I said "San Francisco"..whooo I think backgroud music must have suddenly started ("The Look of Love")..he gets all moony eyed and asks me to spread suntan oil all over his back side! Since I grew up in S.F. I was used to old "Queens" so I said "Sorry..I got to go" and simply left. Wow-WTF. Latter some whispered about not going up on the roof alone.. it took years for more stories to "comeout". Eventually he was quietly invited to leave N.Y.C. and the G.B. and serve in a less sunny location..but in "good standing". :)

JWs Depression and Suicide
by 00DAD insince jehovah's witnesses supposedly have "the truth" and are part of god's visible organization living in a "spiritual paradise" you would naturally expect that they should be the happiest people on earth!

Having been treated for a bout of clinical depression in the past, and having family and friends treated for it (including speaking with some mental health people), I believe much can be traced to Watchtower teachings and culture. Currently my wife is going through some talk therapy for leaving the Borg. The Watchtower Society has been ANTI mental health treatment for years. Some minor issues that might get "nipped in the bud" get worse when untreated. JWs are conditioned to feel unworthy from childhood. Seems like 1/2 of most halls are on anti-depression meds. I know a LOT of ex bethelites, pioneers, elders, C.O. wives, and missionaries suffering from clinical depression.
My past PERSONAL belief for WHY all the depression is that no matter WHAT you do for WBTS, it was NEVER ENOUGH (and the mistaken view they represent Jehovah). Pioneering..tsk..tsk..someone is doing that in an iron lung or in a wheelchair. Working at Bethel 40-50 hrs a week..tsk...tsk some bethelite is aux. pioneering as well...or volunteered to serve in an AFRICAN branch. Missionary...tsk..tsk other missionaries travel in dugout canoes and battle crocs!! Make ALL the meetings..you didn't answer enough or were LATE! LOL!! Yet the Governing Body sit on their asses. NEVER COOK, SHOP, CLEAN, DO LAUNDRY, PAY BILLS, RAISE KIDS, GO TO SCHOOL, MOW THE LAWN, FIX THINGS, WORRY ABOUT BILLS, CARE FOR ELDERLY PARENTS. Most rarely go in service. They love to "Bind heavy loads" on the sheep.
"The beatings will continue until morale improves" SHOULD be the YEAR TEXT behind the podium. Staying up late for meetings, up early on weekends, travel time, meeting time, Assembly expenses, congregation needs..keeping the house PERFECT..the CAR..PERFECT...the kids..PERFECT...the clothes...PERFECT......people just get WORN out, sleep deprived, beat down and discouraged. The recommended "theocratic activities schedule adds about 15 extra hours to most publishers 40-50 hr work week. The frazzled publishers see assembly parts every Sat. with perfect families eating PERFECT homebaked cookies while discussing the dailey text PERFECTLY. What a CROC. No wonder so many publishers feel "Less than, and unworthy". They feel forced to EARN salvation. I also think most downhearted JWs have deep doubts about the Governing body. They say" the end is near", yet make 10 year realestate and financial plans. They say they are "spirit directed", but flip flop yearly. They say they are non-profit but store-up billions.
Jesus said his "yoke would be lighter" than the Jews..heck.. being an orthodox Jew would be a breeze compared to being one of Jehovah's Witnesses. (Grow a beard, no pork, no service, and one meeting a week. For women NO COOKING OR CLEANING ON THE SABBATH !).
Yes I believe "break-downs" are much more common among JWs, and very common in Bethel and Missionary homes compared to the general public.

EXWHYZEE- was Dan wearing a speedo? LOL!!!! Now Chitty in a Speedo in his 70s on the roof...THAT.. could blind you..and lead to nightmares!!
Dan, lived a few doors away at first. We shared a bathroom.Sharing a bathroom with a GB member. Weird. Dan, was worse than any house keeper. Before locks he would just wander into my room and look around and start up a conversation. No knocking. STRANGE.

Faithful and discreet, maybe, but never humble
by dgp ini was re-reading another thread (http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/experiences/218101/2/governing-body-pics) and i just couldn't help thinking that the faithful and discreet slaves may perhaps be faithful and discreet, but they are certainly not humble.
they let other witnesses treat them like special holy men.
not that i would have expected anything different from them, but i feel they should at least act otherwise for appearances' sake.. would it be fit for the members of the board of directors of any big company (enron, say) feel they have a special quality to them, one that puts them above all other humans, just because they approve things with two thirds of the vote?.

WT Society Appoints Elders/MS Based on " Functions " Performed - not ....

shown by men considered for elder or ms positions.
qualities or true positive character traits are not that important to the wt society in appointments of these men in jw congregations.. no, the real " qualifications " that a jw man needs to exhibit is being able to report 10 hours a month in knocking on people's doors offering wt and awake magazines !

God punished David for doing a census, but the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society eagerly adopted timeslips and the honor system of filling them out. This has created a problem with anyone..including Sociopaths and child molestors, adopting "THEOCRATIC STRATEGY" to rise to positions of leadership among Jehovah's Witnesses. All the way up the ladder to the Governing Body.
I know of one undercover FBI agent(investigating WTBs), one bigamist, two Drug Dealers, and two serial Child Molesters who simply played "the time card & brown nose game" and were re-appointed in congregation after congregation. Read the public documented story of Henderson in California (silent lambs). He became the Red Bluff CA. Presiding overseer despite a previous removal for CHILD MOLESTING, and a reputation for drinking and a foul mouth. It wasn't stopped till he was convicted in court. HOLY SPIRIT...I think not. The two drug dealers I know of personally made Elder in their mid 20s to snag "hot sisters". Of course they had no problem lying!! Heck they sold DRUGS!!
All the while some smart, devout, Jehovah' Witnesses meticulously counting only 5 hours service were passed over...........

I think the answer is YES. In almost any congregation of JEHOVAH'S Witnesses, if the CHURCH LADIES (male and female)set a fire under the ELDERS BUTTS stirr up s.... and GOSSIP about just about ANYTHING a "investigation" can begin about something that "Bothers the CONSCIENCE OF THE CONGREGATION" (Whatever THAT is.. "Pink highlighter, pink shirts, cowboy boots, 2 door cars, sideburns, panty hose etc.?? ).
If you have lots of Church Ladies & men, and elders with no testicles ( to tell them to shut up and stop gossiping) you are in trouble.
A brother who was an undercover cop asked me about this and guns. I asked him: how he could "bother anyone's conscience" if he was undercover?
