"8 Ways To Give Us Your Cash" - the desperation in the latest Watchtower is tangible!
by cedars ini know gayle has already started a thread on the latest november 15th watchtower article that mentions the article on donations, but i thought a thread with a more specific title might be in order just to drive the point home for any lurkers.
i hope gayle doesn't mind!.
i've been banging the drum for a while now about what i view as the obvious signs that the watchtower is in a state of decline.. i have written the following blog articles on the subject.... http://jwsurvey.org/cedars-blog/branch-closures-and-fire-sales-a-growing-trend-for-the-society.

It amazes me how they strip-mine the elderly with the begging for the Regional building commitee's inflated expenses. It works, older ones don't understand the "nice new chairs" are inflated and No bargin.
Once elderly ones ask for return of borrowed funds it is likely the Circuit Overseer will contact them to re-consider. Along with field auditing accounts he is the WTBTS new money man.
Shocking how the simple message delivered by Jesus from rocks, living rooms, and lakeshores has become twisted into money grubbing Religion/Real Estate/Hedgefund Corporations.

Is their a slackening off / lack of zeal in the witnessing work that I am observing or is it just the area I`m living in
by smiddy inlast saturday i was home with my wife, having a leisurely brekky pottering around in the kitchen ,then i noticed her standing still pondering ,what`s up i asked , wife :i thought i heard someone knocking ,i looked out the window to see two middle aged guys exciting my front drive.why didn`t you tell me they were their,i didn`t hear them.
i would have engaged them in conversation , but my wife doesn`t think i ought to,just let it go ,is her motto.. but my point is : i`m not deaf , and i didn`t hear them at the door , we were both in the front room ,my wife only thought she heard someone at the door only to be proved right observing them leaving i was in my pj`s and dressing gown so was not going to pursue them.
we have been living here nearly 5 years now and i can honestly say they have never been on our doorstep more than 4 times if that , i personally have only encountered them 3 times at the most.

The Mrs runs into a few JWs in service from time to time taking breaks at McDonalds. They look so out of place now in California, rumpled "prarie dresses, Polyester ties and badly fit coats in 90Deg + weather. They just hide out in the air conditioning with their plastic "Stoups" bags looking odd...like a far side cartoon.
I find a weathered "tract" one time per year under the mat in places we have lived. Only two times in the last ten years has a JW in "Field service" knocked on our door.
Real business people in our area wear "business casual", nice open shirt, slacks or nice black jeans etc.

Based on some family and friends in Spanish congregations the halls seemed more friendly to me. At least the parties and congregation picnics I attended did. I knew a number of Spanish JWs that had ZERO flack for going to college, unlike the English using the same hall. Perhaps the Elders realized the advantage of education better than pampered Governing Body members.
The missionaries I met from Spanish speaking countries seemed to have a practical bent "whatever works" type of attitude.

Convicted child abuser Gerald Sandusky has looked to his homeowners insurer, State Farm, for defense and indemnity costs related to his criminal trial and a civil lawsuit filed against him.
On July 18, State Farm filed to have a federal judge declare the company has no obligation to defend the former Penn State University assistant football coach in any criminal case, and it does not have any duty to defend or indemnify Sandusky in a civil case naming his charity, The Second Mile, as a defendant.
Sandusky has been found guilty on 45 of 48 counts related to the sexual abuse of boys.
The insurer has been providing a defense to Sandusky for the civil action filed in November 2011—shortly after Sandusky was first charged with sex crimes—involving his charity for children with dysfunctional families, according to court documents filed in U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
State Farm says it issued a “reservation of rights letter” to Sandusky, which informs a policyholder that an insurer may eventually deny coverage for all or part of the claim.
According to court documents, State Farm began insuring the Sandusky home in State College, Pa. in April 1985. It is primarily a property coverage policy with limited personal liability coverage applying only to bodily injury caused by an occurrence.
The policy “excludes coverage for bodily injury that is intentionally caused by the policyholder” and it does not cover injury due to “willful and malicious acts of the policyholder.”
Penn State and its primary General Liability insurer, Pennsylvania Manufacturer’s Association Insurance Co. (PMA), have filed lawsuits against each other over legal expenses.PMA says it has no duty to defend the school.
Penn State and United Educators—reportedly the writer of the university’s Educators Legal Liability coverage—are currently not waged in litigation. The insurer may pay the school to take care of certain covered aspects of the policy, but it is doubtful the insurer will be picking up any of the costs related to settlements of civil lawsuits.
Shortly after Sandusky was convicted, Penn State asked victims to participate in a program to resolve Sandusky-related claims against the school.
The funds will likely come from the school’s captive insurer, Nittany Insurance.
Yesterday the NCAA fined the Penn State University $60 million and imposed a four-year postseason ban on its football program while reducing the number of scholarships it can issue. The association also stripped former head coach Joe Paterno of all wins from 1998 to 2011.
An independent investigation by a firm led by Louis Freeh, former director of the FBI, concluded that “in order to avoid the consequences of bad publicity, the most powerful leaders at Penn State University (including Paterno) repeatedly concealed critical facts relating to Sandusky’s child abuse from the authorities, Board of Trustees, Penn State community and the public.”

Inside the New-Old Bossert Hotel, Former Home to Dodgers and Jehovahs Witnesses
By Matt Chaban 8/13 3:24pm
Share this:
For the past few months, work has been progressing on the Hotel Bossert, once known as Brooklyn’s Waldorf-Astoria. It was where many Dodgers greats used to live, and they famously took the trolley from Brooklyn Heights to Ebbets Field, when that sort of thing was still possible.
For decades, the Bossert has served as a hostel for Jehovah’s Witnesses stopping off at the global headquarters here, but as they are moving upstate and getting rid of all their property, developer David Bistricer stepped forward in May to turn the Bossert back into a boutique that still bears the same name it has for nearly a century.
He recently said that the hotel would not be under the banner of any national chains, and he is partnering with the mysterious Joseph Chetrit and the guys behind King & Grove, all of whom are working on the controversial conversion of the Hotel Chelsea.
The designer behind all this is none other than Gene Kaudman, also hard at work on the Chelsea, who has designed dozens of hotels around the city in recent years, mostly for those name-brand outlets Mr. Bistricer now eschews. Mr. Kaufman will be lucky on this project, considering the Witnesses, famous for the meticulous upkeep of all of their properties, have left the architect with an immaculate lobby, which renderings show will be little changed.
Upstairs, the story is different, with the number of rooms rising from 224 now to 300 suites when the renovations are completed. No idea what those will look like, but there has been talk of a rooftop bar overlooking the Heights, the harbor and the Manhattan skyline, which ought to be something.
“The Hotel Bossert is an exceptional building and one that should be open to welcome guests from across the country and around the world,” Mr. Kaufman said in a release about the renovations. “Brooklyn has not only seen a residential explosion but thanks to a cultural coming of age the borough has also become a tourist destination yet it remains underserved by hotels.”
With the boom in Brooklyn hotels, especially in one of the borough’s poshest redoubts, this ought to be a perfect fit.

What Watchtower Got Wrong with Their Child Molestation Policy
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inin the style of stephen lett, i'm trying to come up with an exhaustive, enumerated list (without his crazy eyebrows, goofy facial expressions, and nutty voice).
what watchtower has gotten wrong isn't just their 2 witness rule.
it goes much deeper into other failures of jw dogma that has allowed this injustice and others to flourish in their organization.

A little example of how severely the contributions for the Society are drying up
by sir82 injust a little tidbit from the congregation i attend..... the congregation has approximately 120 publishers.. well over 1000 magazines per month are picked up, not to mention all the books, brochures, and tracts that are picked up.. there was a "local needs" part on the service meeting recently, asking for more contributions.. it seems our congregation has averaged just about $300 per month contributions to the "worldwide work" over the past year.. .
assuming 1500 magazines / month, that's just 20 cents per magazine - and that completely ignores all other literature that is picked up.. the last price the magazines had, 20+ years ago, was 25 cents per issue.
with inflation that would have been about 50 cents each now.. just another sign of how severely the contriutions to the society are drying up..... .

Billy...don't forget.... "Simplification"......
In my area the Circuits are being enlarged by about 30+ %. Fewer C.O.s. The last few visits he spent more time ..AUDITING the accounts than asking about the spiritual well being of the friends. Every multinational has to have FIELD AUDITORS, so they are just an needed revenue producing expense...they also fund raise...... they visit the elderly who have asked for return of funds loaned to WTBTS and convince them they can live "more simply" for the benefit of the Borg.
One Billion is simply the Brooklyn Real Estate. Think of all the assembly halls, Bethels, Farms, branches, and Kingdom halls around the world.
